Magicka in Skyrim has always bothered me.


And to be honest, it wasn't until recently I found a simple solution. Read on, my dear adventurers...

Simply put, I love when building-block mechanics like Stamina or Mana/ Magicka can have solidly built depth. It was brought to my attention after some thought discussing the nature of FP in Dark Souls 3 through a mod overhaul having trouble balancing it (which at that point functioned similarly to Skyrim's Magicka, regen and all) that I began to realize a big issue with the bar-to-fill that we were dealing with.

All in all, waiting for that blue line to reach a certain point is boring and not exactly fun - dynamic regen or no, the lack of player input and risk beyond just running around as you waited was a snore fest that didn't really contribute to the feel of an exciting combat scenario. Not to mention that in the context of lore for either series, the blue bar didn't really make a whole lot of sense.

We're mages, grappling with mental exhaustion and pushing ourselves to our limits on the earthly plane in order to bring fiery destruction the likes of which no world has ever seen, or performing miracles unlike any to be seen again... and our main thing is just letting a bar fill for us? No. No more. Time to get involved.


What this actually does:

Easy, really. Upon loading the game you'll have a new Spell thrown into your Alteration abilities - Concentration of the Mind. You also might notice that you no longer have passive Magicka regen, as it is now enabled entirely through the dual-casting of your Spell.


Wait, that's it?

That's it. The goals from the start were rather simple, just dressed up in a bit of poet's glamour.

A: Player input to regen
- You are now in direct control of your ability, and your own limits. There is opportunity for new plays and intense moments where you'll be swapping between your learned material and backup tools in order to come out on top of the challenges that await you.

B: Risk
- Obvious, you're relegated to Concentrating should you want your Magicka back. This will undoubtedly make your journey to becoming a Master more dangerous, but also more rewarding. Plan carefully, stock up on resources should you require them - Skyrim is a dangerous place, for the swordsmen or the ones of mind.


Compatibility & Extra Notes:

This will work with any other mod which changes the in/ out of combat regeneration settings, as it is a standalone and lightweight script plugin.

It does not affect NPCs, yet, sadly, and won't for the foreseeable future.

The txt file included inside the mod's folders will allow you to change the rate of regen when casting Concentration, at default it is 1.0.

Requires .NET Script Framework

An alternate file is now provided should you want the freedom of this mod's spell casting in either hand instead of both hands being required.
