v1.01 has been updated to work with HMA and allow > 2 adoptions.   It may work with other multi-adoption mods if they modify the existing Hearthfires quests instead of creating their own framework.

    Load order matters!

This has to load after (i.e. overwrite) HMA.

There should be no problems upgrading from v1.00 to v1.01 mid-game.  However, a first-time installation should still only be done on a new game.

Edit: if you're using the optional plugin for Mixwater Mill and also use Immersive Citizens, load Mixwater after Immersive Citizens.

I have been working with this mod for months now assuming something in my load order was keeping it was properly behaving but no amount of testing and disabling of other mods will assist in getting it to work with my setup.  I use Honorhall Orphanage Bugfixes, Relationship Dialogue Overhaul, Adoption Spouses and Moving Fixes, A Place to Rest Their Heads, Restoring Aretino Residence for anything "orphan, adoption, adopting, or orphanage" related.

This is a continuation of a current BUG REPORT - that I also commented in back in October 2023 - where I thought the issue was remedied after updating my Relationship Dialogue Overhaul mod.  At some point in the game, I was back to all children acting as though their parents were dead and traveling to the Orphanage (if Grelod was killed) so I started a new game and have been testing since.

I do not mod enough to know how the scripts are being effected but I started numerous fresh games and found the following:

The issue can be replicated with this mod AND Alternate Start.

    1. In a new play-through where using an Alternate Start, the children will act as though their parents have died and will have adoptable dialogue AFTER visiting Helgen and picking up the Adventurer's Journal and reading it then warning the Riverwood citizens about the dragon attack.  Takes approx 24 in game hours for dialogue to change.
    1. Quest is irrelevant.  Simply waiting 24 hours upon arriving in Riverwood PRIOR to visiting Helgen was enough to trigger the bug.

    2.  If you skip the Helgen quest and choose to avoid, you will still run into an issue after completing INNOCENCE LOST and talking Avetino boy.  While the children won't act as though they are adoptable, if you wait 24 hours and then visit the orphanage, it will be remodeled and filled to max capacity with children whose parents are STILL ALIVE.

    3. Tested with "vanilla start" via the Alternate Start statue:  24 hour in game wait will start the bug.  :(

The only solution I have found is doing a new game WITHOUT ALTERNATE START activated.  The children will remain with their parents and proper dialogue options after completing Unbound and completing Innocence Lost will not cause the orphanage to fill to capacity.

No amount of changing the load order will remedy.  I am testing a "Vanilla Start" with Alternate Start next to see if it's the loading cell or scripts from Alternate Start causing issues.  Tested, results on #3.

NOTE:  I am not running an up to date Alternate Start due to being on an older version of USSEP for 1.6.640.  This may be my own problem.  :(

***POSSIBLY SOLVED:  I have updated Alternate Start to a different version that is still compatible with my USSEP.   I have also put Honorhall Fixes and Expansion.esp BELOW AdoptionandMovingFix.esp both of which are BELOW Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp.  I repeated everything as I did with previous tests:  24 hour in game wait with all mods activated after completing Helgen quest AND doing the Innocence Lost quest (either order).  Orphanage did NOT fill to capacity and the children are not giving me adoptable dialogue.

Load order, near very bottom (LOOT will put Alternate start near bottom, manually adjust the following:):

Alternate Start* - Live Another Life.esp
    AdoptionAnd Moving Fix.esp
    Honorhall Fixes and Expansion.esp

*Version Specific!:  Live Another Life-272-4-1-4-1608766947 which works with USSEP 4.2.8.

I hope this is helpful to anyone!

Hello, wondering if anyone can help. This mod seemed to break all the children in my game. They all think they are orphans now. I use setfaction console commands to make them not orphans, but the ones who moved to the orphanage won't go back home! I even teleported them home and tried recycleactor...
    Help please!

Same here, all my game's children are now acting as if their parents died in this playthrough...

So I have installed the main mod and the extra Mixwater - A Home for Orphans. Is there a way to go up to an orphan and just send them to Mixwater? I am on a new game and have not done anything with Grelod yet. I understand that for Honorhall to be open you have to progress in that questline, but it seems like sending kids to Mixwater should not rely on that. I have never done adoption stuff in game before. I cannot figure out the mechanics in-game to just send orphans to Mixwater.

I have gone up to a vanilla orphan, but no dialogue options allow you to send them to Mixwater. There has to be a way to do it!

To be clear, I don't want to adopt kids; I just want the ability to send orphans to possible homes.

Also, I have this intriguing new-ish mod: BeastHHBB - Adoptable Beast Children - Argonian and Khajiit. I don't know if it is compatible with this improved orphanage system. Is there a way to find out or make it compatible?

Thanks again for this critical piece of the greater puzzle!

So I updated but my Mila is still bugged. I managed to remove the factions but she still has the Honorhall Sandbox Package. So did this Mod ruin my Playthrough?

Hi subhuman, I'm wondering if this is compatible with Honorhall Orpahnage Upgraded? Seems to modify two differnet things but I suspect it may overlap. The other mod modifies a post-Grelod orphanage only.

Hi, I'm having a little trouble with Mila Valentia, somehow she moved to Mixwater mill despite her mother still alive. I have HMA and AI Overhaul and this mod overwrite both mods. I install this mod on a new save, at first she at Whiterun but after awhile I noticed she not in Whiterun anymore and moved to Mixwater mill.
Is there a way to reset her? I tried "recycle actor" but she still have the Mixwater mill package.

After initial start (Alternate Start), the quests "Innocence Lost" and "With Friends Like These..." were completed.

However, Constance did not send me a "Consider Adoption" letter.
Also, even after assassinating the parents of a potential orphan, the Honorhall Orphanage is not taking in the child.

Are there any items that I should check from the console?

This mod load order is set as far back as possible.
I unpack a "Honorhall Fixes and Expansion.bsa" file, loose file it, and it's no good.

The current quest stage is described next.
      getstage DB01 >> 255
      getstage DB02 >> 255
      getstage BYOHRelationshipAdoptable >> 0
      getstage BYOHRelationshipAdoptableOrphanage >> 0
      getstage _SUB_HonorhallFixesQuest >> 10

HMA is also installed, but the load order is set before our mod.

Also, both HMA and our mod are extracted from the bsa file and made into a loose file.
We have confirmed that our mod's pex file has not been overwritten by MO2.

A great mod that the game really needed. I always wished for a mod where I could ask the 4 kids that came with the DLC to go to the orphanage. I always found it confusing that the Arrentino boy should go to the orphanage but nobody cares about Sophi?Yes she is supposed to be an easter egg to the match girl but still.
I can't always record the kids when I do a new RPG run. Sometimes you play a bad guy and kids don't really fit in. But seeing them running around on the street is always mean to me as a person. No matter what my character is like.I really want children to have a home.

The game doesn't consider Sofie, Lucia and Alesan to be orphans.  Realistically, they are in the sense that they have no parents or guardians (Alesan sorta does), but it classes them as "urchins" instead.
Having them move into the orphanage is something that could be done, but is not something I did.

The homeless girls in Whiterun and Windhelm, will this mod allow you to tell them they could go there and live?

I really wish this was answered, Id download this mod if it did. I hate the overhaul with the unnatural pool made of wooden logs, that mod has no navmesh and all kids are standing around..
