    - When my game crashes, I check crash logger vr and every time I get the same message ( Unhandled exception "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" at 0x7FFF86E1C945 VRFpsStabilizer.dll+00011CC5) am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

When the game crashes, SteamVR connection disappears. And since this mod constantly checks frametime values from that, it gives exception. So, that access violation is not the reason, it's the result of the crash. So, if you want to know what mod(s) is causing the problem, you'll have to disable/remove VR FPS Stabilizer temporarily.

i'm a bit confused in the FOMOD installer i select Low - with only LOD and later when i select the quality i only have Full without LOD options. i want to let Soft Shadows handle all the shadows and every single quality setting that isn't greyed out changes shadow settings.

Check the title of the options you are selecting.
"Low with only LOD" is an option of Location System Quality Settings.

"**** - Full without LOD" options are part of Regular Level settings. These include shadows. If you do not want Shadows manipulated, you need to choose "YES Without Levels (I don't want Levels but I want CPU stuff)" under Auto Config System/Enable AutoConfig screen.

This absolutely destroys any headroom left in your GPU and have no idea the intentions of this mod. At a locked 72hz, max res of the Quest 3 I get around 40-60% headroom on my GPU in Oculus Debug Performance tool. When enabling your recommended settings, that drops drastically to 10-20% with huge stutters everywhere making my game almost unplayable. Was tested with a fresh profile in MO2 with Script Extender and this enabled only.

It includes a fomod installer to choose settings according to your setup. After that, you need to adjust the configs according to your setup as well. If the configs you use force higher settings than the settings you originally used, you'd get worse gpu frametimes obviously.

have no idea the intentions of this mod
I suggest reading the description page first. It explains what the mod does and how it works.

Read it just fine, as fine as I've typed my message. Telling someone, that color is blue, when it's actually red just doesn't work like that. Thanks for your explanation, but I'm not going to use something that spikes my 4090 all over the place. I play with max settings using Skyrim's in-game settings. If your mods recommended settings in the description go beyond that, then I apologize. If not, something is wrong with this and I encourage others to do actual fact checking with a hardware performance analysis tool like Rivatuner Statistics Server, Virtual Desktop's overlay or Oculus Debug Performance monitor. You may very well be losing frames from this mod and not even know it. ^.^ I lost around 40% headroom when using this, if that is what it takes to "stabilize" my FPS, then we've the wrong definition of performance between each other.

As I explained it, you need to adjust its settings to your setup. I'm not sure how else I can be clear, but I will try.
You say you read the description page, but I wanna take some time and explain it further to you, because your comment showed me you didn't understand what it does.

This mod changes games ini settings on the fly. It does this according to the ini file that comes with the mod. This ini file (VRFpsStabilizer.ini) and the locational config file (VRFpsStabilizerLocation.ini) includes settings that will be changed on the fly.
If not, something is wrong with this and I encourage others to do actual fact checking with a hardware performance analysis tool like Rivatuner Statistics Server, Virtual Desktop's overlay or Oculus Debug Performance monitor. Instead of writing stuff like this, you could have read what I wrote in my comment.

I suggest checking the config files you installed and adjusting it according to what you want it to change.
This mod only does what the config files you choose while installing and adjusted are set to do.
As I said, "If the configs you use force higher settings than the settings you originally used, you'd get worse gpu frametimes". That's why I created a fomod installer so that you can choose the config that's best for you. If what you choose is still not the best for you, you can adjust it further. I do that all the time.

I play with max settings using Skyrim's in-game settings. If your mods recommended settings in the description go beyond that, then I apologize.
I don't use in-game settings. I suggest using a tool like Bilago's SkyrimVR Configuration tool to adjust your settings. Almost everyone is doing that, because in game settings are very low. Recommended settings to be used with the game are usually higher.

You mention using tools etc. So you are familiar with tools. This mod is just another tool to use. It's not a plug and play mod.
As written in the description page: Note that this is an advanced mod which requires knowledge in game ini settings, frametime etc. I suggest reading some guides first if you need info about ini settings.

This includes checking what settings you use using Bilago's tool and then adjusting this mod's configs.

In your case, you already have very good headroom. You mention you have 4090 and play the game at 72fps max, so that's your target. That means, you don't need this mod most of the time. So I'm guessing you are only having issues in some locations in Skyrim. My suggestion is choosing location system and adjusting VRFpsStabilizerLocation.ini file so that you only reduce the settings in those bad locations. Make sure you adjust the settings in VRFpsStabilizerLocation.ini file so that your current game ini settings are preserved and only reduced in bad locations. If you need any help understanding how that config file works, let me know.

As for VRFpsStabilizer.ini, this is mainly for CPU late start prevention if you are using location system. For CPU Late Start prevention, object and actor lod fade values can be set for min and max values to be selected according to cpu late start. There is also city based modifiers.
Make sure to set MinfLODFadeOutMultActors, MaxfLODFadeOutMultActors, MinfLODFadeOutMultObjects, MaxfLODFadeOutMultObjects here according to what you use, otherwise if the default values that come with the config files are higher than the ones you originally used, then you'd get the same issue again.

If you want help, all you need is to ask, and I'm happy to help.

Thank you for the very detailed comment but I assure you I've over 15 years experience modding Bethesda games, as well as my own video with over 100,000 views on YouTube about how to fix frametimes in New Vegas using Special K and DXVK Vukan, along with being familiar with frametimes and Rivatuner which I clearly explained in my comment that I do so I am well versed in this. Again, I encourage others to do their own research and monitor their performance with this mod and come to their own conclusion. It is as simple as that. In my case, it drug my GPU into the ground which doesn't happen with even the highest ENBs, using the default recommended settings in your description and I was clearly able to monitor that using real time statistics tools.

Default recommended settings mean nothing. I cannot create 100 settings for the fomod installer that would work for everyone.

I clearly explained how to use this mod spending half an hour last night writing that comment to you, making myself sleep deprived when I desperately needed it. What a waste.

At this point I'm inclined to think you are a troll, I apologize if you are not, but you are writing the same thing after that much explanation, not even writing which settings you used. You are not trying to get help, you are trying to attack because of your "bad" experience, simple as that.
In my case, it drug my GPU into the ground
Your comment is similar to someone commenting on a saw they bought online and saying it cut your hand. No, you cut your own hand with the saw. This mod cannot drag your GPU into the ground unless you want it to.
It needs to be adjusted for each mod list you use. I keep adjusting its config files myself all the time for my gpu frametime values. This is a tool to do that. And you can do it for each location in skyrim separately.

The problem with Skyrim is that it varies in performance in different locations. The location system in this mod helps solve that by letting you use different settings in different locations.

Blindly installing this mod and expecting it to give you more performance is not what this mod is made for. I suggest reading the description page and the comments I wrote in this thread again to understand what this mod does.

If you fail, I suggest reading again and again. I'm gonna give you some time to read instead of writing.

When I go to install the mod with Vortex, I get a popup for me to choose which "Location System Quality Setting" I want to use.

I have no idea what any of this means. Could someone please help me here?

It's a fomod installer. It includes a description for every setting in there.

If you don't know what to choose, you can refer to my recommended settings in the description page.

Hello, could you please give some guidance on what the frametime setting should be, if we plan to use reprojection permanently?

In my case, Quest 2 Virtual Desktop SSW 45/90, for example.

Do we still configure the ini for 90fps (~9ms) regardless?  Or will the stabilizer think that I'm only getting 45fps and be locked to the lowest detail level?  Should I double the frametime targets? (But that would push it past your recommended limit of 11.)

Would this be a common enough question to add a section to your mod documentation?

You need to adjust the configs according to the fps you will get. So if you want 45, I suggest adjusting for 45 fps. SSW etc. doesn't change the fact that your frametime values are doubling. SSW just changes how you feel it. It doesn't change your real fps.

FOMOD installer already includes 45 fps options.

When in doubt, check your gpu frametime values. 1000/frametime gives your real fps.

    Hi Shizoif:
this instrustion "And enable TreeLODReferenceCaching back in its ini."
I couldnt find TreeLODReferenceCaching in any ini file, could you give a little more detail?
    Thanks!

Edit: Never mind, the ini is in another mod called "engine fix VR". Should read more closely me!

Hi. I was looking into a ways to remedy grass mods tendency to have very inconsistent grass density (and performance) in different regions with same iMinGrassSize setting. It seems like this can be accomplished with this mod, but so far I was unsuccessful. It did not appear to have any effect with Location system. With Level System game CTD any time I enter an outdoor area.

"iMinGrassSize:Grass = X" is a line that I added, with X changing linearly depending on Level. Crash log, at least to my eye, is inconclusive.

iMinGrassSize setting doesn't get applied by the game unless the grass is refreshed unfortunately. So it's not possible to use that in the mod.

This is, indeed, unfortunate. This line in change log lead me to believe this setting is supported:
Added support for additional ini settings like fShadowDistance, fInteriorShadowDistance, iShadowMapResolution, bTreesReceiveShadows, iMinGrassSize for levels
But I might have misinterpreted it. I imagine there is also no way to “refresh” grass in game automatically, like with console command, right?

Yes, I added support for it, but it requires grass refresh.
tg console command toggles grass. Doing that twice would refresh the grass, but that would be visible, so I don't recommend it.

    hi Shizof

i have another small problem with fireballs' explosions
all this time i was wondering why can't see the explosion in the distance and after i got help from the good people in reddit i found that fps stabilizer causing it but i have no idea why and what setting i need to change to fix it

    can you please?!

You need to first find out changing which ini setting causes distant explosions to not appear for you. And then after finding it, you can adjust VRFpsStabilizer.ini accordingly.
Like for example, if reducing fLODFadeOutMultObjects setting causes it, you can set a higher MinfLODFadeOutMultObjects setting in the ini.
I use MinfLODFadeOutMultObjects = 10 and MaxfLODFadeOutMultObjects = 14 myself with a 4090 and 13900k. You just need to configure the mod according to your setup and preferences.

Sadly not even this mod helped to alleviate my abysmal CPU late start issue, can somebody please explain what it even means and what causes it, even when the CPU is not under full load? I've seen people's steamvr graphs for skyrim, and they usually get none at all, mine takes always half of the graph (like in the screen of this mod), and thats even right after launch on the "press any key" screen. Worst case is in Riften of course, where the late start completely takes over:

i've been using this for awhile now but i havent really noticed any difference in fps, maybe i did something wrong or im just getting the wrong idea. i thought this mod locks your game at a certain fps (my case i locked it to 40 and reproject it at 80) and reprojected it constantly, is there a way to leave reprojection on ALL the time? (sorry if this is bad my english isnt great)

This mod doesn't lock your game at a certain fps.

It tries to keep your fps at target levels by changing ini settings on the fly.
