About this mod

Individual patches to revert changes made by certain mods in specific areas to their vanilla values.

Addition by Subtraction (AbS)

I use JKs All in One and Dawn of Skyrim along with the JKs Skyrim_Dawn of Skyrim_Patch.  These mods affect multiple locations not only in the main world of Tamriel but also in the "child" worlds such as WhiterunWorld (the area you see inside of Whiterun when you enter the gate).  However, I wanted to use The Great City of Solitude because, well...it's awesome and SoldierofWar is the bomb.  When you install The Great City of Solitude along with JKs, Dawn of Skyrim and the JKs Dawn of Skyrim Patch it is just a mess.  It is trying to make changes from all 3 mods (4 actually as the JKs Dawn of Skyrim patch actually adds a few records).  You could go manually into the JKs mod and just start removing records but that is a baaaaaaaad idea.  The proper way to do this is to suppress the records from the mod you're wanting to override by, well, overriding those records with vanilla values.  So basically, think of this as removing a part of an all in one (AIO) mod so you can replace it with something else.

When I say vanilla values I mean the most recent value stored in the Bethesda files e.g. skyrim.esm, update.esm, dawnguard.esm, etc.

(In Settings -> UI Theme I use the "TabletDark" theme that is listed in the Dark theme selections)

In these patches only records listed under the Worldspace node are changed.

I went into SSEEdit and overrode the targeted mod's records with vanilla values in the patch.  I then fully disabled all records created by the mod.  Fully disabled means lowered to -30000z, initially disabled flag set and opposite state of enable parent which is set as the player.  Navmeshes that are created by the target mod are lowered to like -30000 z in the Creation Kit and finalized so their edge links are nullified and the fully vanilla navmesh records (not refinalized versions) are restored.  Landscape records are overriden with a vanilla value (or default values if there is no LAND record in a Bethesda file).  When creating a LAND record directly in the patch I noticed that it carries forward what is the most recent landscape record and so in other words it just carries forward for example the JKs record that we want to revert to vanilla.  In that case, if no landscape records exist in vanilla files via SSEEdit you can create a LAND record in in update.esm or some vanilla file (do not save changes made to said vanilla file!!) and then copy said record as an override into a patch (this just creates a base level record with essential zero values and thus 'default' values) and then change the formID so as to make it a record that is unique to the actual AbS patch you're using.

QUESTIONS

  1. Q: Are these patches ESP-FE (light)?
  2. A: Yes
  3. Q: After reading everything above I still don't get it...why would I want patches like this?
  4. A: Because you want to use JKs which affects multiple worlds but also want to use for example Enhanced Solitude or The Great City of Solitude or some other mod that modifies some specific area.
  5. Q: Are you going to make an fomod?
  6. A: Probably but not yet, I'll get a few made before I do that.
  7. Q: Are you going to make Open Cities versions?
  8. A: Most likely not, at least not at this point.  If you want a truly truly customizable game it is best to skip Open Cities as patches are required to make other mods work with Open Cities.  By not using Open Cities it is much easier to access mods that don't have Open Cities patches available.  I'm not aware of any mods that only work with Open Cities.
  9. Q: Do the records in these patches carry forward changes made by the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch (USSEP)?
  10. A: No.
    Q: Why not?
A: For some strange inexplicable reason some people don't use the USSEP.
Q: Well, why not make it required so to 'encourage' people to use it?
A: No one likes it when people make them do things.
Q: But mod authors know what we need and should encourage us to do the right thing.
    A: lol k
  11. Q: So are you gonna release a USSEP compliant version in the future?
  12. A: Probably not.
    Q: Why not?
A: It is too much to keep up with and it also encourages you to use SSEEdit to create a your own 'post bash changes' patch.
    Q: "Post bash changes"??
A: Yes, it's a patch that has a bashed patch as a master.
Q: Um what? Why would I do that?
A: A bashed patch is an automated patch that is great but isn't whatsoever an end all be all.  It will require a good bit of tweaking if you want it to be perfect.
Q: So in other words you mean I should change my bashed patch.
    A: No.
Q: That makes no sense. I don't think you understand how any of this works and you are a bad person don't you think?
A: lol Well firstly you may actually decide to 'rebash' your bashed patch at some point but not only that you may make changes that were never part of the bashed patch to begin with.  Once you make a change to a record that was contained in the bashed patch you would remove the bashed patch record and just keep the final version in your 'post bashed changes' patch.
Q: I know a guy in a discord channel that says you're an idiot and I shouldn't listen to you.
A: Good Lord you are the stereotypical Discord user huh? I don't like this game anymore and I'm moving on to the next question.
  13. Q: Is this mod Cutting Floor Room compatible?
  14. A: I don't know really.  I just looked and these patches are sorting so that they load after Cutting Room Floor (CRF) and thus would override changes made by CRF but I honestly can't specifically recall any CRF records that these change.  Regardless, when using the conflict resolution patching process in SSEEdit known as "the method" you will be able to carry forward any overriden CRF records.
  15. Q: Is this mod compatible with...
  16. A: I don't know but you should try it and let me know.  This isn't a mod, it's just a patch.  The records in these patches are only intended to 'undo' changes made by the target mod(s) that are named in the AbS file you're using.

CLEANING

Do not clean patches...ya just aren't supposed to. However, strangely enough these patches aren't affected by cleaning.  For you weirdos that are obsessive here are the cleaning reports:

REQUIREMENTS

The only requirements are the target mods that are named in the AbS patch filename.

LOAD ORDER/COMPATIBILITYThis is actually an important issue.  The patch obviously has to be after the target mod in your load order but that should happen automatically as the target mod is assigned as a 'master' file.  That being said, patches are funny things.  Patches regularly override other patches.  If a patch is stated as being for use along with another patch then that's great but otherwise it can just cause problems.  These patches are no different.  If you have a patch that modifies the same record and for example does so for JKs then it may actually undo the reversion of records being done by this patch.  Thankfully these patches are made specifically for a single child world and thus may safely be able to be loaded after those patches as well.  This will require you to either sort these patches to load after the relevant patches manually or to add custom sorting rules in LOOT or other custom sorting solution e.g. Vortex.

The first batch of files I'm working on will be for JKs and Dawn of Skyrim.  I will also be doing the JKs-Dawn of Skyrim patch.  To cut down on clutter in your load order I have combined and (will do so in future combo patches) all of the changes made in the individual JKs and Dawn of Skyrim changes into the AbS-JKs_Dawn of Skyrim_Patch-worldnamehere.esp

I'll be doing child worlds first before I even consider doing any Tamriel patches.

I hope these are useful!

PERMISSION

I really don't care what any of this is used for as long as it isn't illegal, immoral, unethical or unsafe.  No need to contact me.

NEW MODDERS

If you are a newbie to modding I recommend that you start reading The Tome of xEdit asap and start asking questions in the Nexusmods Discord Channel.  NOTE: FOR THE LOVE OF PETE BE PATIENT.  You don't know much yet and if you spam the crap out of people you will drive them crazy so callllllm down.  Remember that these users have lives of their own but they take their own personal time to answer questions for us newbies for free!!  So please, don't bump and spam the hell out of channels.  If you do it'll make them want to answer my questions less lol.  I actually would think it was cool if you tore into this mod and its patches.  It's a super duper duper simple (maybe, the simplest?) mod so don't feel like you're going to be opening the secrets of the universe.  Oooh ooh right and get Automation Tools asap.  READ THE DAMNED DOCUMENTATION.

MANUAL INSTALLATION

Just use Vortex.
