There is a known conflict with the mod Immersive Wenches.  You will not be able to get the quest to perform at taverns.  Either load this mod after Immersive Wenches, or just do without playing at inns for money and free room.  (Or create a patch.  If you do, please let me know, and I will link to it from the description.)

There is a known conflict with any mod that modifies Viarmo.  This can include NPC overhauls, Bard college overhauls, etc.  You will not get his special dialogue or the ability to purchase songbooks.  Either load this mod after the conflicting mod(s), or play BaB without those features.  (Or create a patch.  If you do, please let me know, and I will link to it from the description.)

If you have questions, you might want to check the Discussion forums on the Steam page for the mod (just above the Comments section).  You don't have to use the Steam version of the game to view those forums.

For example, there is an extensive thread there on users helping other users set up the custom songbook.

Do we put the custom songs in "Data\Sound" or "Data\Sound\FX\Mus\Bard\Custom" and do we name them "#.xwm" or "Custom0#.xwm"? The MCM and the description page say different things.  I am also assuming that the .xwm is the file extension and not part of the name.  It would be weird if it were 1.xwm.xwm or Custom01.xwm.xwm.

I cannot get the custom songbook to work no matter what.  I am currently trying all of the possible combinations, but I would like to know which one is correct so that I have a starting point for diagnosing my problem.

I do know that you have to read the songbook from Viarmo and have the custom songbook enabled in the MCM.

Nevermind... It is working now, for a reason that is beyond me.  I'm going to leave this up since the MCM and the description page do say different things.  It should be in Data\Sound, and be named 1.xwm, 2.xwm etc.

Edit: It is now a few weeks later.  For literally no reason at all this advice stopped working for me and now the other naming and file path is what works. So... I don't know.  If you have issues do both?

Not sure how this works I ask inn keeper to perform, play a song and nothing happens…. Can you not perform at inns until you go to the bards college?

Isn't there a mod to fix the music instruments not looking right?

Looking forward to getting stuck in with a new alternate start where I can begin as a traveling Bard that eventually gets dragged into Dragon business.  >:)

Will there be any problems if I use it with Ordinator?  (it has skill perks that involve instruments).  Will a patch be necessary for this mod and Ordinator to work?

Yes I have issues with this mod now - innkeepers start the 'play at inn' quest and it no longer completes.

it is related to the way a char both player and npc will random stop playing if that happens the tick needed to complete the play in any inn will break as it is tied to the length of the song being played for example i have a custom one that is exactly 120secs long and if the game does anything to end the playing of it before it reaches the end of its full time the quest auto fails or wont trigger if this keeps happening to you get the mod that has npcs not auto talk to your char and if using followers as other bards playing with you use one of the follower mods that allows you to turn off them auto relaxing as this is forced triggered after them being idle for more than 20 secs when indoors and it can cause them to force you out of playing when they try to talk to you

Having the same issue.  I admit it does seem to appear that the songs are cutting off earlier than they should.  Anyone know of a fix?

      Thanks!

So I have this issue with the self taught songs. Doesn't seem to be anything disrupting me, just that perhaps those songs aren't long enough. Are there longer versions?

I just updated my game to the anniversary edition and there isn't an option at inkeepers anymore to perform in inns. Is there an update or patch for this?

resort your load order this has been moved by the added items and needs to be sorted again to ensure it is able to load when it needs to also depending on if you set it up right you may not be able to due to not having done the going to bards collage to get the books and record book to allow it this mod is keyed to look for those before allowing you to play one way to get around this is with the mcm addon for this and set it all up as you having everything needed at the start of your time playing this forces the game to give you the needed items and thus will fix the issues related to your char not being allowed to play for the tavern

I don't like it that my character's mouth doesn't move as I sing. Is there a patch or mod somewhere that fixes this?

Thank you for this mod. An absolute must have for any playthrough.

I was wondering how I might be able to change the flute music with my own custom bass lines? See Im using https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/104007?tab=description which changes flute animations with bass (lute) animations. The animations work great but the obvoius hinder is bass sounds like flute.

Would I need to edit it that through CC?

You could do this as a separate mod.  It's been a long time, but I think the basic flute songs are in the game and not added by this mod.  I could be wrong.  It's been years since I touched the music files.

      Some pointers on getting started:

      - Unpack the BSA for this mod to make them loose files.  Then look through the data folder structure to see where the music is.  Compare this to the extracted files for the base game.  You'll want to extract all the base game and DLC bsa files if you're going to be modding.

      - Next convert the audio files you prefer to use into xwm format.  Then use those files to replace the flute songs, either in the base game files or in this mod's files.

      - If everything works, pack your files into a bsa to share or to keep things tidy for your own installation.

      - Lastly, you may need to tweak the lengths (in seconds) of the songs that are set in this mod if you want the animation time to line up.

If you need help with any of the above, there are two good places to go that I used to go to when I was modding skyrim. One is the modders' forum here on Nexus.  It used to be pretty active with some very helpful people who can explain things or point you to resources.  Second, you can try the skyrim mods reddit.  I'm less familiar with it, but may be worth a shot.

Good luck, and please share here on Nexus if you figure it out.

Hey thanks for the quick response and suggestions.
I'll look into it this weekend. I havent done more than port a LE mod to SE with CC but I'm ready for the challenge.
If I do manage you'll be the first to know ;)

So I finally got around to it and I think Ive figured it out. The vanilla bard songs (flute lute and drum) are actually under the music directory section under fx in creation kit. I was required to change each song/fx twice. Once for vanilla bards and again to be able to play it through BaB.

I installed BAE archiver or whatever and managed to unpack bsa. The problem was repacking I still have no idea. Any tutorials or links with this would be helpful.

What I did was create a sound folder in my Skyrim data folder and set the directory through creation kit. I don't want to share for 2 reasons.
1.) I tried recording my own basslines and they came out bad lol. So eventually I hope to have better recordings. For now I used some sweet bass riffs from YouTube and don't want to deal with a copywrite infringement
2.) I don't want to release something until I figure out the whole bsa repacking process.

Either way I appreciate your guidance and your mods

The instructions for importing custom songs on the mod page did not work. What worked for me is putting the .xwm files in this folder path:
    Data/Sound/Fx/Mus/Bard/Custom

In the "Custom" folder, name the .xwm files:
    Custom01
    Custom02
    Custom03
    all the way to 09.

    Hope this helps.
