    Known Issues
    Spoiler:
    Show
    Issue: Skyshard beacons appear faded/invisible/glitchy.
A: Like this or this? This is unfortunately due to what appears to be a Skyrim engine limitation with regards to shaders. Snow/Fog shaders may clip with the Skyshard beacons thus reducing its visibility, or in extreme cases, rendering it invisible. Consider it an "immersive" feature whereby visibility is reduced due to said shaders.
    Patch For Another Mod?
    Spoiler:
    Show
As much as I would love to accommodate each and every individual and their vast mod load order, it sadly becomes a logistical nightmare to keep up with all the different changes that occur, especially when it comes to mods that edit the landscape (city/town/area overhauls) and complex gameplay overhauls.

Take for example 3 different mods that edit an area one of my Skyshards are located in; if I made a change to my one Skyshard position to solve for mod A, it may not be resolved for mods B and C, which means I'd have to go in and test on multiple occasions, and that is just for 3 different mods. It can quite quickly get out of hand and add an extra layer of unnecessary complication and stress for something the mod author themselves can easily patch in (as most often do if requested kindly).

I've taken the utmost care to ensure compatibility as best I could, by choosing obscure locations, and by ensuring no landscape changes were made. As such, if any mod author wishes to make a patch to find a happy new home for any of my Skyshards, I am more than okay with that.

The same is true for any mods that may alter vanilla gameplay upon which my mod is tested and based on; if their mod has broken any internal workings of Skyshards I am more than happy with them releasing a patch to ensure its continued operation.

Everyone has a passion and a goal when creating a mod, and I firmly believe that if you make breaking changes to the vanilla gameplay, you should be responsible for any patches that are needed for any other mod to coexist with your mod. The reason I say this is because I would much rather spend the time adding to my existing mods, or creating exciting new ones. I say this with all due respect to other mod authors of those who do create patches I have absolute respect for, and of course if I had the free time and it was a quick and easy fix I would gladly incorporate it in an update as I have on multiple occasions in the past.

TL;DR: If another mod breaks this mod, please kindly ask the offending mod author for a patch.
    Frequently Asked Questions
    Spoiler:
    Show
Q: Will this be made available for Skyrim Special Edition?
A: Absolutely! I will endeavour to keep the SSE version updated, despite developing for Oldrim.

Q: I don't want Skyshard beacons visible, can I turn them off?
A: Of course! Simply open up the Skyshards Configurator from the "Books" section of your inventory, close it, exit your inventory and follow the menu prompts accordingly to disable Skyshard beacons.

Q: I don't want each Skyshard tracked individually, or want a simple quest system, help?
A: I've got you covered. Simply open up your Skyshards Configurator from the "Books" section of your inventory, close it, exit your inventory and follow the menu prompts accordingly to change the quest system from Full to Lite.

Q: I see this mod uses scripts; what is the performance impact?
A: So first off, we have a config script that runs once on game load, and that handles version checking to see if we need to apply any updates, depending on your existing script versions. The impact of this is minimal. Then we have an absorption script that is only ever fired when you activate a Skyshard. What it does is process the Skyshard counts, update variables, handle the animation sequence, update the quest system, handle the clean-up of absorbed Skyshards, etc. Lastly, we have two quest scripts that handle the tracking of individual Skyshards (if using the full quest system) as well as updating quest progress, and both of these only run when absorbing a Skyshard. The rest of the scripts are helper scripts for these three main scripts I have mentioned. There are zero constantly running/polling scripts, so you will experience next to no performance impact.

Q: Do you have the source files of your scripts? I would like to learn/enhance/scrutinise/mock your code!
A: Of course! My entire project is available here, on Github. Feel free to help yourself, learn from the countless hours I have struggled with Papyrus, and please feel free to share your knowledge/advice with me if you think I can achieve the same results in a neater/faster way. I am all about learning new things; knowledge is power!

Q: The sound is too soft for the Skyshard ambience, it makes finding Skyshards harder!
A: The mod was developed under vanilla Skyrim conditions, as such, first check to see if you haven't changed the Effects slider (found under Settings->Audio) as that affects the Skyshard ambience intensity. Having your Music volume slider too high may also be drowning out other sounds, such as the Skyshard ambience. Lastly, ensure the Master volume slider is at the max and that your headphone/speaker volume is sufficiently turned up.

    Regarding Updates
    Spoiler:
    Show
To the best of my ability, I will ensure that all Skyshard updates are backwards compatible with ANY version of Skyshards, and furthermore; that any fixes/updates are retroactive (will work on any script version save).

So if you're wanting to jump into the Skyshards experience, but afraid that a future update will require you to have a "clean install" or that you might lose progress, then fear not; this is why I work tirelessly to ensure that is never an option!

The correct process of updating is to remove the previous install completely, and install the newest version of Skyshards, along with any Enhancements you might like. Do NOT use a save cleaner, as it may wipe variables required by the scripts that track your progress.

So literally uninstall the old version, install the new version, load the last save you made that had the old version of Skyshards and my scripts will automagically update everything for you. No need for waiting in cells for hours on end, straightforward and simple!

    - Player controls are now correctly restored as they were after a Skyshard absorption.
    - You're now able to specify 0 perk points gained as requested by those who simply want the hunt!
    - In-game update messages for the mod now show after the update has completed.

    HELP WANTED!
So this mod started off as a community effort, with several other authors partnering up with me to get it off the ground. But we're not done yet, and I could use some help to complete and polish up the mod if there are any takers!

    Skyshard Beacon Mesh
In order to enhance the Skyshard experience, I could use a skilled mesh master to help bring the beacon more in-line to what I had originally envisioned. I would like to add a few effects where applicable and handle lighting in a smoother manner.

If you are able to assist, or know someone who would; please do feel free to get in touch with me, as I would greatly appreciate it!

I'm Back And I Want YOUR Suggestions!

I have been caught up in so many other projects, with the last one finally being wrapped up, so I find myself with some much needed free time. What better way than to spend it on, than on this passion project of mine that seems to still be enjoyed by others to this day?!

I have been working on the 2.0.0 update on and off for quite some time now, but I'd also like to go above and beyond that when it releases. So if you have any suggestions for the mod, PLEASE do not hesitate to share them with me as a reply to this post or via DM if you'd rather prefer that. I really want to get to as much as I can while I have the free time, enhancing it, while also enhancing my own skills and putting to test all the things I have learnt over the past several years since I started modding!

Let's make this an even greater experience for all, together!

Been tracking this mod since forever. Haven't use it yet because of the config book which kinda ruins my immersiveness Maybe update 2.0.0 will finally introduce MCM to this mod and an option to remove the config book from the game? Oh and a color adjustment closer to ESO's skyshard would be nice, because currently the shard's color in this mod is dark blueish whereas ESO's is closer to sky blue. Optional ENB light addon to the skyshard would also be cherry on top.

@GroveJr: Update 2.0.0 will be the end of the configurator as we know it. :( I have a special plan for the little guy! And yes, there will be an MCM! I do agree on the colour, though the textures were donated to me by the incredible renthal. I'll see what I can do; perhaps include it as an optional? If I was skilled at modelling I'd have opted for the traditional ESO style, but then again, this is Skyrim and I do kind of like how it uses the soul shards as a base, something fitting about it. Regarding the ENB light addon, if you have any more information regarding that I can look into it.

ENB light is a feature that adds actual glow to the object so the environment around them also lights up. But I see someone has already made it here. I don't know about the technical details but perhaps the author of the original mod could give you some more in-depth technical insight about it.

@GroveJr: Thank you for the explanation, I appreciate it! Nothing makes me happier than seeing others in the community come together to improve upon mods that they use, so that put a smile on my face! I just wish such authors stopped by to share their wonderful work so that I can showcase it on the mod page!

If that is what you wanted then I see no need to implement it into the base mod, as that'd simply invalidate that mod and I'm not about that since the only reason this mod came to be in the first place was because an author of a similar mod did not want addons/enhancements to their mod and actually pulled down a mod that would have improved their mod (that many other users requested). I'll see about the colour though! Thanks again for sharing!

Hmmm, I don't really like giving ETAs as I don't like to make promises I can't keep. But I'd like to aim for a May release, June at the latest. The sooner the better, so I can then focus my free time on other exciting things.

There's an elephant in the code... I'm new to using mods, and I'm trying to translate it into Spanish so I can fully enjoy it in my language. I'm using SSEEdit to change the text; I can do this with all the texts, but the only text that I can't seem to modify is the message "Skyshard absorbed! Pieces collected"... even though I change it to Spanish, it still appears in English, and I don't know why this is happening. The path in SSEEdit that I'm modifying is "message", "DMN_SkyshardAbsorbedMessage", and in DESC - Description is where the message is, but I change it to Spanish and it still appears in the game in English... Does anyone know why? Or is it that the path is different, but I've searched and I can't see where else this message appears.
Postscript: The elephant was to keep your attention, haha sorry.

The elephant definitely got my attention, thanks! Sadly that part you are referring to is hardcoded in the code. If you're familiar with compiling Papyrus scripts you can grab the latest source off of my Github, make the changes, and then compile it. I'll see about adding translation support going forward, there really shouldn't be a hardcoded language message via code, sorry about that!

I realize that this is a somewhat unreasonable request, but I would love to see this mod get a museum display in Legacy of the Dragonborn.

Have you considered requesting an official or unofficial patch via their page or patch central? I'm not quite familiar with the mod and its intricacies, but if no one has had a look before 2.0 I'll see what I can do!

Legacy of the Dragonborn already has a patch for ESO Skyshards and this mod looks like an upgrade/replacement since ESO Skyshards was deleted from nexus so it might be compatible or if not can probably work with some simple edits to the mod

This mod is neither an upgrade nor a replacement. Funny enough, the mod author didn't appreciate some collaboration in improving their mod (with all credits going to them), despite others liking the new additions. And after a long back and forth, it was decided it would be better if I just made my own standalone mod, and so here we are!

All of the features/additions are a culmination of years of endearing love thanks to users providing feedback, as well as some epic mod authors pitching in to help make the mod what it is today. Alone we can't hope to achieve mod, but together? The possibilities are endless.

So sadly the linked patch would not work, as I created my quest framework from the ground up, with both full and lite versions. If someone wants to take a shot at it, I'd be more than happy to endorse and assist in any way I can, otherwise it'll just have to go to the end of my backlog for the 2.0 release.

I know this is an old topic, just wanted to chime in that I love this mod (I'm a sucker for collections) and would also love to see a Legacy of the Dragonborn patch and display.
Keep up all the great work, Deadmano! Thanks for all you do.

Thanks for the reminder @StipulatePrism! I've gone ahead and reached out to Jelidity and perhaps they're willing to assist or share some of their gorgeous assets with us! I'd much rather collaborate and showcase such incredible talent than start something from the ground up.

Here to also say that I am excited at the idea. I never got to play the other Skyshard mod, and was finally going to add it to my load-order because of being able to patch it into LOTD, but I made the decision to not update past 1.6.64. I ended up literally 2 days too late to download the version that will work with my Skyrim, and that mod author does not allow old versions of his mods to be posted. Stumbled across this mod, though, when looking for the other, and it looks amazing, so I'm excited to add it to my load order regardless, but with basing my whole game around LOTD, I would be thrilled if this did happen. No pressure of course, but I'm glad that other people are potentially excited, and that there's been recent discussion!

I'm assuming that the previous attempt at reaching out to Jelidity (for either approval to use resources or for collab) resulted in a dead end - but I think it would be a great initiative for those playing LoTD (I'm not one of them, but will be looking to do a LoTD playthrough in the future).

Also wanted to mention: great work on Skyshards. It's one of those mods I can't imagine being missing from my load order.
Love it when I'm taking a stroll and I hear the telltale sound of a skyshard in the area (or seeing the beam of light) prompting me to explore more of Skyrim.

@Jasmyr: It is amazing to see just how many people love and use Legacy of the Dragonborn, and the amount of requests I have received to add support for it is staggering! I honestly wish I was good at textures/models to do it justice, but that is honestly the main thing stopping me; I am a programmer and it is rare that we are gifted with the ability to also do textures/models!

@CorpSanct: On the contrary! Jelidity was actually super friendly, however she had lost the source files to her mod so wasn't able to assist in that regard.

@gutmaw: Hold up! Are you guys from the wonderful team at LOTD offering to help add a patch for this mod? :O What would you need from my end to get things working? I would love to be able to help out those who have been asking for LOTD support!

Awesome mod, really give more incentive to explore Skyrim.

But for some reason, I can't find the config book related to the mod, nor in my inventory or anywhere else. How can I make it spawn ?

Heya! Sorry for the delay. If you type "help configurator" in the console, it should show you the ID of the book, then you can do:
      player.AddItem <ID> 1

Let me know if that works for you!

So that mod the author said they no longer have the source files for. Else that would have been amazing! I'm no texture/model artist and if I did try it'd be nowhere near the level of detail and beauty that they did. My only hope is that someone stops by and is willing to collab!

Since your taking suggestions for your next update.

Add skyshards to Solstheim, Forgotten Vale, and Blackreach since they are part of SE.
Add skyshards to significant dungeons (maybe just ones with dragon priest or dragon claws).

LOTD is expected to update at the end of April so would be nice to have a display. Could even make more of a map like the one on the description page that lights up. Could add a constellations in a shape of a dragon, claws or priest mask if you add dungeon idea.

Add skyshards to other mods like Wyrmstooth, or LOTD (thinking more of odyssey when it releases).

Maybe create a story/quest to why skyshards are in skyrim and reason for collecting them. Maybe Jayserpa or other modders could help with ideas.

Thanks for the mod and hope this helps.

THIS is exactly what I was looking for and was just about to ask for more suggestions as I am finally free from my previous project and can now give this the attention it deserves. I do like these ideas, and I do plan to add new worlds, so that fits perfectly.

Regarding things that would add animations or textures, that is a department I am really lacking in, as I just LOVE to code; perhaps if a kind person stumbles upon this message they'd be willing to reach out to collaborate? That has always been my dream; expand upon the mod and include others in the process as a community effort.

Regarding dungeons, I'm not sure, I know there is another mod like this one that covers dungeons, and I am perfectly fine having the two work together in unison, than encroach and add to what they're already doing.

The quest sounds very interesting, and I actually had a hilarious idea for one but sadly I am not all too familiar with animations and rigging to pull it off! We'll see, perhaps we can get a talented voice over individual who is willing to cast as one of those scribes the quests allude to?

      Keep up the awesome suggestions!

Glad to read you like the suggestions.

As for quest suggestion, LOTD has an explorers society and fossils excavations with its own area. The fossil excavations is a mod addon that has its own display in the museum, so similar to skyshards. You can have a quest character want to join them due to finding a skyshard and sends the dragonborn to help locate the shards. Maybe it has to do with the constellations, shards are named after the sky after all, since they are featured so prominently in the skill tree and standing stones. If you locate all the skyshards maybe there is some ancient dwemer device that can be triggered to that sends the dragonborn on an adventure that can be featured in Odyssey. LOTD does have a planetarium that isn't really used but does feature Madras as part of the explorer's society, and his dwemer technical skills. Maybe the skyshards can light up a new map of the skies that leads to some crazy adventures with dungeons, bosses and loot that the dwemer wanted kept secret. Of course you'll have to ask Icecreamassassin and the LOTD team. I figured it would be an interesting side quest that fits the theme of LOTD/Explorer's Society/Odyssey. Icecreamassassin did note that he wants to develop more quests for the individuals of explorer's society so maybe this would be a good partnership. Hope this helps.

Can I ask something? What "Enable Statics" means in the config menu? It said"Would you like the statics for absorbed Skyshards to be enabled, or disabled?"
At first, I thought it was the absorbed animation, I tried to switch it to disable, and enable, no animation changed.
English is not my mother tongue, and I never played the online game, is it something to do with it?
And, Thanks for your Great Work! It's Amazing!

@wstan9112: Thanks for dropping by and your kind words! So by default when you absorb a Skyshard, it will leave behind a copy of the shard itself, but without any animations on it (you absorbed the energy so it is just an empty shard now). If you disable that option, it means the "static object" AKA the Skyshard will simply disappear after you absorb it, so it leaves no trace behind (did the Dragonborn eat it?!). I hope that helps!

Brilliant mod, I'm 2 shards away from getting them all, but I have zero idea where they are, I've spent about 4 IRL days looking and cannot work it out. I stuck on:
The Reach #9. Taking part in a ritual sacrifice of local tradition.
The pale #3. Outside a dilapidated building which was once a proud home.

    Again, top top class mod!

Thanks for the great mod. If you are looking for an ideal for another mod. Horizon Zero Dawn has these windchimes on trees everywhere throughout the game. I'm pretty sure it's Horizon Zero Dawn. I can't even remember what they do, possibly just a collection challenge. But they would be cool for Skyrim, maybe with a wind chime noise when you are close like with the Nirnroot.

@FirstCreme2038: Oh dear! That is a lot of dedication, I'm sorry those two are eluding you, but kudos to you on finding so many so far! I am just worried you don't have a mod that might be hiding them somehow, but both are off the beaten path so to say. If you're not opposed to it, the configurator book in your inventory has a misc option where you can turn on the map markers. Perhaps save first, then turn them on, enable "tmm 1" in your console, and then gleam the location on the map so you have an idea more or less of where to look? Then just "tmm 0" to disable all the map markers again when you're done. Please do let me know if you get a chance as to whether or not you managed to find them!

A trophy shard that must be kept in the inventory - it gives buffs to something or adds something - I'm not sure what but it does something lol
