So I messaged UberSmaug because I was able to make a black and grey version successfully (waiting for a response to send Uber the variant pack). In the event that Uber may be away and not respond, I decided to lay out the steps I took to change the colors for those that would like to, so here you go:
Step One, download the DIY .PSD files from the "files" page of the BattleMage Armor
Step Two, download GIMP and GIMP DDS plugin and install GIMP
Step Three, extract the GIMP .DDS plugin and drag dds.exe to your gimp plugins folder, (C: > Program Files > GIMP 2 > lib > gimp > 2.0 > plug-ins)
Step Four, open DIY .PSD files in GIMP
Step Five, edit colors to your liking
Step Six, "export as" .DDS file for all edits (I suggest making a folder for them called "BattleMage", also each file should have "_D" after it, example: "BattleMageArmor_D", "BattlemageRobes_D", "Gloves_D", "Boot_D", "Hood_D", without those names it probably won't work)
Step Seven, drop this new folder into your Armor folder in Textures (the file pathway will be: C: > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Skyrim Special Edition > Data > Textures > Armor > BattleMage)... so basically inside your "Armor" folder is where you drop the "BattleMage" folder and inside that folder should be all your .DDS files.
(If you do not have the file path above) Step Seven and a half, if you do not have the folders above then make them ( though you should have everything up to textures if I'm not mistaken)
To make a black and grey version, simply adjust the saturation to 0 and you are done haha. Also, if you are wondering, it will match the Black Mage Armor mod fairly nicely as well.
Thanks for step by step guide, I hope this helps make things more clear to GIMP users.
I do still recommend using Photoshop to edit if you have the means, I know not everyone does(I believe you can still get a free 30 day trial). Everything is layered so you change the color of individual parts without having to do painstaking masking, I still have not seen anyone take full advantage of that yet...
Yeah I had used Photoshop but only wanted black and gray so I merged the layers to make it easier. I might mess around in the future to change individual pieces to better match other things such as dragon priest masks
Love this armor, made a purple variant with the DIY pack. Unfortunately the last comment prior to this one is from 2019 so seems all activity on this mod is dead... Guess I'll keep my purple to myself.
its tragic this mod hasnt been updated since 2016 and still works perfectly but I have had armor mods that haven't been updated since 2019 and they crash my game..its even more tragic no one has heard from this person..i hope they come back :( good armor mods for both genders are hard to come by..especially high-quality ones....
Tried to make a black/grey version following the instructions...and failed. Think I'll use the red variant. P.S. noticed the red doesn't have a BattleMageArmor_D file.
