Unfortunately it did nothing as of the latest patch.

I manually put the file in the Skyrim directory. I typed "bat allnonessential" in the control console but kept getting errors. So I just deleted it.

Can you tell me what the error was?

Can NPC's kill all essential NPC's aswell or is it only possible for the player to do this?

If I run the command and keep that mod active, will it be permanent on even if I load an earlier load or is it just for the current load file?

Could you create this mod for Dawnstar and Dragonborn as well?

Thank you! Keep up the work!

The Essential tag prevents the NPC from dying, for any reason. If you want NPCs to *not* die to other NPCs, they need to be tagged with "Protected". Protected means the NPC can only die if the killing blow is landed by the player.

Hey, sorry for the late reply.
I haven't tested yet but I think it does not stay for earlier saves, just from the point that you use it onwards.
As for your other questions, the NPCs in the DLCs are way too dependent for me to be able to do this, but I can do it for you if you insist. And yes, NPCs can also kill other NPCs, protected means only you can kill them, this file sets them to just non essential.

I recommend making this into a synthesis patch similar to NPC Protector

this would be awesome. I basically want to make all essential NPCs just protected instead. A synth patcher would be incredible. Have no idea how it works myself lol

is this permanent or do i have to run this every time and dos it affects only the save you run it on?

It is permanent, and it only exists the save that you run it on. It does not carry over to other saves.
I must say, it is PERMANENT, only use this if you 100% want to kill every NPC. (let's be honest, we all do)

You can also just add bEssentialTakeNoDamage=0 under [Gameplay] in your skyrim.ini

I also prefer to have the option to kill everyone but it's not practical as at least brawls and civil war quest will break if there's no "downed" mechanic.

I tried using that option but it did not work for me so I had to make the bat file.
Also yeah this will definitely break a lot of things but I like to use it as an end game celebration thing personally, I'm sure people who download this will probably know that having all NPCs non essential is gonna break things

So wait, since this technically sets everyone nonessential, couldn't I use this to manually set someone as essential if I have to? (namely, the aforementioned civil war NPCs)

Does not work for children or some quest npc's. Even when I go through console and manually "setessential 00013BAF" it still does not allow me to kill them, even with the kill command.

It does work for quest npc's, at least it does for me when i tested it
but yeah children are invulnerable but there are killable children mods

I opened the console, typed your bat command in ... file could not be found/opened

Any idea why it is not working?

I want to get rid of these Companion dirtbags who are just a bunch of average mercenaries who try to hide their actions behind some illusionary "higher mission"
    I hate these brawlers!

If it's just for fun then OK otherwise not recommended for someone who plays seriously for completing quests.
