Since this mod doesn't seem like it'll get updated and permissions aren't open I'll just post this here for people who want to add back footstep sounds for their own setup.
Initial Setup You will need to download the following: hkanno64 Havok Content Tools 2010.2.0 (Download the 2010-2-0 file, x64 if you're using 64 bit windows, the other one if using 32 bit)
1. Install Havok Content Tools like you would any program 2. Extract all the contents of the hkanno64 archive to somewhere (anywhere), keeping everything intact.
How to use hkanno64 See distar's video on youtube to get a rough idea. Create the update.bat and dump.bat as stated in the video. (How to use these bat files are also shown in the video, basically drag and drop over it)
Footstep sounds are basically controlled by the annotations in the hkx file. Advanced users will probably kinda know how to do it after watching the video so advanced users can probably stop reading here.
Step by step instructions (Please still watch distar's video on how to use hkanno because it's a lot easier to understand visually than just words) 1. Extract Skyrim - Animations.bsa using bsa extractor or MO2. (Google for a bsa extractor if you don't have one) 2. From the extracted bsa, navigate to meshes>actors>character>animations>female folder and find mt_sprintforward.hkx file. 3. This is Skyrim's vanilla sprint animation. We'll be using this as reference to fix this mod's annotations. 4. Copy mt_sprintforward.hkx (Skyrim's vanilla one) to the folder where you extracted hkanno64. 5. Just like in distar's video, drag and drop the mt_sprintforward.hkx over the dump.bat file. 6. anno.txt should appear. 7. Rename this file to vanilla.txt 8. Now from this mod's extracted archive, navigate to the same animation folder. I.e. if your reference file is mt_sprintforward.hkx from the female folder, go to the female folder in this mod and copy the mt_sprintforward.hkx file into the hkanno64 folder. 9. Copy and replace when prompted. 10. Now drag and drop this mod's mt_sprintforward.hkx file over the dump.bat file. 11. anno.txt should appear. 12. Now you currently have vanilla.txt (which is the reference we will use) and anno.txt (which is this mod's annotations, which we want to edit) 13. Open both txt files with notepad. 14. When you look at both txt files, you'll see that after the lines that start with the #, vanilla.txt has two more lines, left and right footsteps. These lines are what gives the footsteps. 15. Copy these two lines from vanilla.txt into anno.txt. 16. In anno.txt, increment the #number of annotations number by two since we added two annotations. (Originally it was 95 now it should be 97) 17. Save anno.txt 18. Drag and drop anno.txt over update.bat 19. anim.hkx file should appear. This is the animation with footsteps added. 20. Copy this anim.hkx file to the place in step 8 to replace this mod's animation. 21. Delete the original mt_sprintforward.hkx in step 8. 22. Rename anim.hkx to mt_sprintforward.hkx 23. Animation is now fixed. Repeat for the other animations in this mod, using the corresponding vanilla animation as reference.
FAQ 1. anno.txt is blank Make sure you have installed the right Havok Content Tools version. I had the same problem using Havok Content Tools 2014. 2. I use vortex You have to manually rearchive your edited files as a new mod and reinstall. MO users just need to replace the original files in the installed directory.
Still bugged, DO NOT INSTALL!!! Still can't uninstall this animation despite removing it and freshly installing DAR and all other animations. DO NOT INSTALL
miken1ke has a new running animation with sound on his patreon, but it is NOT the same as this one. I tried the new one he created but I did not like it. Came back to this and will live without the sound
This going to sound super weird but I somehow have these sprinting animations in my game but I have never installed this mod. Are they included in another mod somewhere? I only noticed this because I was trying to install a different sprinting animation but it won't work because my sprinting animation has already been replaced with this one somehow. Can I get rid of these animations without uninstalling other mods?
Maybe it comes with MCO. According to the website, "It’s powered by “Elder Souls” created by professional animator and SkyrimGuild Founder : MikeN1ke".
Decided to post as reply. miken1ke has a new running animation with sound on his patreon, but it is NOT the same as this one. I personally tried that new one he created but I did not like it, not my style. Came back to this and will live without the sound, or until I figure something else...
Decided to switch. Now I am using this mod from Verolevi, it is not the same but I'm happy with it
This is the BEST animation replacer i have ever used buutt it has a major issue the footstep sounds if u can fix it as soon as u can i will keep the mod in favorites so i wont miss it Good work but this small detail my man
I was able to fix the footstep sounds using hkanno's animation annotation tools. With miken1ke's permission I'd be willing to upload them, or provide them to him so he could upload them.
A new version of the Elder Scrolls collection with fixed footsteps (and a somewhat different animation) is out on miken1ke's patreon for anyone who isn't aware, he's no longer posting on the Nexus afaik. But if you prefer this version like myself, use hkanno's animation annotation tool. On the posts page of that, the user KingstonPrince7 provides all the info you need.
