I never got why there was always that huge "Blue Eyes vs. Dark Magician" thing. IIRC, Dark Magician had 2500 attack points and 2100 defense points, while Blue Eyes had 3000 attack. That means, of course, Blue Eyes wins every time unless you get some Malevolent Nuzzler up in there.

I can see that. Jokes aside, these were the trademark cards of both of them and while the Dark Magician had less raw stats he had more cards that he could combo with, making it a fight between trickery and raw power...
The Dark Magician Vs Blue Eyes battle goes back 5000 years, when pharaohs and powerful sorcerers battled with monsters summoned from the shadow realm. The pharaoh (yami) had control of the 3 egyptian gods, but didn't use them unless it was necessary. Instead he favored the Dark Magician. Priest Seto didn't actually control the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, but managed to gain control of it through its previous owner, The Maiden with Eyes of Blue.
Priest Seto was actually supposed to serve Yami as Master Sorcerer (I think), but I don't quite remember what changed that. I think there were doubts about Yami's rule after Marik attacked and nearly defeated Yami, even with the power of the egyptian gods.
Should also be noted the Yugi and Seto are reincarnations of Yami and Priest Seto, if you didn't already pick up on that.
