This would be great if the thing to activate the race menu were the torch that the player is looking at when you first create the character. There's not enough lighting by the shrine of Mara.

Guessing it doesn't really work as intended since the author doesn't reply? I just 'showracemenu' to make a new character after my 20 minutes of setting up my crap in the MCM.
nope, it does NOT! you quit the game and hit START NEW GAME and MCM prefs are NOT saved as advertised. This just puts a showracemenu activator in front of you.
Edit: 2022 - This mod is almost redundant as there is now MCM helper. I mean to we really need this mod these days? This mod maker did a good job but still. I moved on to MCM Helper instead.
@justcallemedots I think you have misunderstood the wording on the description page. You make a generic "Prisoner" character, set up all your MCMs as you want, then save your game. Now you can load that generic character up any time, activate the shrine added by this mod and change your generic character into whichever character you want to play with. That is the purpose of this mod - all it does is provide a more immersive way to open up racemenu without opening the console and typing "showracemenu".
Unfortunately, since the plugin can't be flagged as ESPFE without compacting form IDs, I'm not going to have it take up a space in my load order just for the convenience of not having to open the console, but it definitely does work as intended.
I'm just going to add it's a nice attempt, I like what you are doing here, but contemplating stuff like this is really more migraine than matter. What I mean to say is I'm trying to figure out if this really matters since "pre-registration" of mods, mcm settings is tossed when LO, dependencies, changes, etc. (mostly nullifying this utility while providing a false sense of security). Beneath that I mean this unfortunately can potentially have a seriously detrimental impact after several adjustments + loading the same saved game template with old mcm registered data.
Am using Abandoned Prison Tweaks Start with base gender/race selection, let MCMs load, then with APT there is a mirror which I use after launching new beginnings scenario. Just find myself a quiet corner and tick through settings. A total PITA one must agree but ye Olde MCM doesn't seem to play out right either. So here I am with the best solution I've found, and wondering which solution eludes the swarming bugs over time best.
Although MCM helper exists, it cannot cover every single little mod out there, glad I found this workaround. Literally saving me hours upon hours of fine tuning. Happy to not be using console command, cause it can sometimes break your game.
So glad I found this mod. But just a suggestion to the author or any mod creators using this perhaps you could make the Activator be a mirror or perhaps make Mara herself activate the race menu when you start talking to her? Like have the racemenu open up as soon as she says "how would you like to begin your new life" or perhaps a simpler solution would put the "create character" activator on the bowl she is holding and make it so you have to do that before talking to her.
