Zdo Immersive Death

Death overhaul mod for better role play experience.
What does this mod do:

  • your character is essential, instead of dying it jumps to bleed out state
  • after moving to bleed out you get three options
  • if you choose "Lie down" the same question will arise in 5 seconds
  • if "try to stand up" then you will rise at the same place with low HP and probably some injury.
While role playing you may assume that the enemies were either killed or gone and you have managed to stand up. If you got a follower - then he/she has likely helped you too.
  • in case of "try to crawl away" you will sneakily crawl away from the current spot.
Since you are in very bad shape you will likely drop/lose some equipment here. Or some of it may be taken by the killer if he is able to grab the things. You have an option to go back and take your stuff back.
  • for all dead player's characters there will be spawned graves at the spots of their death

By default the mod is disabled. You need to manually enabled it in each new game.
By default permadeath is enabled (Permadeath -> Chance is set to 100). If you want to disable permadeath set "Chance" to 0.

How does it work technically
  • On each new cell the respawn point (the place where you will "crawl away to" in case of being killed) is being regenerated.
Respawn points can be only in exterior.
  • When you decided to "crawl away" some items will be dropped on your death spot.
  • If your latest attacker is able to grab items then he/she will take those stuff. So to return the items back you need to kill that guy.
  • But if your latest attacker isn't interested in taking your staff (e.g., he is Mr. Dwemer Centurion) then the items will be dropped down to a sack.
  • Either way some injuries will be applied to your character.

Comparison with other mods

  • Ashes. Great mod. But the injuries which can be cured only by leveling up is not immersive. Also teleport to latest sleep point isn't really immersive as well because you may find yourself killed far away from your latest sleep point and the explanation how did you wake up at your last bed is kind of ugly.
  • Death Alternative - Your Money or Live. I've experienced a lot of issues when the player character stucked in bleedout state and some crashes.
  • Respawn - Death Overhaul. Cool mod too. But I feel some lack of immersion since it always moves player to some far-landed place in the hold. In my case it always was a Kynareth Temple even with turned on option for "holds".

FAQ
  • Does this mod delete your character if you've run out of lives?
    No.
  • Does it delete my save?
    No.
  • MCM?
    Yes, from v1.1.
  • Permadeath?
Yes, from v2.0. Enabled by default.
  • I don't want permadeath!
Set "Permadeath -> Chance" to 0.
  • ESL?
    Yes, from v1.1.
  • Is it script heavy?
In general I'd say "no". Basically it does three things:
    a) generates respawn marker on each cell update - pretty fast operation

    b) triggers popup on getting into bleeding out state. The only big operation here is dropping out your items since for each item its probability of being dropped is calculated individually based on the item's price.

    c) spawns graves at the places of previously dead player's characters. This theoretically should be the slowest part but I've done my best to make it as quick as possible.
