Version 1.7.5
MCM menus not showing up: this issue has been fixed. My deepest apologies to everyone who has had trouble with MCM menus not showing up and thanks to the contributors in the comments who pointed this out. This mod and the Spell Composing mod were causing this. This issue has been fixed in both mods, so please make sure to update the two mods to their latest versions.
Updated for Spell Research v2.2.3: The correction in the function "DecomposeItems" "if(RankAux > 5) [...]" has been copied over to the _SR_Quest script. Also, the correction for analyzing spells has been copied over from the UI Extensions Patch in the _SR_Quest script - kudos to ManEatingSalmon
Unintentional overrides to the Spell Research base mod have been removed, causing explosion or blinding effects not to go off. This fix was already included in the Convenience Add-On mod - kudos to Voeille
Experience Book not showing up: I reworked the Experience Book implementation to make it more stable and to avoid that the Experience Book is not showing up.
Additional options for MCM menu:
- Option whether a Research Journal is required to display the Experience Book
- Option to configure whether it should be possible to display the Experience Book while sneaking / running / in combat / when other menus are open
- Lock Aspect Ratio: Width and height can now be changed simultaneously
The patch for Nezerroth's Enhanced Graphics for Spell Research Experience Book mod is no longer required and has been moved to the Old Files section. Just load the Enhanced Graphics mod after the Experience Book and then the look automatically changes.
Please note that the mod is not packed into a .bsa archive. I did not get the textures to load properly when packing them into the .bsa archive. Therefore the mod contains only loose files.
Please note that the available Patch Collections for Spell Research which cover the Experience Book may break with the new version of this mod until they are updated. The authors have been informed.

Version 1.7
I've just uploaded a new version 1.7, which should finally fix the issue that the Experience Book is not showing up.
Instead of using a Property to reference the Experience Book, I'm now using SKSE's SendModEvents, which should work much better.
I also tested creating a save with version 1.6 and then upgrading the mod to version 1.7 and it worked without corrupting the save and the Experience Book showing up as expected. Back up your saves just in case, though.
Let me know if there are still issues or if this version is now working for you.
Note: the cursor not showing up is still an issue. If you're a mod creator and you know a way to fix this, please drop me a message.
Version 1.6
The Experience Book widget is now a proper HUD / UI Menu and not abusing the message box UI anymore
The Experience Book is now displayed and responds much quicker (thanks to SKSE's FormList.ToArray() functionality)
If you are using this mod in your current playthrough, make sure to backup your saves before upgrading to version 1.6
The popup message that was visible before the Experience Book was shown, has been removed as it was preventing the Book from being re-opened later
The new version will most likely break the Experience Book patch from the Spell Research - Convenience Add-On mod and the Enhanced Graphics for Spell Research Experience Book mod, until updated versions of these patches will be released. Please load the Experience Book after the Convenience Add-on in the meantime.
KNOWN ISSUE: the Mouse Cursor is not shown when the Experience Book is displayed, but keyboard and gamepad keys should be work ing correctly. If a modder can point me to a solution on how to make the cursor visible, I'd highly appreciate that
KNOWN ISSUE: When you press Escape to close the Experience Book, the system menu is shown. I'm not sure if this can be prevented, as Escape is a standard keybinding. You can use Tab to close the Experience Book alternatively
Tested with Skyrim SSE v1.5.97.0.8, SKSE64 v2.0.19 rel 6, SkyUI 5.2 and Spell Research 2.2.2.
