RUSTIC SOULGEMS was a mod I had intended to release a while ago, but was never happy with it. Not the textures, but how the meshes operated. I wanted the soulgems to have transparency like real crystalline gems, but I couldn't figure that out myself. I asked Saerileth if she could employ the same refracting method that was used on her Gemling jewelry gemstones (a technique that madcat221 discovered), and she agreed to help. I was finally able to get the soulgems looking the way I intended them to be.
Skyrim doesn't handle transparency well, so the effect isn't perfect, but it's still much better than those dull opaque rocks that Bethesda tried to pass off as soulgems.

RUSTIC SOULGEMS SE - FOMOD - ENGLISH Only - Contains textures/meshes + 8 plugins: - Choose between sorted/unsorted - Flagged as ESL (optional) - GIST patch included
Hello, what does "sorted" and "unsorted" means please? (not english speakers and if I understand what these words mean, I really don't in the context of modding). Thank you
i don't think i love the glowing much for the filled gems. i think this effect could be improved. but i'd rather have it glowing than nothing at all. i want the filled and non filled to look distinctly different. they look different.
i might be more inclined to want to see, rather than flashing, maybe a mystic swirling inside the gem, i don't know how hard that would be to make.
i think the shape and color of all the soul-gems looks really good.
the renaming is also helpful
Thanks for the Mod. much better than vanilla by far.
Hello! would it be possible to modify the mod slightly so there are no animations? i personally love the textures and transparency this mod adds but find the animations too agressive(?) if that makes sense. If you don't feel like doing that, would it be possible for me to modify the mod myself for that purpose?
Curious about this myself, it's telling me the same thing.
EDIT: looking at it in XEdit, looks like it's the records for "soulgemgrand" and "soulgemblack". They're identical to the records in skyrim.esm. Don't think it would hurt to clean it, but if you don't have any other mods that effect soul gems it probably wouldn't hurt to leave it alone either.
I can't make any guarantees, but with almost a million downloads and no serious errors reported in the posts (none that I can find anyway), I think you're probably safe to keep the mod and leave it alone.
Guess I'll be the first. Game was hard crashing anytime I got within cell load distance of Fort Greenwall, approaching from any direction. NetScript log returned a D6DDDA error, indicating a memory issue or corrupt mesh/texture. Since I knew it wasn't the former, I set about looking for the latter in the stack and eventually came across soulgemgrand_n.dds. Sure enough, the CTDs stopped after disabling this mod.
Update: Was still crashing after cleaning, so I took a peek in my textures/clutter/soulgem folder and discovered that soulgemgrand_n.dds was missing (Have no clue how that could've happened, as I've never touched that folder and no other mod overwrites those textures or conflicts with the esp.) Anyway, I redownloaded the mod and extracted just that texture to the soulgem folder and now all is working. So glad, as there really is no substitute for this... gem (I'll see myself out now.)
Mod files can corrupt both during downloads and during extraction. It's not uncommon for that to happen with no wrong action by the user. Just redownload and reinstall the broken mod. Once I had a very inconsistant crash around whiterun's honey brew meadery that was caused by a bad file in my enhanced vanilla trees download that caused a problem with dyndolod, so removing dyndolod would stop the crash. Redownloading the mod and installing it again and regenerating dyndolod was the ultimate fix. But that took over a week to figure out...
As of around 2022 the new mindset is to NOT clean files, and cleaning ITM's is considered not necessary. (My source, a lot of discourse online + from my own experience of not cleaning and being able to play the game just fine for dozens of hours without any issues.)
From my testing removing the esp file eliminates the sort functionality as Gamwich mentioned, but it also removes the pulse effect. It can be used as a replacer only without the esp though for anyone who was curious!

I hope people enjoy this little addition,
