Please feel free to comment with your tales of adventure with Vigilance, or to describe Banning's death in excruciating detail.

2/1/2003 -- Hey folks. 1.1 uploaded to clean this up a bit. If you've been having issues with compatibility with Vigilance Reborn, this might help. If you don't want to update, you can also try loading Vigilance Reborn after Vigilance Unbound (this mod). With the 1.1 update, load order shouldn't matter and both mods should work either way.

Endorsed! Yeah I killed Banning because I wanted to cull the whole coven of Namira. Like a witcher move.

Wonder if it would be easy to make it to where when you buy him, he returns back like normal, but if you kill Banning, he is permanent.

Oddly enough, this works but only if I kill Banning. I downloaded it (I am also using NFF, Vigilance Reborn, and MHiYH 2) and was able to buy Vigilance from Banning as normal, but when I dismissed him he only barked at me and I had to buy him again. Sooo I console command killed Banning, and then I was able to get the Meeko dialogue from Vigilance (You can come with me if you want dialogue) and was able to assign him a home base with NFF, recruit, and talk to him to get him again. It's the same if this mod is loaded above or below Vigilance Reborn, doesn't matter. Not sure if it's an issue on my end but this is what worked for me lol

Can you please say what the conditions are for getting "high relationship", which is supposed to kick in Meeko-like scripts? I guess I can wait until I kill Banning to see if mod works correctly, but for now Vigilance works in Vanilla scripts, aka is waiting for me to pay Banning another 500 gold after being released.

Hmm, if you've bought Vigilance and then let him go, that should be sufficient to give him a relationship rank of 1 with the player. You can check your relationship with Vigilance via console: See here for more detail: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Disposition.

    Hi, thanks for the update!
What is the correct way to update? Simply disable 1.0 and install 1.1, or something more complex?

You're very welcome! You should just be able to install 1.1 over 1.0.

But the mod author said he tested it and found them to be compatible...

I have tested this and it does work. However, just to be sure, try loading Vigilance Reborn after Vigilance Unbound and see if that fixes it.

So I use this mod and Vigilance Reborn, I get the VR textures absolutely fine but I can't get the dialogue from this mod to load/work, any ideas?

Strange! I've just reverified Vigilance Unbound should work fine with Vigilance Reborn (Dwemer version is what I tested with). I'm not sure why folks seem to be having issues now, but let's see if we can narrow it it down.

The conditions this mod checks for the dialogue are:

This is Vigilance. (Makes sure only Vigilance gets the dialogue)
Vigilance has voice type CrDogVoice. (Probably not an issue)
The player does not have any other animal followers.
Vigilance is not already following the player.
      And either:
       (1) Banning is dead OR
       (2) Vigilance has a relationship rank of 3 or greater with the player (which happens when you buy him).

As you can see, this mod will only add dialogue if (1) Banning is dead or (2) You've paid for Vigilance, then sent him home. In both of these cases, you should see "What's wrong, boy? Do you want to come with me?" when you talk to Vigilance. Which case are you having trouble with?

Are these the only mods you are using? Are you seeing any conflicts with other mods besides these two? Are you able to reproduce the behavior you are seeing with only these two mods? In particular, are you using any mods that influence follower behavior or animal follower behavior?

      Hope this helps.

Thank you, my dude. This was surely a very niche issue that not many people would normally come across. I'm grateful that you've managed to create an alternative method of getting Vigilance with banning dead. You've helped a wayward pooch find a good clean home. Cheers.

You're welcome! Oddly enough, in my very first playthrough where I got far enough to meet Vigilance, I discovered you had to repurchase him if you let him go. And then in my next playthrough, I ran through Taste of Death for the first time, and Banning ended up dead before I could buy him. So when I started modding, this was something I thought for sure someone would have fixed. But I suppose you're right because if it were more common, I think this mod would have existed long ago. Anyway, happy to help! :)
