When starting a new game, I always found it quite annoying that you are basically forced to start the Dawnguard Questline because if you don't do anything, all your favourite merchants and other innocent NPCs get killed. You have solved this issue for me.
Thank you so much!
I downloaded this mod just so that I can give you an endorsement for that neat console command.
This mod is more practical than "Dawnguard Delayed", especially if you choose "never". Simply, you meet a recruiter at level 9, like in vanilla. However, it is up to you when you are going to visit Fort Dawnguard. You can take all the time that you want and nothing happens in the meantime..Finally, when you are ready, you go there and set things in motion. Really, "never" is the only option you need.
It works for me. No vampire attacks in towns while playing the Dawnguard quest and after. (I set it to level 80) I took out the "When Vampires Attack Mod". I do get attacks with Serana after fast travel or waiting outdooors but I think that's supposed to happen when doing the Dawnguard quest. I do sometimes get the " YOU THERE TRAVELER!" miscellaneous random encounter though. So I'm good with that.
Is it possible to use this to stop vampire attacks after the Dawnguard quest has triggered? I have not started the quest or engaged with any of the NPCs (I spoke to the recruiter but did not accept the invitation to join the Dawnguard) but I have seen a couple of vampire attacks.
I think the answer to my question will be no but I thought I would just check.
I believe I made this during a playthrough after that had already happened and it worked, but I don't remember for sure. It only changes one global variable with no scripts or anything so it's worth a try.
I will give it a go now that I know it won't do any harm. I will post the results here at some point.
Edit- Good so far. I used the console code to change the level and it accepted the change with no complaints! Will need to play for longer to verify that attacks have stopped.
All conditions same as before and yes it has reset to lvl 8.
That other mod you linked to has a file which stops attacks in towns even if you have started Dawnguard. I am going to try that, so unless it is an issue for you don't worry about it.
Ah okay. I haven't really tested how the console command works and didn't know that might reset. I know the download version doesn't, but that Dawnguard Delayed file will work too.
There's already one that delays it until after you defeat Alduin. Here Does that work for you, or were you looking for a specific level? I can look into it if you want level options.
I looked into this anyway because people in the comments there were saying it doesn't work entirely (stops the village attack, but not random world encounters with cultists, and that can also start the quest). I could do this for a variety of points during the main quest or levels. Considering I learned how it works in the comments on that file though, I'd rather work with him on updating that mod if I can contact him.
Yep that's why I made it. I make a bunch of new characters and didn't want to be forced into the Dawnguard questline every time to protect the townspeople.

I wish there was similar mod for "Dragonborn".
