Didn't think it would make much of a difference, but it really does. It looks so much better. Also helps with the fact that some coin bags are really bright when next to a light source.
I haven't done any mods in YEARS, but just picked up the Anniversary Edition yesterday for the new content. Maybe I'll make some more niche retextures for other overlooked game assets. So glad to see people still enjoying things I made for such a long time. :)
To be fair, those would've been hide, not leather. There's a big difference. That's why they're orange-ish in the first place. You have to tan hide to make it into the tough material we know as leather. Hide without tanning is a softer, brighter material. That's why belts aren't made of hide.
I'm actually a hunter, and grew up beside a farm where cows are butchered, so I know a thing or 2 about animal hides and tanning. Un-treated hide is NOT orange. Nor is it soft. It is hard and white (At least the hide of anything that has fur is white.). It is called "rawhide", and a quick google image search will show you a bazillion examples. You can then process the hide via scraping, boiling and "working", which results in a white, smooth hide that is soft, but hasn't been "tanned" with bark tannins from trees. Actual "tanning" is a chemical process using boiled-down tree bark. You soak the raw hides in the bark-infused water to tan them, which preserves and toughens the hide and results in leather. "Hides" are animal skins which have not been tanned. "Leather" is animal skin which has been tanned.
So anyway...if these pouches were indeed hide, they would NOT be bright orange, but white or off-white. They therefore aren't hide, but leather, and yes, leather CAN be almost orange. However, that is very unusual outside of modern chemical processes and fake leather. You just didn't see that at all in the pre-industrial world, and Skyrim hasn't exactly gone through an industrial revolution unless you count the Dwemer, who are now gone...
Yea I just always assumed it was orange cloth. It wasn't until seeing this mod and viewing the before pictures that I realized they were indeed leather (allegedly).
It's a simple color tweak of the vanilla texture, then a pass with a very good bump map program, and a few tricks with the alpha channel to make it look just right. So whatever res. the vanilla game texture is I guess. I don't know how to make them higher res., actually. If I knew how I would have done so, haha.
