In the OWL patch are steel armor Outfit lists (OWL_Outfit_Steel_Full, OWL_Outfit_Steel_NoHelmet, OWL_Outfit_Steel_Simple) not included intentionally or not? The iron and other ones are included but not the steel ones
I wouldn't know ... I'm sorry. Haven't touched these files in well over a year. It sounds like an oversight, but I will have to check that myself. Can't give you an ETA. =/
In case anyone else is trying to figure out the Wolf Armor, you need to select the Cathedral Armory options in the original Xavbio texture fomod or you won't get the additional metal textures the patch here points to.
Quick question: because this OWL patch requires the Randomized Special Loot, it makes it difficult/impossible to follow the Bashed Patch best practices from OWL's author. Would it be possible to split the OWL patch into two patches, one for regular OWL leveled lists and another for the Randomized Special Loot, so that they can be used separately?
It would be possible, yes, but it would be a much better solution to drop the Bashed Patch entirely and patch your levelled lists by hand for best results. Unfortunately, using Wrye Bash is still advertised all over the place as an easy way to fix your load order, but there is no such thing as a miracle cure and in order to get the results you want, you need to edit your levelled lists manually anyway. Creating a Bashed Patch is just kind of unnecessary at that point.
Hey, what is your problem with WB patch here ? You can do as usual / follow this article (btw this is not "best practices" by the OWL's author, it's an article written by an OWL user trying to help and share their workflow). When you're about to generate your patch, whether it's from WB / Smash, just exclude the Randomized Special Loot from it and re-activate it afterwards (so probably this patch as well since it has it as a master). Like Phoenix said, you'll have to check the output of any automated Leveled List patcher anyway in xEdit afterwards to make sure you got the expected results / make your own little tweaks. EDIT : and thx Phoenix for the fresh batch of patches :)
The problem is, because this patch makes changes to leveled lists, we want to include it in the Bashed Patch, but it requires Randomized Special Loot, which is recommended to be excluded from the Bashed Patch. Can't do both.
There's another patch here https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/61074 which patches AVL for OWL in a way that doesn't require Randomized Special Loot. Unfortunately, that also means you never get any Randomized Special AVL loot, but it's worth it to me to have a more sane Bash/Smash process.
I didn't realize people still patched their leveled lists by hand! Seems like that would take a very long time. I thought most people these days relied on automated patchers. TIL.
Let me know if you ever change your mind and split out the Randomized Special Loot changes into their own patch! Thanks again.
What you are describing is one of the shortcomings of automated patching. The truth is that automated patchers will probably get you there 70% of the way in 30% of the time. Getting to 100%, to perfect (or as near as you can) requires a lot of manual work which can take a lot of time, particularly when you first start to figure things out.
Of course most people don't want to spend hours and days and weeks working on their modded setup so they settle for 70% which is a decent result for the invested time. I think you're right - the vast majority of people absolutely does rely on automated tools like Wrye Bash (or LOOT for that matter). But they also need to live with the flaws and limitations that a mod setup with no manual work will inevitably have.

also SteelWhiteCuirassAA_AVL [ARMA:FE087B79] seems to be missed in the ISC patch
