The original Campsite mod is a more streamlined version of Campfire. It offers a great number of features like building an actual campsite, complete with storage and crafting benches, without all the extra items, powers, menu clutter, background scripting, etc. Chesko mods also tend to have some... Bloat.
Campsite and Campfire offer a different approach to the same problem. Personally, I've been gravitating towards simpler mods over the years, but to each their own.
All this mod does, however, is remove Campsite's limitation of camping near cities and indoors.
Yeah, what he said. Campfire is the OG, feature-rich mod, Campsite is stripped down, but runs cleaner and lighter, which is attractive to those of us who value low script loads.
I went from Frostfall + Campfire + CACO + iNeed for survival (feature rich but script intensive) to Campsite + Sunhelm. Very efficient, and while less feature rich, still excellent for enriching gameplay.
If you are on AE, Going even lighter and going for conners (Maker of Sunhelms) Fantastic Survival Mode Improvement (Which recognises these heatsources by design) + Campsite + These scripts. Having said that both options are much lighter and worth using.

Campfire to Campsite
Frostfall to Frostbite (ESL)
iNeed to Vitality
How so?
WTF? No. You still need it. This is a patch, it just replaces some scripts.
EDIT: Disregard, I'M the one who can't read. I heard Campsite when you clearly said campfire. By all means, carry on.It says pretty clearly it requires campfire to work
