There is now an alternative version with a cost added, thank you metalkill1 for making it!

EDIT: The cost-version is missing the sign model. I can't fix it currently myself, but here are metalkill1's instructions on how to do it yourself, if you want to use the cost-version:
    Spoiler:
    Show

You need the resource from nexus for the sign and script, it actually activates just like a regular mod so just install it with mod
manager and enable and it will show up in creation kit

    https://www.nexusmod...yrim/mods/36756       -For sale sold file

Go into creation kit and Load up the esp

To start we are going to create the messages and key, so for the messages go to the objects window in creation kit and find messages,
your going to create 3 messages one for For sale, not enough gold, and
    sold

right click create new , I personally name them _001Theitemname to find them easier as they will be at the top when searching but the name
    is completely up to you

For the first message right click new, this message will be the one they see when they click the sign so name id _001Forsale

title can be left blank or put For Sale

Message text- your choice on how to word it, this is what the player will see so for example- Would you like to purchase this house
    for 2,500 Septims?

Menu buttons right click new in the item text box type in yes, then right click again new and in the item text box type in no. Then hit ok
this will allow the player to select yes or no to purchase.

Second message is for if the player does not have enough gold, so same as the first one right click in the message area and click new ,
    name the id _001Notenoughgold
This one does not need a title or any buttons so just fill in the message text saying what you would like and then hit ok, example- Sorry
but you do not have enough septims to purchase this property!

Third message is the for sale message the player will see when they purchase the property so right click messages, new, name the id
    _001Sold
this one also does not need any buttons or a title so you just add text to the message text, for example - Sold! The key to your new
property has been added to your inventory!

Now that the messages are done create your key, go to the objects window and you can either create a new key from scratch or just
duplicate a key already in game, that's the method I go with but I will
    walk you through each option

    For creating a new key
in the objects window find the key tab then right click new
id - so for example _001Thealleynookkey
Name -The Alley Nook Key (this is what you see when the key is in your inventory)
    Pickup sound-ITMKeyUpSD
    Put down sound- ITMKeyDownSD
    Model-Key model of your choice
    Keywords-VendorItemKey

For Duplicating a key already in game
in the object window click key
Find a key with the model you like or pick any
so for example right click battle born farm key and click duplicate then on the duplicate version (Please make sure it says Duplicate
before you edit) hit edit, change the id to _001YourHousenamekey so for
this property it would be_001TheAlleyNookKey and then for the item name
which is what you will actually see name it The Alley Nook Key then save
Creation kit will ask you if your ok with changing the key and hit yes

Now go to the outside door for the house and double click it and select lock and choose the key you made

Next step is to make the actual for sale sign so at the top of your creation kit click the boxed T and create a new trigger. Select new
then name the id and title what ever you please. go into model and find
the for sale sign model in your data folder. Once that is done click ok
and your going to see a rather large red box, double click that and
click the primitive tab then primitive type none and collision layer
L_trigger and then click the player activation button
Now hit ok and position your sign where you would like it to be, the sign will disappear when the item is sold but if you put it on a
added pole the pole will not so if possible place it on the door or a
    wall near the door.

Next double click the sign once it is in place and add script, find the script it will be the ForSaleBasic script. once you have added the
script double click it to open it up and hit auto fill. Now were going
to edit the price and add our messages and key that we created earlier.

While your script box is still open go down the line and edit these

Cost -edit value and choose the value you want the house to sell for
    deed01- you can ignore
    deed02- you can ignore
gold001- auto fill took care of that
Housekey01- edit and find your key
House key 02- you can either ignore or add your key again to have a extra copy or if you did a separate key for a back door or guest house
ect this is where that key would go
Mainmenu- edit and find the For Sale message
Notenoughgold-Edit and find your not enough gold message
Sold- Edit and find your sold message

    click ok

Now your all done! Save your changes and test out in game.

Credit to -berticus0001 for the ForSale sign and script =)

I am doing a huge review of a few dozen player homes in Skyrim, trying to find ones for different build. Absolutely love this one. Perfect for a Bard, or even anyone involved with the Imperial Legion, like my Dibella worshipping Penitus Oculatus Agent. Love it! Thank you.

I have to edit my post. I love the mod, it's actually what i was looking for. A minimalist and paid house in Solitude. Many thanks to the authors.

It is in an alley, next to the outer wall, behind the first house when you come from the Castle Dour courtyard and go towards the blue Palace.

Thank you.  I love this house.  It is free, has plenty of storage and is quiet and out of the way.  Why would I want anything else in Solitude.

    Really impressive home for use.
Could you add the light on-off function? It would be better if I can turn off the light source except hearth fire in night time. and without any light except light from window in the morning.

Thanks! I'm afraid I don't have the motivation to add a script for that, but if you would like to add it yourself, go ahead!

I love this mod idea! I haven't been able to try it yet because of my packed mod loadout, but I hope I can soon.

Would you consider making patches for some of the more popular Solitude overhauls? I understand if you don't want to, just wanted to see since that might affect the choices for my next modded playthrough.

    Thank you for sharing this!

Does this conflict with a Solitude overhaul? The location should be away from all the action in a city overhaul, since it's at the edge of the city.

Very nice. No conflict with Better Cities Solitude, fits right in.

No issue with JK's Skyrim+Dawn of Skyrim either, in case anyone winds up here wondering.

This home would be perfect for my playthrough if you had to at least do SOMETHING to obtain it. I'm not really able to enjoy a mod if it makes me feel like I'm cheating, and that's pretty much what it feels like if I'm able to just get a nice new home without having to do anything to earn it. Maybe just a super simple micro-quest to get it. You could have a journal sitting on a table somewhere in the Bard's College that belongs to a spoiled rich noble who convinced her parents to let her move to Solitude and enroll in the Bard's College, but now she's decided she hates it and wants to move back home. Only problem is that her parents are refusing to pay for her trip back home, and she has no money with her to pay for it herself. All she has is this apartment that her parents bought for her. If she could just find someone willing to give her a few hundred coins for the apartment then she could afford to travel back home. So you would then just have to find her, let her know you read what she wrote in her journal, tell her you're willing to take the apartment off her hands for her, and give her a few hundred coins in return for the key. By doing it this way you wouldn't even need any new voice lines since all the new information would be in the journal.

Thanks for the suggestion! I personally don't have the motivation to do that, but if you want, you could make those changes and I could publish it as an optional file - with credit to you, of course.

Hmmmm I might have the motivation, but I don't have any experience doing anything like that. I'll give it a shot and see if I can figure it out though... at least I think I will... I might get side-tracked instead though. We'll see. :)

If you have the alternate download go to the home and there is a for sale sign on it, click it and if you choose to purchase 2 copies of the key are automatically added to your inventory so you can unlock the door.

you didn't miss the sign, I just realized the bsa failed to pack properly so the for sale sign is not visible, after I saw your message I went into the files. I've been trying for the past 4 hours and the creation kit is giving me non stop issues packing this bsa and deleting the esp. Going to try to get it fixed asap.

Aha! I just ran a profile with nothing but the Nook installed and still couldn't find it, so now I feel less like I'm losing my mind. Thanks for your hard work on this--I look forward to downloading the update once it's ready!

Easily my favorite player home. Cozy, utilitarian, great location - has been the hub of my latest playthrough and will be so again I'm sure. Great addition to Solitude!
