Really cool idea. I'll be tracking this mod for my next mage run. Suggestion: You could also add the level of the spells to the name. So for novice, expert etc something like A1, A2, A3
Hmm, it is an interesting idea to add the level of the spell. However, given the fact that most modders use SkyUI (if they don't, they should), then you already have the ability to sort spells by their level.
I could imagine adding numbers to spells that have the exact same name, for example "(D) Fire Bolt", which exists both as an Apprentice and Expert level spell. However, I can't imagine wanting to have to choose between using the Apprentice and Expert version in your "Favorites" menu. Personally, I'd just mark only one of them as a favorite spell.
Also, adding the number in front of the spell school kind of defeats the purpose of the whole sorting system being in an alphabetical order, not numerical.
Thanks for this. I have two questions. Can it be installed on an existing save? And does it indicate the level of a spell tome when you purchase them? You can sort spells by level in SkyUI. You cannot sort spell tomes by level when you buy them.
Apologies for the late reply. I've been occupied by work.
Yes, this mod can be installed on an existing save, since the only thing it alters is the names of spells and tomes. However, keep in mind that any mod you have that alters the spells themselves, like effect, duration, Magicka cost, etc, will need to be place after this one in the load order. Sadly, this also means that the names are not maintained. I'd recommend that you simply forward the names of the spells through SSEEdit.
As for your second question, no, I have not included the level of the spell in the naming, neither in the spells themselves nor their tomes. My reasoning is that there are plenty of other ways to determine the magnitude of the spells, like the cost of tomes, or sorting the spells using SkyUI. Also, at least in my opinion, I can't see the utility in separating spells by level, like Novice, Apprentice, Adept, etc. If I have multiple "(D) Fire Bolt" spells, why not only slot the most powerful one?
Great mod, but I'm personally not a fan of the name changes for the spells, both for this version and Odin.
I've been playing Skyrim for so long, but the new spell names make me have to re-adjust to all of the name changes.
It gets especially confusing when I see stuff like the Ward spells all being named the same, regardless of their strength. It means I'd have to look at something else other than the name to tell me what the heck Ward I happen to be looking for.
Honestly, it's a really great idea for a mod, though, but the name changes are what kills it for me. For now, I'll be removing this from my load order.
TL;DR: Appreciate the responsiveness, great idea for a mod, but absolutely hate all the changes made to the spell names.
Your feedback is much appreciated. The reasoning behind giving all the ward spells the same name is that all of them basically do the same thing, the only difference being that they have different costs and magnitudes, so I figured, at least for myself, that if I want to place a ward spell in my Favorites menu, I'll simply mark the most powerful one and ignore the rest; I can't imagine having to slot multiple ward spells at once, especially since by the time I am able to use more powerful wards, the increased cost is mitigated by perk choices and/or enchantments.
The same logic applies to other spells: if I happen to have multiple "(D) Fire Bolt" spells, I'll simply choose the most powerful version. Also, keep in mind that the names given to each spell should be distinct enough that you won't confuse it with another spell.
In any case, I understand that this naming system might not be to everyone's liking, and that's ok. If someone else comes along with a system that is more to your liking, then there's no harm done if you download theirs instead ^^
P.S. Since I'm also a SkyUI-user, I can easily see which level a spell has. I assume you have it as well?
Which version of Skyrim are you using? Because Survival Mode is available to everyone, regardless of which version they are using, so you ought to have it in your load order. Have you downloaded it from the Creaion Club?
i thought you could use the mod without having to download survival mode hence the no cc version. I am on the version of SE before the anniversary update which is 1.5.97. If its a requirement for the mod then im fine thanks.
Would you also consider making a version without a dependency on "Cutting Room Floor'? I don't use that mod and there probably are others who do not use it as well.
I'm glad that you like it. Don't hesitate to provide feedback in the future! ^^
I'm using moreHUD to display my carry weight and current gold. It also has tons of other features, so I suggest you check it out, and don't forget to endorse the creator if you like their mod.
