ABOUT

What even is this mod?

This mod adds The Butter Knife, a special weapon, into the game. You can find it in the Blue Palace right from the start, and comes with the ability to temper it and create a harmless replica. The Butter Knife has 6 base damage and a 20% chance to spread butter on your enemies' hands, making them drop their weapons.

The Butter Knife sucks!
It's still just a butter knife.
Author's Note: You shouldn't be able to have access to instant-kill weapons through mods - it just ruins the experience. Besides, the Butter Knife is meant to be a gimmicky weapon at heart. Besides, you should be able to attack quickly enough to make enemies drop their weapons frequently enough.

Are there any requirements?
No! You don't need any other mods or Creation Kit content installed, though you will need to have the Hearthfire DLC enabled - if for some reason you don't have Hearthfire active when you play the game. On SSE.

How do I craft the replica?
You need to have 1 Iron Ingot and 1 Leather Strip to craft a replica Butter Knife at a forge. In addition, the Butter Knife must be in your inventory.

The replica sucks!
It's a harmless replica. Don't want anyone getting hurt.
How do I temper the Butter Knife?
You will need to have 1 Iron Ingot and 1 Butter to temper the Butter Knife. The Butter is essential for the tempering process.

The Butter Knife looks just like a regular Iron Dagger!
It's still just a butter knife.
Author's Note: I'm not at all familiar with modelling with NIF files, and I didn't want to create a model that looked bad and/or broke the game. It's something I'm interested in doing, but I'd rather have something bland but functional than fancy but broken.

INSTALLATION

How do I install it?

Download one of the files (.esp or.esl - both are the same) and install it using your mod manager of choice. If you're a madman and want to install it right into your directory manually, go for it. I won't judge.
PLEASE DON'T INSTALL BOTH. Either one works fine. Installing both is asking for trouble.

But the .esp takes a load slot!
Don't worry. The file is ESP-FE friendly, and won't take up a 'big' slot in your load order. If for some reason it doesn't flag immediately as a light file, then you can do it through Wrye Bash or Vortex.

Is this compatible with x mod?
Yes, it should be. The Knife, replica, recipes and enchantment are all unique to this mod and shouldn't clash with anything. The only exception would be anything that alters the interior of the Blue Palace.

Can I install this mid-game?
NO!
Author's Note: You should NEVER install mods mid-game. When the game starts (by hitting 'New' from the Main Menu) the game loads all the active files and FormIDs up - and all references that use them. Messing with the load order AT ALL messes with those references and WILL cause damage to your game!
I will not support anyone who installs this or any other mod mid-game for any issues that arise with this mod.

But I just-
NO!

OTHER QUESTIONS/SUPPORT

I found a bug!
I don't foresee this mod having any problems or issues, but if you do find one then please leave a comment telling me what happened and I'll get to it. To help me out, try and explain what was happening before the bug happened, and what the bug caused to happen.

Why won't you help me with my bug?!
In general, there are a few bad practices that players do that would cause problems down the line. I won't help anyone who does the following:
  • Console the Butter Knife into their inventory (You shouldn't have to do this anyway, the Knife should be easy to find. Besides, blatant console usage can and will cause problems down the line)
  • Installed this or any mod mid-game (See above for why)

What if it's a compatibility issue?
The only thing I would expect this mod to have issues with is anything that changes the Blue Palace interior. If you do come across a compatibility issue then let me know WHICH mod is struggling with it and I'll see what I can do.

Can I put this in a collection?
Please ask me first before you put this mod into a collection or compendium. I'm likely to say yes, but it's just a little courtesy.

I got this mod from a collection/compendium and it doesn't work!
Then please take this up with whoever curated the collection/compendium. I'm not being mean about it, they probably know more about the mods they use than I do, and they're more likely to be able to resolve it.

Can I make a compatibility/bugfix/improvement mod for this?
Check the Permissions tab. Again, I'm likely to say yes, but please ask me first before you do.

Can I disenchant the Butter Knife?
No. The Butter Knife is eternal.
