10/9/2020 Version 1.2 1. All new update to make version 1.1 go from 54mb down to 13mb. 2. Saves you 41mb and NO QUALITY LOST! 3. Don't ask me how did it, because it is magic. 4. Working on a glow version now and also working on a new mod for star/galaxy retexture to add to my sky collection (should be out in the next few days).
10/9/2020 Version 1.1a (Optional file) 1. All updates from 1.1 included in this update, plus this version is toned down for ENB user or certain weather mods, or users of both. 2. You can use this version with vanilla (no ENB or no weather mod) and it will work just fine. It will just be more dull, lower contrast, higher opacity, etc. Some might like this look.
Updates (change log): 10/6/2020 Version 1.1 1. Increased perimeter feathering opacity to eliminate hard lines at moon edges (current pictures do not represent this update, user are welcome to post pictures!).
2. Increased terminate feathering between light and shadow to create a softer transition.
3. Straightened terminate fade line between light and shadow so transition dark and light is perfectly straight.
4. Future update: Working on a glow option , 4k version (for those that might want it), toned down version for Cathedral Weather an ??Rudy, and other changes (currently compatible but some may find the contrast too high).
I will try to update mod soon with the following: 1. Better feathered opacity edges. 2. Compatible version with ENBs that have bright moons(toned down version and more opacity) and Cathedral weather especially. 3. Any other suggestions From The community between now and then, I’ll try to implement them. 4. Attempt to add glow for non enb vanilla users (enb has glow built in).
From what Ckw25 said in the description, this mod should work with the mod 'Moon Glow' (skyrimspecialedition/mods/29792). Just load this mod after that one, to replace its textures.
That mod achieves its glow effect by permanently enabling the moon's use of a mesh, normally only used in the vanilla quest Blood Moon when hunting Sindling. (In the vanilla game the moons never have a mesh except during that quest.) It requires a plugin both to make this change, and to keep the moons the same size. (The Blood Moon scene shrinks the moon to make room for the other effects surrounding the moon.) I'm guessing it also alters its copy of the moon mesh in order to make the glow white rather than red, but I have not checked.
I re-checked it myself now and found the source; I had this mod Skyglazer? in my loadorder and was overwriting it with yours?. I guess I still had it from trying out different moon mods. In the end I sticked with your mod, as it is the best looking one but seems like I forgot to remove the other one. After removing it, your moon textures do not have any transparency issues at all.
Hey CKw25 I'm planning on downloading your mod but I use regular Skyrim instead of Special Edition. So I was wondering if you could port this mod over to regular Skyrim.
I apologize to all who have been waiting for a port or update. I had to step away from modding for a while. My first baby was born a few months ago with complications. All is better now and will be returning to modding. The first thing on my list is porting this mod to oldrim.

Hello. This is by far the best looking moon mod I've seen on Nexus, exactly what I wanted for my dark skyrim modlist. The problem is I'm playing Oldrim and not SSE. Is possible to somehow use this mod with Oldrim? Also if it is not the case, can I possibly convert it to Oldrim somehow?

One suggestion would be to add a very small opacity feather around the edge so you don't get that white line around the moon and it blends in a bit more so it doesn't look like a pasted moon in the sky. I do like how you made the dark side of the moon black as opposed to opacity 0 as most other moon mods do, it ends up looking weird when you can see stars where the moon is supposed to be.
You know what always annoyed me about the vanilla moons is that the terminators aren't aligned. Unless the sun is closer to us than the moons are, the terminators (the divider between light and dark) should be parallel. It would be awesome - for me, at least - if you could fix this.
That bothers me too! Bethesda doesn’t have The moons as 3-D objects with actual shadows being cast on them front the planet. They are only flat texture images with 7 separate textures images, 1 for each moon phase (1 per phase: full, wax, wan, etc). These are rotated in and faded in and out per cycle. The sun or shadows of the planet do not actually play a part in it (I created the shadows by erasing parts of the moon to the alpha channel).

Is it normal that stars shine through the dark parts of the moon (and even some of lit the parts)?
Thanks for the mod and your hint! :)
