After the Stormcloaks/Imperials occupy a hold, the entire guard uniform virtually ceases to exist - prompting a cascade of bland looking guards. Depending on play-style, the civil war can be concluded before the main quest finishes and the DLCs begin; thus throughout the play-through, eventually you would expect the loyalist towns to reinstate a loyal guard.
This mod restores the lost guard uniform to the occupying soldiers, rejuvenating the previously generic occupiers. The style for the Imperial guard is based off of the Solitude base game guards, and the Stormcloak guards are based off of the Windhelm guards.
Now if you share a similar distaste for bland occupied cities, you may be familiar with this type of mod. For the better part of my Skyrim experience, I have utilized two mods that restore the hold armors to each hold: Hold Guards Keep Armor uploaded by terrickson227 for Skyrim and Better Civil War Guards by Medizy for Skyrim Special Edition. I had previously been using TES5Edit & SSEEdit to tweak settings and fix minor bugs given their outdated natures, but recently I stumbled across a rather annoying bug involving the guards refusing to put on equipment. I failed to identify the root of the problem in both of these mods and decided to code my own version from scratch to fix bugs and adjust for preferences. I was able to find a simple vanilla fix, although I could not find a streamlined method of fixing the problem. This mod also fixes other problems with the previous mods - specifically the naming conventions, mismatch of guard equipment, and the non-respawning guards.
Here is my analysis of the bug - feel free to comment if you have more understanding than I:

This bug only occurs when the player has rendered in the occupying soldiers before installation of this mod. If the soldiers are rendered in before installation of this mod, their pre-mod items are kept. For some reason, likely because of the "keep inventory" setting being turned off in order to assign default outfits which enable this mod and pre-civil war Skyrim guards to function - guards/soldiers refuse to wear an item if they load in with a duplicate. Hence, the loaded Imperial soldiers maintain their pre-mod inventory but put on the Imperial boots and gauntlets because it is not duplicated - whereas the loaded Stormcloaks soldiers maintain their pre-mod inventory which includes fur boots and gauntlets and therefore refuse to wear them. Regardless, this bug causes problems in terms of inventory space for both Stormcloaks and Imperials - although the Stormcloak problem is visually worse. I also loaded a foreign save to test this mod where I saw guards wearing no items - likely because of some mod used by the person I got the save from; but nevertheless that could be a problem.
To ensure complete functionality, please run this mod prior to the start of Season Unending and the Civil War related quests.
If you want to use this in an existing playthrough after the start of Season Unending and the Civil War related quests, wait 10 days in a cave, and guards will have respawned fixed.
