I got tired of carry weight mods that edited race records and sent me into compatibility hell. So here's my solution.

So the first problem with most carry weight mods is that they depend on race edits. Which means you need to patch them if you use race mods. Without a patch, your carry weight mods will either overwrite any race features from race mods you use (if loaded after), or get overwritten by the race mod and not carry over their carry weight changes (if loaded before). Meanwhile, mods I've seen that address this problem tend to rely on scripts for dynamic carry weight changes. That's where this mod comes in.

I did slap it together in a couple hours out of frustration, but it works as advertised. It edits your (and other NPC) carry weights in-game. No race records edited. Bypass a bunch of compatibility issues with race mods. Ultralight script load if using the version that affects NPCs, and no script load at all if it only affects the player.

Not really a big project, but I think some people might appreciate it. So have fun.

PS. This is intended to go with backpack or pouch mods. Maybe both.

  • Yes, I know it's a hardcore set of weight values. If it's too much, let me know in the comments. With enough feedback, I could make a mediumcore version.

Note: All values are derived from uesp, using the formula [(62.5%/100%) * (MStrength + FStrength + MEndurance + FEndurance)]. The reason I took both STR and END into account is because while strength dictates how much you can carry, endurance dictates for how long, so I decided it makes sense to account for both. Furthermore, I figure if I only used STR as a basis, people would look at my values and wonder without ever checking uesp why I would set Nords as having higher strength than orcs. Because strangely... that's canon.

                       
Future Plans

  • Allow the mod to affect horses too?
  • Allow the mod to affect werewolves and vampire lords?
  • Make less hardcore carry weight version?
  • Allow the mod to affect non-vanilla races.


                                              Compatibilities and Performance                                              

  • Should be compatible with all race mods.
  • Contains 2 scripts. 1 applies the weight to the player on initialization, and the other is used to apply the weight to NPCs
  • The mod will apply the carry weight changes once on each NPC it comes across, and will never need to run on the same NPC again.
  • If using the optional file, only one script ever fires at startup, and never again.


                                                                  Installation                                                                  

Please note this mod is designed to be installed over the vanilla 300 carry weight. Double check your race records that this is the case prior to installation, because the mod doesn't care if you've already edited them manually. It will run regardless.
