This mod is a good idea, but IMO if you can't ignore quests that Skyrim dumps on you then it's impossible to enjoy the game.
Also if it bothers you to leave a quest unattended until you get around to it, then it's going to degrade your enjoyment. I will leave an NPC literally standing and waiting to have a conversation while I complete an entire guild quest or something.
Total numbness to the demands and expectations of random NPC's is critical.
So, I'm saying that you can solve this one problem but if it's going to bother you to leave a quest hanging then it's going to limit so much more. I do like the mod. I installed it.
The only reason I do this quest it to get Nepos the Nose house and make it my home with some cell changing mods. This gives me two homes in Markarth. Other than that, I could care less. Not even for being Thane.
Yeah, same about being thane, I could care less, its not even worthwhile having the title , except for if you have legacy , which chnages their look, and you can place them on display..
I wish refusing his offer didn't stop the quest from happening, but only stopped him from pestering you until you are done with your stuff in Markarth and other places until you can go back to him later and start the quest.
This is also why Markarth is usually the last city I visit because I just don't want to be bothered by the quest immediately, but I also don't want to get rid of it.
I was using this mod until I stumbled upon Go Away Eltrys, which I switched to for the same reason. I have nothing against the mod, it's just a personal choice.
I actually know about that mod, since I scoured the whole nexus for a mod like this (lol). I liked this mod's approach, but not the details which is fair enough since the author probably made it for themselves first, but I thought sharing my own opinion wouldn't hurt either.
Situations like this really tempt me to go learn some Papyrus myself...
Haven't gotten to comment till now, but these types of mods are always my favorite. I actually prefer this approach because while it gives the quest a definite end by your choice, that's what I want. Some quests just don't fit certain characters, and that's ok.
There's moments of this throughout the game. Like how becoming Thane in Riften requires you to steal despite the fact that you're working for the jarl. So yeah, I treasure these kinds of mods that add choices that should've been there from the start.
This is one of three major questlines that are essentially broken from launch.
Player agency is what makes the game for a single player epic open world RPG, and in this quest, the player has little choice.
For my part, I couldn't care less that Madanach is rotting in prison, and I absolutely refuse to be imprisoned myself so long as I have the means to resist, and I know I've done nothing wrong. So at the point in this quest where the guards try to arrest me, I always end up with a massive bounty in Markarth. And my only other option is to ignore this quest, which doesn't seem right either, as people are being killed on the street because 1) Thonar refuses to do the right thing and either execute or free the deposed "King in Rags", and 2) Madanach isn't going stop raising a fuss unless and until he's freed or executed.
Like, seriously, why is it up to me to go free him from inside the prison, and why does nothing happen to Thonar or his cronies? Why can't I force the execution or pardon instead via the Jarl by revealing the secret, and have Thonar arrested?
If you ask me, this whole quest is just lazy writing.
Knowing this will happen the sec I step thru the gate , I sprint like heck thru area, so she dies , meh , but I have other things I need to do rather than get stuck with this or I'm not yet ready to do this forced crap... i just TAI the note guy and send him to the bondage house until i'm ready to release him and do the quest. i don't like being forced into a quest, especially when it involves imprisonment on my part.
I've already picked up the damn note, though I haven't read it - I assume this makes it too late to use this? Fabulous mod though, I detest this quest (which is why the note has stayed unread in my inventory for weeks).
PS - downloading it anyway so I can endorse, even if it won't work on this playthrough.
I'm late, but it could work. When Eltrys gives you the note, you can leave the conversation and then speak to him again to return the note. But I did this when I already had this mod. Needs testing.
Yeah, seems to be working fine for me. Just put it after The Choice is Yours in your load order to overwrite. Tried both refusing to take the note and extorting Eltrys.
Although my dialogue freezes after Eltrys gives you the note (I'm in dialogue, but there are no options and nothing happens), not sure if it's intended and what mod is causing that. Maybe it's Alternate Conversation Camera's fault, who knows. But you can savely leave that dialogue and immediately start a new one to return the note.
Thanks very much! Sweet :D ! The joy of watching Eltrys tamely walk away, with his note in tow... And this run I even managed to save Margaret without planning to. I`m sure she can handle it from there- and if not, not my problem :D.

Ohhhh, not likely, in fact, its actually more relaxing, and more enjoyable to do it when I ... want ..
@ Mlh
Think it'd be pointless to install it then, as its sposed help ignore and disregard it , upon meeting the guy !
