    Next round of work:

Roughly with next version (0.4.0) of base mod:

    • Door Patch xEdit Script
    • Default Interior cell layouts
    • Windhelm worldspace idle markers
    • Northeast Road to Winterhold
    • Continued improvement of Windhelm worldspace stuff (there are always bugs to fix and small improvements to make)

Also will be looking at some interior/NPC addons to make.
May also prioritize other stuff if we get addon authors and they have more urgent needs.
    No ETA at the moment.

In order to get this to work with Simplicity of Snow you need the fixed arena mesh to fix the CTDs and the fixed parallax meshes for the disappearing Palace of the King walls.

I'm discovering this just now, it's crazy. Amazing work.

    Is it functional ?

EDIT : seeing the abandonned status of this great mod...

    A gloomy feeling....

Everyday bikini followers pops-up with tons of related pictures. Everyday we have the same ( High Poly Head which is by far outdated by CoTR, for years ! ) replacers done 100 times. Everyday the same routine...

And i see this amazing project, trying to make a huge and badass Windhelm, and then the Draugrs in the comment section...mod is dead.

Instead of make useless mods, finish this project dammit !  Do some bikini warrior princess later for Talos's sake.

It's functional, as in the worldspace is fully fleshed out. All the new buildings are locked and the areas are unpopulated and not decorated though.

For everybody who is experiencing crashes while near Windhelm: this mod is not compatible with "Simplicity of Snow" by wSkeever. It probably just needs for someone to make a patch, but I am not sure because I have found the conflict by manually disabeling and enabling each of my mods.
I might try to open both of the mods in xEdit and make a patch, but if it is something exceeding my skills (which are very low), somebody else will have to do that, or Epic Windhelm Expansion will just have to be played without Simplicity of the Snow.

      I found the solution.
I checked the "Simplicity of Snow" mod page, and suprisingly it had a guide on how to patch it. So, accordingly to the mod page:

      • .Nifs with BSTriShape/NiTriShape nodes with no BSLightingShaderProperty will crash and will need a patch.

        • Delete these BSTriShape/NiTriShape nodes since they are invisible anyways.

I did not know which of the .nif files were the ones that I was supposed to delete, but somebody in the comments said that I could just check my Crash Logger after the crash and it would say which files are causing the crash. So I opened the Crash Logger and the files that caused the problem were: wharena01.nif (found in Meshes\architecture\leontristain\windhelm in Epic Windhelm Expansion folder) and ltrWHRochesterSockel01LargeBaseRoadHorizontal.nif (found in the same folder).
After I deleted both of them the game stopped crashing.
This probably does not fix all the problems however, as it is stated on the "Simplicity of Snow" mod page:

      • .Nifs with BSTriShape/NiTriShape nodes with NiAlphaProperty will not have snow cover.

        • If the NiAlphaProperty property was added by mistake on a mesh that doesn't actually have transparency, just remove the NiAlphaProperty property.
        • If there is actual transparency, we need to create a custom snow decal.

So there is still a possibility that some of the textures will not work the intended way (but will not cause your game to crash). I have not found anything like what's described above though, so just deleting the two files from the mod folder should do the trick.

Awesome thanks! I came back to modding after a little while off and was wondering what was causing the crash, but didn't feel like going through the elimination method. I saw the .Net Script Framework kept complaining about wharena01 but xedit kept showing no conflicts for that area, so I was left confused. Luckily I left a note for myself saying it was Simplicity of Snow and I just posted on their mod page sayin "this crashes EWE but I don't know why" hahaha

Thanks for sharing the fix! I never looked into it. I just switched to BDS when I noticed SoS was causing the crashes (SoS also causes visual bugs in Capital Windhelm, although that had a patch to fix some of them).

Probably never gonna happen, the mod is unfinished and hasn't been touched in like 4 years.

Why do all the Windhelm mods get abandoned before being finished? It is never any other city just Windhelm that everyone abandons. I wish this one was finished....

Windhelm is a very troublesome area for modding, any change made there haver the massive potential to cause CTD

As a prime example, this is giving me CTDs as soon as I exit Candlehearth Hall when using it on NVGO. Edit: Simplicity of Snow causes the issue, there is a conflict with the WHArena01.nif mesh from this mod, the fix is to delete Node67 in WHArena01.nif using NifSkope. I'm gonna post the fixed mesh tonight.

Capital Windhelm expansion works, but the meshes walls keep disappearing around the door (and in the courtyard) of The Palace of the Kings. Edit: this is an issue with my setup because it also happens with Epic Windhelm.

Honestly one of the best city overhauls I've ever seen. Especially the idea of overhauling the walls in order to make them walkable and truly sending forth that feeling of Windhelm being the city of Ysgramor which could not be so easily conquered was amazing.

All the new alleways and locations are also just beautiful even without the decorations, clutter or NPCs.

A shame that unfortunately it did not get to be completed. I hope that the author is alright because he did God's work over here.

If anyone is wondering if this mod is worth to download, it depends on you. The new areas and layout of the city are just gorgeous. The main problems are, just as stated in the description of the mod as well, there are no npcs to inhabit the new areas, they are not decorated and there are no interiors for the new buildings.

If this doesn't really bother you that much, then for sure give it a go. Honestly you can even just stick to the already inhabited parts of vanilla Windhelm and this mod would still be a huge improvement.

Seems super immersive to me. The Stormcloak army has to come from somewhere, and Windhelm has by far the most pro-Stormcloak population. It would make sense that hundreds or thousands of its people have taken up arms for the cause and left many of the houses abandoned.

I'm sad this mod never got the attention it deserved. It looks beautiful. I think I'll download and play with it purely for the aesthetics and wonderful city walls from the outside!

Wow!  This is just incredible.  I really like your layout for Windhelm.  It actually feels like a city.  Not a tiny village with massive walls and few NPCs.  If I ever start tinkering around in the Creative Kit, I will definitely consider trying my hand at helping you add content to this massive overhaul.  Thank you for providing the community with this great project.  I hope to see if finished (enough anyway) someday.
