About this mod

They said it couldn't be done. But it can. Have you ever hated how your character instantly changes directions when in 3rd person and walking? Well hate no more! This bad boy works for 1.5.x and 1.6.x (you better believe it).

UPDATE: Works with 1.6.640!

Rejoice! The Return of 3rd Person Walk Fix!

If you haven't tried out the original brilliant little mod, you can find a link to it here. Oh but wait, you can't run it because you're on AE? Well fear not weary traveler! Not only does this mod (probably) work with all versions of 1.5.x (I only tested with 1.5.97), it works for AE!

What does this do?

This mod removes the jerky directional changes when playing Mouse & Keyboard and walking in third person mode. Once you've installed this mod it's quite noticeable when it isn't active.

Installation

While this is an "animation" mod, this is written entirely in SKSE, so there are no ESP files, no FNIS, Nemesis, etc. Just install it like you would any other simple SKSE mod. Load order should not matter.

Compatibility

True Directional Movement -- I have True Directional Movement in my load order (and have for many hours), and as far as I can tell it does not have compatibility issues.

Movement Behavior Overhaul - This may have conflicts, but I have not yet verified.

Auto Move - This may have conflicts with auto move. If you have conflicts please let me know.

This mod affects movement change speed when going from running to walking, and affects the turning speed when you're walking in 3rd person. The slowdown from running to walking might be annoying for some people.

There should be no issues when using a gamepad (I have played maybe two hundred hours with this mod on the steam deck and have had no problems).

Overall this is implemented entirely in SKSE so should not interact with any animations and/or behaviors, but once again I am a total dummy, so I could be off base here.

Source Code

This code was derived from the CommonLibSSE example project here. The 1.5.x version was built against this commit of the library.

My source (I might upload a functioning github repo later) is here.

Thanks and Shout Outs

Smooth Camera for posting their source, giving me a great example library doing many complicated things to work from.
TDM for also posting their source.
Ryan for writing the CommonLibSSE (linked in source section) and many other amazing utilities.
The OG 3rd Person Walk Fix for posting their source so I can piggyback off of their ingenuity without having to learn proper reverse engineering techniques.
