About this mod

Makes the Night Mother into an esoteric concept and consequently makes Cicero even more insane.

The Night Mother is ICKY.

Yeah, you heard me. She's icky. Gross. Disgusting. I mean, she's a mummified corpse, so she's supposed to be but... ugh. To make matters worse, you have to crawl into her coffin and give her a reach-around* to do the Dark Brotherhood quests. Now there are... *ahem*... other Night Mother replacers out there, for all you budding necrophiliacs, but I wanted to make an immersive mod that also makes the DB questline much less unpleasant... by removing her corporeal vessel altogether!

This mod is immersive!
Yeah, that's right! Believe it or not, my Night Mother replacer is more immersive than vanilla Skyrim's Night Mother. During the late 3rd Era, the Night Mother's body lay in a crypt in Cyrodiil before a fiasco involving the Rite of Purification and a betrayal from within the Black Hand severely limited the extent of Sithis worship in Cyrodiil. When the Grand Champion gazes upon the Night Mother's remains, she is a skeleton, surrounded by the skeletons of her children she sacrificed to Sithis.

WHO GAVE HER SKIN ON THE WAY TO SKYRIM?!
I mean, we know that Cicero takes great enjoyment in the preservation of the Night Mother, but I haven't the faintest idea as to WHY she suddenly has skin again. No amount of oil and/or preservatives will make a skeleton re-grow flesh. Believe me, I've tried.

By the mid Fourth Era, the already-decrepit remains of the Night Mother would've been pulverized in transit via cart. By the time the coffin arrived at the Falkreath Sanctuary, it would be full of bone dust at best. So why the hell would there be a fleshy beef jerky woman?

A proper bride to Sithis!
My mod makes her a true "bride of Sithis" by giving her a form not unlike the Dread Father's.

"But Squidfest, Sithis is formless!"

EXACTLY! Now his bride has shed the need for a form but utilizes the coffin as an anchor point by which to commune with the corporeal world. Her voice still echoes from within but she is nowhere to be found. Eerie, no?

Okay, fine, I'll level with you. I don't like the idea of getting that intimate with a corpse and therefore I wanted to make it less egregious. I was going to turn her into a Gourd as I felt it'd make sense for Cicero to have mistaken the Night Mother for a Gourd, but I couldn't find the .nif file and chose a tomato instead. However, the Night Mother's anchor point is actually somewhere beneath the coffin, and as it so happens the coffin's base is thicker than a tomato. The result? An empty, haunted coffin. Still creepy, but much more sanitary.
