There are many complaints of CTD with using northborn scars. Would this still work if I deleted the northborn scars esp and used that as a vanilla replacer?
You could, delete the .esp, but you would not get the benefits of the patch that this mod, Northborn Scars for High Poly Head, offers for the High Poly Head mod. Crashes with the original mod might be due to another mod causing issues with it.
It can already be used in existing games and is already ESL-ified. The optional file is just for quality-of-life and shouldn't be used normally, but mostly not at all since it isn't necessary.
It 100% cannot be used in existing games, because the formids are different. Even if the plugin has been compacted, it hasn't been compacted into the same space as the original, meaning any character that uses one of these scars will become broken.
Oh yeah forgot about that. Went back and ran into an error in saving, which is probably why I settled for the current solution, but I got it now. Pushing it out soon, thanks for the alert. This will mess with a lot of people's presets if they update. Nevermind, settled for optional non-replacing version. Old presets will not use HPH unless made to. ESL-ified. Renamed HPH brows for clarity.
Do not use any scars under Skyrim.esm, rather use the scars from NB-Scars.esp and High Poly Head.esm. The High Poly Head.esm scars will use the textures supplied by Northborn scars that attempt to replace vanilla scar textures. Skyrim.esm scars will use the replaced Northborn vanilla scars, but not with the High Poly Head meshes, hence why they look weird.
I'm replaying Skyrim again, and tried reinstalling this mod - seems the scar still look buggy despite choosing the textures from NBScars and High Poly Head...
Maybe is it a problem because I am using a face preset? I am using the Kurone Ria preset. I basically have all the prereq mods that makes that preset work.
If there are any other inputs you may have I'll appreciate it. But if worse comes to worse and the textures are still buggy, I'll just not use scars...
I am having the same issue. And your patches are taking priority in my load order. I think maybe your patches need to be updated for the latest High Poly Head.
High Poly Head has not been updated in two years; the most recent version is 1.4. In spite of that, this mod does not need to be updated. There is very likely an issue with another mod, and I may be open to compatibility patches. Try using the file in the optional files if that helps with other follower mods.

Anyone have an idea what I can do?
You sir, deserve a couple dozen commendations, let me start by applying one of my own. Endorsed!
