    If you don't want to use MCM menu and the SkyUI dependancy, simply delete the MCM quest with SSEdit. Global variables are still there you can mod yourself by hand.

    Thank you so much for this mod. I used a similar one in Oldrim and desperately needed something like this for SE. I got used to strafing to move left and right in games so I always change those keybindings. Unfortunately, that means I change my activation key and Skyrim doesn' t appreciate that when it comes to taking books. If I want to take books (and I often do thanks to Legacy of the Dragonborn), I have to go into my controls and change them back just to pick up a single thing. Frustrating. This has saved me. Much endorse!

    If I'm using NMM what file do I need, esp or esl?

      esl will do, it will save you an esp slot from ff mod limit. but idk if it will be recognized by nmm

    idk what causes this: the read string appear as "read", not "Read". its a bit annoying tbh.

    I'd really like to use this mod, but I've got a conflict with iActivate. I use that mod for a more immersive experience...it takes away the activate messages (such as "Talk" or "Open" when you hover over an appropriate person/item), and replaces the Steal message with a red dashed line. However, this mod overwrites that setting when it comes to books. I always see Take, Steal, or Read when I hover over a book instead of the iActivate settings.

    Is there any way to fix this?

      if you are looking for the features this mod provides, and this mod overwrite the other i don't see the problem in this.

      The features work just fine. I like the features. But I don't want iActivate's "Activate" messages ovewritten.

      You would have to go into this mod to manually modify the text to match your iActivate settings.

      I have tried loading it before and after, no change.

      Everlive appears to be correct. After taking a look at things, it looks like you have these particular responses hard-coded into the aaafollowloadscriptsteal script. As things are now, I believe the only way to fix this is to manually change these responses to match my choices in iActivate and recompile the script.

      I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with! I've been trying to "learn as I go" with modding in the last 5 months, and I'm always eager to learn more. If you are able to make this change, I hope to compare the old files with the new, to see how you did it! :)

      Experimental iActivate conflict solution released. For what i could see, activate the fix in PUBS MCM and then activate your Customization in iActivate MCM. Let me know about it.
      Edit: Just tried, it works!

      I'm sorry, but it doesn't appear to work.

      I did my tests in Hod and Gerdur's home in Riverwood. There's a bed with a nightstand that has a book on it (Of Fjori and Holgeir) that should give you a stealing notification when you hover the cursor over it. (At least in my game, I have a mod installed that lowers the maximum value of what people are willing to let you take from their homes.) There is another book beside the other bed in the room (Olaf and the Dragon) that should not give you a steal notification.

      No options checked: Fjori book first shows "Take", then if I move the cursor away and back again, it shows "Steal". In both cases, it uses the default game's method of notification, not iActivate's. If I move the cursor off and back on, it still shows Steal, but if some time passes (I'm not exactly sure what the criteria are to make this happen) it reverts back to "Take" for the initial hover, than back to Steal. Olaf book always shows "Take".

      Only first option checked (Always Pick Up Books): Behaviour is identical to the above, whether my hands are drawn or not.
      Only last option checked (iActivate Patch): Both books always show "Take", never "Steal". Again, it does not use iActivate's notification method.

      At least once, the Olaf book was showing "Steal" instead of "Take". I haven't been able to reproduce this again however.

      Sorry this wasn't able to work. I appreciate all your effort, but perhaps this is just a lost cause. :(

      Nope. It works dude.
      I've installed iActivate just for this so i'm 100% sure.
      You can apply the patch in two way.
      1- Installing first PUBS activate the option, save, INSTALL iActivate.
      2- iActivate already installed: First Activate PUBS patch, then switch to iActivate MCM disable and enable the interested lable "take" "steal" "read" now should work!

      Okay, I followed your instructions and you're right I did get it to work, almost completely!
      For some reason, it never shows the "Steal" indicator for the books...every book shows as okay to take. I thought it might. A couple of times I managed to do some sort of combination (I have no idea what) to get it to show "Steal", but when I do, it doesn't show the iActivate indicator, it shows the default "Steal".

      I tried this with no mods activated except for "Pick Up Books", "iActivate", "SkyUI", and SKSE64.

      That is i suppose an iActivate issue, because my patch disables completely interferences on text labeling. I think you should overwrite on the standard steal label the one that you prefer on the menu on the right of iActivate, now i can't quite remember. I'm sure you can find the solution.

      You could use "BlockSteal lite - Prevents accidentally pick up" , that way you wont pick up stealable items unless you're sneaking.

    Please could you add compatibility with https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/20521 ? With both mods and the MCM option to pick up books enabled, spell tomes still get read when being activated.

    Hi,

    Some times I want to read directly (journals, notes ..etc). Is there a way to read it directly as in vanilla ?

    I tried Shift + E and Ctrl + E but it always pick up the note/journal in my inventory. May be this feature doesnt exist, I just want to know

    Thank you! Using the Esp version, along with True Scholar and Better Spell Learning. It works perfectly so far and adds immersion for my mage/bard/wandering scholar character!

    I have to be missing something. Both the last version of this mod and this version did/do nothing. Installed fine in mod organizer and don't show any conflicts. Go to pick up a book and it just goes normally, no quick pick up, regardless if sneaking or not. Is there some special you have to do? The directions seem to imply you should always pick up books unless you use 'R'.

      I am in the same boat. This mod seems to work for some books and not others.
      It worked for the skill book at the bandit camp a bit north from the Helgan tutorial exit but it's not working for the Thief book just past the puzzle gate in Bleak Falls Barrow. No matter what I do I always read the book first. I don't really use a lot of mods but I guess one of them could be conflicting. Here's my LO.

      Did you installed ONLY the .esl version or ONLY the .esp? Is very difficult that this mod will conflict with any other. Please be aware that having your weapon drawn (using "R") will put you in read only. Did you used LOOT to handle load order?
