You can read books without putting them in your inventory first! Just put them up to your mouth like you're eating them, instead of putting them over your shoulder. You'll know you're in the right spot because you'll feel the haptic vibrations

HI all, know we haven't checked in for a while. Neither of us has been playing skyrim at all lately and so we've kinda fallen out of the modding scene. So at the moment, the mods are presented as is, because we won't likely have the capacity to fix any potential issues. We've been happy to be able to make these mods and be a part of the community for a while, and we may come back to Skyrim at some point, but it's not currently on our radar

I really like this mod. I used the hack to shorten down activation lenght to like 0.4 earlier but that gave me huge issues with things such as the tents from Campfire - couldn't place them since I couldn't reach them, superannoying.

Initially I had issues with getting the mod to actually work when trying to start it through the MCM menu but using the power to activate/deactivate it works very well. Also very useful when I need to turn it off for certain things.

    Thanks!

Lads, just a friendly tip. This mod while active doesn't allow you to activate black books on Solstheim. All you need to do is toggle the feature off before activating it.

Working on a fix so that this isn't necessary. Stay tuned (track the mod if you'd like).

I'd actually like to have option to read books without putting them to inventory and reading it through there.

You can read almost every book by putting it up to your mouth (look for the haptics) and releasing. Like you're eating. This is only about black books on Solstheim, the weird magical ones

Hey, thank you for your awesome mod! Sometimes it's kinda hard to resist to occasionaly pick up a potion with my sword :D  But may i add a suggestion? I think we should still be able to read books before picking em up. When i play in VR, whenever i find a journal or a letter, i read it without taking it in my inventory then throwing it away, but with the mod on i have to pick em up into inventory to read :P

As was said in the comments below, you can read books, journals, and letters by putting them up to your mouth and letting them go when you feel the haptic vibrations.

Found that already, thanks, didn't know about this feature. Btw, i found a minor bug with black books on Solstheim, you might want to check it out if you want.

I can't wait to try this mod. I reduced the interact distance to 0.1 and it made speaking to vendors very difficult as the distance needed was more than what I could reach over the counter.

I haven't tested it yet but your mod may fix this in that I can still interact with doors, vendors etc at a 'reasonable' distance but then be forced to physically pickup loose objects

This will definitely do that for you. I'm also thinking about working on something with the capacity to adjuct activate distance but only for items and leaving the rest the same. It's not a super huge priority for me at this point though, so I can't give you a time-frame.

I just wanted to let you know that this works perfectly so thank you so much for this mod!!!!

I was wondering how to read books without putting them into my bag first but I have read a comment further up and it answered that

Kudos dude, looking forward to your future mods!!

Love this mod! The only issue I have had is I no longer have the option to read a book/letter without adding it to my bag first. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yeah, same here - can books and letters somehow be excluded?

Oh and... one minor nitpick from myself - is it possible to remove the button prompt? The mod is working perfectly, but the game keeps telling me that I can take the stuff by pressing a button... what can I say... I'm easily tricked XD

So two things, I won't be excluding books since you can read the book/letter without  putting it in your bag by putting it up to your mouth like you are eating it and releasing it there. I did try to remove the button prompt, but unfortunately doing that also prevented you from picking up the item using any method, including HIGGS

Hey y'all looks like when you first install the mod or start a new game, you have to go into the MCM, uncheck the box and check it again, after doing that just the once it will work. We will try to push an update soon that doesn't need that step, but in the meantime do that once and then enjoy!

UPDATE: This bug is now fixed in Version 1.1.0. as well as it now works on coinpurses as well. Safe to update mid-save but if you haven't unchecked and checked the option in the MCM yet you will still have to do so. The issue with it not enabling at start will not happen on a new save or new install with this update. Enjoy!

Looks like on first installation or new game you have to untick the box in the mcm and then tick it again and that solves it. I will try to make an update soon that doesn't make you have to do it, but after the untick and tick it should work consistently

Hm.. I tried this yesterday because I love the idea, but I could still pick up items by activating them.

Could the problem be that I'm using the VRIK Index Community Bindings?
Is the functionality of this mod dependant on the "button" or on the "activate item" if that makes sense?

This looks so cool! Two Qs:
How does picking flowers work? Since those are an action and not a HIGGS interaction, figured I would ask. Also, could we get a slider to adjust the distance at which a regular pickup works? That would mean you still have to bend down, but don't have to move things to the backpack, for example.

The way you pick flowers isn't changed at all. Plants aren't treated as in-world items. Can you elaborate more on your suggestion? Are you looking to have to get close to the item but still pick it up in the normal way, without HIGGS?

Yeah, with the regular pickup (without HIGGS), you can reach items that are a full meter or two away. It would be interesting to change our "interact" distance to arm length or whatever we feel is comfortable. My guess is coding this will either be fairly easy or downright impossible, but I have no idea what the code is like haha

So for example, instead of pointing down at a flower and pressing a button, we would need to walk over and reach down to interact with it.

So what you're describing is actually setting in the ini file, I think it's "fActivatePickLength". The complexity comes because it uses the exact same length for every single activator and my concern is that it might cause a problem if some unforseen activator that was necessary was in a place that couldn't be reached from that distance. I'm considering the idea of potentially writing something with scripts to allow for those to be functionally different for different types of activators, but I'm not sure how far down the road that will be. In the meantime, if you don't mind using console commands you should be able to check the length with
getini "fActivatePickLength:Interface"and set it for your current session with
      setini "fActivatePickLength:Interface" XXX.XXXX
Where XXX.XXXX is a decimal number that represents how far away you should be able to activate items.
      or add
      [Interface]
      fActivatePickLength=XXX.XXXX
to your skyrim.ini file in your game folder. (don't include the [Interface] part if that line already exists in your file, just put the second line below it)
Now full disclosure, technically if you run into unexpected trouble you should be able to easily fix it with either using the above setini command to set it back to 180.0000 (the default) if you used the console command, or remove the second line above (and the first if it wasn't already there when you added it) from the ini file, if you added it that way, but
(Standard Disclosure) I will not be responsible by using the two methods above this, if an enexpected issue causes complications in your game.
I hope that if you choose to use these, they help tide you over until I end up being able to get the other mod done, if I end up doing so.
