Got around to re-modding skyrim after upgrading to new computer, and finally remember this was the mod I used to use years back. In order to get a similar effect to this mod, I was running 4 other darkness mods to get things as realistically dark as I like, and there was still that weird grey overlay and the problem with flames/candles being gross and dim looking (because those other mods were mainly just adjusting the game's brightness levels, instead of doing whatever this amazing mod does). This single mod performs significantly better than what it was taking me 4 other mods to do before. So happy I remembered this one existed and hunted it down. Should be way closer to the top of the "top files" list, instead of buried like 11 pages deep. BabyHermit clearly knows how to make a proper mod. Kudos.
I've been through all the darker night mods and this one is by far the best. Mainly I think because you have the option to also clean screen filters, which gets rid of the weird grey overlay you get with other mods. I use with Claralux maxed out for light brightness and it works great.
Love this mod for Skyrim VR. It's pretty much the only mod I found that works to make stuff darker without making everything a grey haze in the rift. I don't know how much work this would be but would it be possible to get Night Eye to work correctly with this mod?

It's compatable with AE ( Latest Skyrim version ) and with Dungeon Drakness mod, which I highly recommend
