May I suggest letters from/to wives/husbands, sons/daughters? Something like:
"Dear Papa,
Today I learned how to ride a horse; I fell a couple of times but I never gave up, I kept getting back up like you taught me. I wish you would've seen me Papa. I miss you, but I know you're working hard to provide for us. I hope you can make it for my birthday"

Suppose that doesn't matter, though. It's all about your perception... And that extra bit of gold. As long as you can ignore the morality gamble. ;)
