On December 28 2009 the first version of Companion Vilja for Oblivion was released. Today, exactly seven years later, here is the SE-version of Vilja in Skyrim.
It has taken us some time to get her ready for release, mainly for cosmetic reasons; the mod includes many unique npcs with unique faces, and the SE light setting were not treating them kindly. We had especially problems with Vilja's little sister Tindra, who has a completely unique head.
But, now the mod is ready and I hope you will enjoy it.
This add-on will make Vilja more immersive in Solstheim. Requires Vilja in Skyrim and Dragonborn.esm. You'll find the add-on among main files in the files section for this mod.
Please note that you have to be on the Mainland of Skyrim for the add-on to initiate! If you start out in Solstheim, you won't experience any of the changes until you have been back on the Skyrim mainland.
Thanks to all of you, Vilja did the almost impossible.
Vilja was released late in the eveing of 28th of December. Only 72 HOURS!!! after the release, she ended up on a honorable second place in the mod of the month list for december, only a few votes behind the winner. Who would have thought that such a thing would be at all possible? And, had she been released on day earlier, maybe she would even had won? I still haven't fully recovered from that happy surprise, but I sincerely want to thank all of you who voted for her. It's heartwarming to know that so many of you are still enjoying her company after all these years .
MISSING INGREDIENTS LIST at the beginning of Vilja's first quest.
I posted this reply earlier, but it has slided to a previous page, so I'm simply re-posting it as a sticky:
There seems to be a problem with this list (obviously also with the book), however, it's only with the *item*, the quest will proceed normally. I have checked, and I actually did set up this item a bit different than what I then continued to do with other things, so I don't believe there will be any upcoming problems; it's just the item itself that is missing. We will of course eventually fix this up, but as the mod-size is so big and this problem so tiny, we want to wait a little and see if there are other problems that we can sort out the same time. For instance, there seems to be a mod conflict for a limited number of players that have problems with her lightbringing spell, it would be nice if we could do something about this.
So, at the moment, we hope you agree that the inconvenience is so small with having to consol the list that we can wait a little before we make an update.
The list: 2 Taproot 1 Small pearl 3 Slaughterfish scales 2 Mammoth tusks 2 Fly amantia 1 Mudcrab chitin
console if you want the list itself (not necessary): player.additem XX03E7FC 1 (replace the XX with the first two digits that you see when you select Vilja in the console) --------------
FIX FOR CORRUPT FORMLIST
If you for instance remove a mod that includes armor that you have assign to Vilja's wardrobe, her formlists might be corrupted. It has happened in the original Vilja-version and can surely happen in SE, too. But, luckily there is an easy fix for this. It is available in the main section of the downloads, so if you should have unexpected problems with her wardrobe, download it and follow the instructions.
Vilja is really one of the best followers available HOWEVER… I quit using her as she is so obnoxious towards Serana, all her conversations revolve around either dumping Serana, talking smack to her, or just being as catty (read b&@*$) as she can be. Really a pity that she would be so focused on belittling one of Skyrims all time favorite NPC followers. If you don’t use Serana, she’s great, lots of dialogue, decent quest, and of course marriageable, but given the choice between her and Serana it wasn’t even a difficult decision.
Serana started as a rather perfunctory character, but that has changed with the evolution of the Serana Addon Dialogue mod. Vilja was the Queen of mod NPCs at the start of Skyrim.
Emma invented inter-mod dialogue between NPCs in Skyrim. Sometimes she had to make one-sided dialogue because the game voice actors were unavailable. Emma spotted the potential for character jealousy between Vilja and Serana and played up to that. The SDA mod was not even a twinkle in Marty's eye at that time. Now things have changed and SDA is a desirable must-have mod. Using that mod listed above, which silences the Vilja dialogue is a great alternative to players getting all pouty and abandoning Vilja.
SDA isn't my taste. Turning Serana into a waifu is too much of a change. She is a hundreds of years old vampire from a warrior family, not some school girl with a crush on the pc.
You can also not introduce Vilja to Serana to avoid any form of comments and interactions. First run when I introduced Vilja to Serana there are many voiceless interactions. Next run I didn't introduced her to Serana to avoid this problem. Only person with a complete interaction outside the Skyrim NPCs is Inigo.
Don't introduce Vilja to Serana since Vilja interacts with the vanilla version of Serana. Vilja has complete interaction with Inigo but you have to introduce Vilja to Inigo for interaction in the Travelling Together dialogue and there is no problem with Auri.
she tends to bug out Serana extended and Auri; Id keep her if she wasn't so problem educing; i have to reload to an older save because Serana got deleted from the game and Auri's set essential got turned off and she died. when i turned her off everything went back to the norm.
Vilja keeps starting conversations with me saying she has something she’d like to talk to me about, but the convo automatically ends after that line.
does anyone know what might be causing this? Doing some digging, I think she might be trying to give me her horns, but the dialogue isn’t completing for some reason.
I am learning to significantly slow down my play when accompanied by Vilja... for your example, when she says she need to tell you something, I stop, face her, slowly walk towards her then initiate conversation. I believe this is all script based, so the normal follower choices do not appear and you get two options like "go ahead" or "maybe later".
Yeah, the problem is that when I say "go ahead" the conversation just ends.
I want to clarify this is when she is initiating the conversation. Sometimes she says it would be nice to talk and I go and initiate conversation with her, that works no problem, but once in a while she force starts a conversation with you and that's where the problem is.
I just ignored this and kept playing until Vilja had finished telling me about her time in Skyrim (the story of her traveling and meeting Bruse, ending up in Whiterun), and the next time one of these conversations happened, I was able to progress as intended. She gave me her attack horns and since then, I haven't had this problem.
So my advice- either just be patient and wait, it will eventually fix itself if you keep talking to her, or you could possibly use the "Tell me about yourself" dialogue option to buuuuurn through her backstory and trigger the proper horn convo.
A complete list would be helpful. I am opening the mod and looking at Quests in SSEdit. Right now, I have found the third bard chant book, but when I return to Wilbur, he only launches into the "intro" to bard chants and does not recognize that I have the book. One of the things that I noticed while playing with Vilja as a follower is to slow everything down... walk don't run, approach her slowly when she needs to tell you something, and apparently pay attention to her comments when you find quest items. The issue I am experiencing with bard chants, I believe, is when I picked the third book from a radiant-enabled quest dungeon, Vilja did not make a comment. Now I am back in Bard College with a book that I cannot get rid of to advance the quest.
HELP! Vilja suddenly stop responding to most of her dialogue options after I told her to relax. she just freezes whenever I tried to access her inventory and storages or when I told her "Let's go." I cannot dismiss her as the option just yeeted itself out of her dialogue box and no amount of Vilja Summon Spell work either. I tried using Reset Vilja Spell but she just ended up in the void and when I use console command to get to her, she's still being irresponsive too pretty much everything. I do have back up saves but what stopping this from happening again? Also, I do not use any other follower framework, she was behaving just fine in the past until now and I have been using her for quite a while.

So, I'm gonna have to agree with Zanderat and say this is just simply user error.
