I took a look at the freshly released JK's Markarth Outskirts and after some deep thought I decided to create a patch which moves the entrance inside Understone Keep. Look to one of the towers flanking the entrance to Nchuand-Zel. Oh yeah, the house is free there ... for now.

Also, for those using the bard, I recommend including We are The Music Makers which keeps the bard from singing unless asked and only plays music. And not the regular Skyrim fare. This modifies all bards if that is your thing.

100% of all Donation Points go to the Make a Wish Foundation

    Version 2.0 has been uploaded!

    • All changes have been made to improve the function and ambiance of Follower Quarters while trying to stay true to Sunnyemi's vision.
    • Checked and cleaned the NAVMESH to go with the changes made.
    • Updated meshes and textures to SSE/AE shiney new versions.
    • Changed or removed some of the extra wall hanging features.
    • Added more idles and features for your followers to interact with in the main hall. It also makes the main hall look less empty.
    • Changed the lighting. YMMV depending on your ENB and/or Reshade.
    • Added music for some pleasant ambiance.
    • Added a vendor that will buy all your stuff and has 20,000 gold to do it with. He can deal with your stolen items.
    • Changed the dog area (got tired of the "Stupid dog" comments) into a bar with a bartender and goodies to grab.
    • Mod is now a full ESL. If you need  the facegen parts of the two NPC's, I added them in a separate DL.
    • Created an ESP-FE version with a patch for Markarth Outskirts. The patch will not work with the ESL version or V 1.
    • Added a patch which adds a bard in the house for the ESP-FE version.

Let me know if there are any problems.

    I also counted the beds.

45 standard follower beds and 5 Vampire coffins.

It would be cool if each room for a specific follower was decorated in their style, like in the "Legacy of the Dragonborn - Followers Patch".

LOTD crew and modders do a great job with that stuff. For me the decoration is way to subjective. Especially for followers. custom or otherwise. When needed, there are mods out there like Jaxonz Positioner that let us design spaces to suit our tastes.

I do think Sunnyemi did a great job in including each faction into the bedrooms along the hallways. One area for each.

I took a look at Followers Quarters, Markarth Outskirts, JK's Markarth Ourskirts and JK's Skyrim in CK. What a patching nightmare! :)  Who is proposing the entrance change?

In lieu of it being added to an "official patch," I do think I found a location for the Dwarven elevator (which I never thought of, THANKS!) which would work for JK's Markarth outskirts. When the official patch from JK's team comes out it should work for GGUNIT's Markarth Outskirts as well as it is in an aread GG doesn't touch.

Down side, the tower is a little out of the way, but gives a great view! Might have to add some goodies up there.

FYI ... Added a patch that moved the entrance inside Understone Keep. Look to a tower near the entrance to Nchuand-Zel.

      Enjoy!

Thanks for the update to this great (and stunningly underappreciated!!!) mod!

    1) I currently have the last previous version, ESLed 1.0.  It is already purchased, and has quite a few NPCs and stuff in it. Is it safe to update mid save?

    2) I will be installing the mod Markarth Outskirts soon. I see there was a comment earlier that there needed to be an update or patch. Is the latest version now compatible?

    Thanks again!

The safest way would be to remove the items you want to keep. Not 100% sure on the current followers residing there, but I would venture to say they would probably return to where you found them. I did a lot of testing in adding new followers there, sadly none on existing followers when upgrading. Unfortunately I uploaded the ESP version, but will get the ESL on up ASAP.

I am re-visiting creating a patch for Markarth Outskirts and will add it when done; and approval from its author is given. I don't anticipate a problem with that, just need to make sure he is OK with it.

OK, I see that the ESL version is now literally an ESL (before it was an ESP-FE, I think). I also tried to install and ESL flag the 2.0 ESP version with ESPFE Follower - Eslify facegen and voices, but it has a cell and can't be ESLed.

So I think I will have to wait for my next playthrough to update and test v.2.0. I will happily stay on v.1.0 for now. Hopefully by then it will work with Markarth Outskirts and any other outer Markarth mods I may want. It probably WILL work, as it is designed with the smallest footprint possible.

But anyone reading this, I do highly recommend this mod, especially if you are a follower hoarder looking for ESL type mods to save slots. 45 beds and lots of open space!

You can get away with ESPfe-ing it IF ... nothing overwrites or conflicts with the new cell. I already compacted the ESP version, but you might have the blackface bug. One quick fix is to target the NPC in the console and type   setnpcweight 35

FYI ... Added an ESP-FE version with a patch for Markarth Outskirts. The patch will not work with the ESL.

Thanks! My experiment with ESL flagging the ESP version (that I now don't see here) did not go well. I had too much stuff down there. I think ESP-FE mods that include a cell are extra "delicate". So I was assuming I would have to wait for my next play thru.

But now that you have posted an ESP-FE version of your mod that also has the Markarth Outskirts patch, I will try redownloading. Then, as you say, I can just disable the Markarth Outskirts patch until I need it. I will still have the issue with having too many followers and stuff that would disappear and maybe break things, so I may still have to wait to actually use it.

Again, thanks for all your effort!

What a nice place to live. Followers is like family, they deserve good place to hangout. Thanks for your work !

Maybe a suggestion to add bard so the place is not silent and more lively, thanks.

Thanks! I was working on a bard, but got a little frustrated and needed a break. I still plan on adding one, but as a patch to give people an option of not having one.

This is a well done mod. Simple with all you need for your followers. Just too bright for me. Everything is so white I can’t see anything. I don’t use enb or anything like that, so that could be the problem. Any way I can fix that?

Some of the reshade shaders I was using in game made things way to dark (was running a vampire build). Working on changing that and trying to find a nice balance. Will replace the ESL & ESP wit the fixed ones ASAP.

      EDIT:
I started from scratch and changed the lighting, and maybe a few other items.
I am glad you like it, I hope you enjoy the latest version. Sunnyemi had a great idea to create this in LE.

Yes, Thanks to Sunnyemi n you for the great mod idea. The lights are fix now. Than you. One more thing, if it not too much to ask. Npcs now don’t follow me to the work area or the pool/ bath, vampire room. They walk to the other areas except those one. If you could check it out. Thanks again.

Hmm. In testing I did have followers eventually end up pretty much everywhere. It took bringing in 24 followers to really appreciate how much space they have to move around in. They will eventually get in those areas. (took several visits for me to see them actually in the bar area)  I can double check the navmesh, just in case.

Due to the size of this place, you can also bring them back as far into the area as you can so their AI package has a better chance to go into those areas with you.

The only conflict is the For Sale basic script. A lot of house mods use this script, but in my experience the conflict has yet to cause problems in purchasing the house.

Another mod, seemingly v popular - has been released that conflicts - Markarth Outskirts - I hope just a shift of the entrance will patch it.

Took a look at it and there is a minor conflict. When I get around to it I will see about either shifting or creating a patch.

Would love a few more of these positioned around the world... So many castles etc are huge multi-zone areas with about 10 follower beds and even after changing the kids beds to follower beds it only gets to 16 spread across several cells, and they are usually each have a duplicated display area - I only need to display one of each Dragon Priest Mask!).
The following numbers are with the children's beds converted to adult btw
Whiterun has plenty - Skyfall (27), Silverpeak (44), BBLS and more
Northwind Keep has way over 100 (spread over a LOT of cells) - but it is way up North of Winterhold.
Travelers Inn (27) is in the Whiterun/Eastmarch/Rift triangle
The Lost Valley - South East of Windhelm can fit 59 but is pretty buggy - ie the auto recruit process doesn't work.

The major cities of Windhelm, Riften and Solitude are missing decent sized (20+) follower homes - so a copy of this placed in/near them would be great.

I remember there used to be a nice one just North of Swindlers Den in LE, but sadly it was buggy. I will look in to it. Thanks for the idea!

[Edit] Just remembered Clockwork has a ton of beds, and a decent (creepy) quest to get the house as well.

Near Swindlers Den - Dragons Keep has a number of beds, and is also good to be able to house kids as it has that specific function. Heaps of complicated cells to get around though. Also the massive Dovahkiin's Warehouse and Bedroom + Armory - a mannequin lover's dream with 260 mannequins apart form anything else, but needs someone to make some very significant landscape patches. It is also horrible to navigate and literally ruins quest markers on your map (all quests suggest to go via DW's fast travel portals).

I tried Clockwork - but had heaps of CTD's doing the quests that come with it (all showed as errors in Clockwork according to netScriptFramework crashlogs)  - it also makes some fatal edits to the area North of Kynesgrove - which I simply deleted, but they were there. That's right where The Lost Valley is anyway.

Some suggest Halls of Dovahndor in Sovngarde - but while impressive it only seemed to have a normal amount of follower beds - ie 12 or so. Not exactly a spot you run past often either lol.

I've tried probably 100 player homes, so may have missed some good ones, but would love to be pointed in the right direction. My number one concern is follower accommodation.

I wasn't thinking about Dragons Keep. This place was North of the stream near the other bandit camp. Last time I tried Clockwork it ran flawlessly, but that also depends on load order. mods. etc, etc et nauseum.

I am looking at some "Dwemer" related sites in the areas you mentioned where this would fit in perfectly. Riften is easy as there are a ton of Dwemer structures down there, the other areas will be challenging, but doable. Time to scour the map and start looking at locations.

Another idea is to combine the barracks idea with those mods that have a "spawnable" portal - they are usually full of displays and other superfluous features and only have a few if any follower beds. They have worked out how to return you to where you were when you summoned the portal somehow. Perhaps you might be able to use their portal system but change the destination.
A portable barracks would be great for those followers you pick up out in the wilds or in a dungeon and you really don't want them with you right at that moment (rescued captives etc), but don't want to backtrack to pick them up later either.

I've been using Skyrim Adventurer's Tent since LE as a portable solution. Adding General Stores makes it a lot more versatile. I it also houses 10 - 12 followers.?

Silian Manor just outside Solitude and Frostvale Estate on the outskirts of Windhelm make very functional follower compounds.  They were created by the same mod author who did Skyfall Estate near Whiterun.

I have this installed, and tried to install Skyfall Estate with MO2, and files were apparently conflicting. Which is odd, because they are very far apart in the worldspace.

It is the script for basic sale. Pretty much a generic script that does not change the houses in any way. I have the same conflict with Sindora's Hidden Hearth and there are no problems buying either property.

Same, been using it personally for a while. Now if Smart Cast could get "Officially" converted. It works flawlessly in SE/AE.
