This patch doesn't work; but honestly, the other way feels more immersive to me anyway. The Vigilants are hardcore against association with Deadra of any kind. Just having an artifact of daedric origin is probably reason enough for them brand you as a worshipper and come after you. Immersion sometimes means that an NPC will act on *their* perception of a situation, not yours. In the eyes of a Vigilant of Stendarr, you are unclean and must be destroyed.
Just a heads up: This patch, like all of the others around, has been broken after the recent update of Extended Encounters (v1.6.7), reason being FormIDs recompacted to make it ESPFE.
Updated it for the latest version, gonna leave it here, profit until the author comes back around.
Edit (June 4th, 2024): Jonx0r (author of the original mod "Extended Encounters") uploaded ESP version for the latest update (v1.6.7). If you use that, you do not need & should not use my file. It is only dedicated for ESPFE (ESL) version.
Hey, sorry for the late reply, but yes. I haven't had time to play (or mod) Skyrim much in the past couple of months but from a quick look the edited quest and corresponding conditions are still the same in the latest versions of both mods so it should still work just fine.
Love it. Extended encounters is great, but it's annoying to do a Vigilant or Dawnguard playthrough but keep getting attacked by random Vigilants because you thought picking up Dawnbreaker was okay a year ago.
