Okay even more time has passed and I haven't heard or seen a single report of the bug since using this mod so I'm pretty that this completely fixes the bug :)
yeah it's a known issue without any real cause, one day it would work and then i'd change my loadorder a little and suddenly it wouldn't work at all. when it doesn't cause a crash it works for sure but it can be very temperamental
I am also crashing when having this mod installed, i have a pretty hefty modlist so i cannot tell which one it is. I can assure it is this mod, or the interaction between this mod and another. I have pertty much every popular vr application installed, vrik, skyui, enb, engine fixes etc.. im on index.
For me only the right controller appears double, (and permanently ingame), i have the right hand set as main
It's for sure this mdo that causes the crash on startup, but why it does it sometimes and not other times is beyond me. I'll have this mod and it will work perfectly, but then I might add another mod and suddenly it causes a crash; with or without the mod that I just added :/
It's a shame how temperemental this mod is; and if someone built a new version of this mod with the same concept but somehow without the crashing then that would be great because the double controller bug is annoying as hell
I'm not so sure that hiding the problem is the best "fix". When you see the issue depicted in your picture it indicates that you should likely restart the game as that problem brings with it a host of other issues, including not being able to navigate menus correctly, issues using VRIK guestures and problems other mods which get data from the controllers.
Unless you fix the actual cause of the bug, hiding it may only lead to confusion with users scratching their heads as to why other things are not working and generate false bug reports on other mods pages.
I'm pretty sure this does more than hide the bug. This issue isn't just that you see the Vive Wand, it's that you also permanently see your controller in your hand while you're not on a menu. This hasn't happened once since using this mod, so until it's confirmed otherwise it fixes the bug as a whole
With all due respect, there is ZERO chance that shrinking / hiding a nif via retex would fix the underlying issue. Your mod simply hides the model so the problem isn't visible to the user but does nothing to address the actual issue attached to the model being shown in the first place and issues which are also present when it does.
In order to fix the issue you'd need to develop a SKSEVR plugin which addresses the actual problem and prevented it from happening. As it stands, yes you no longer see the nif, but the nif is still being used and loaded by the game along with the other problems that brings along for the ride such as menu navigation issues, VRIK guesture problems and others.
Any way I'm not here to argue, your mod hides the visual aspect of a problem & that may be enough for some poeple.
Nice work! I don't know what causes this bug but it's not exclusive to Index controllers. I have an Oculus Quest 2, and every now and then at random I'll get the Vive Wands overlayed on top of my Oculus Touch controllers.

This issue was driving me up the wall, but it now appears to be fixed since the installation of your mod.
Thanks mate!

edit: Honestly, I'm pretty sure you're wrong. I've not witnessed any menu issues or VRIK gestures issues since using this mod, it just works.
