A little heads up to people who might have a slightly modded game that isn't 100% vanilla but pretty close to vanilla.
I used this mod in one of my recent full playthroughs, and I will be honest, I do have a few other mods that fix little behind the scene things (not USSEP nor touching armor as far as I know) so I used the this mods Vanilla file, however, halfway through my playthrough I noticed my armor never leveled up. I even tested it on a giant, and anything related to block/armor leveling was not working. The only way I was able to level up was if i was wearing a helmet while taking the full hit from a giant, on Legendary difficulty and even then I needed several hits to gain a single level, at around level 15 in Armor.
Block/Armor leveling only worked if a Helmet was equipped and at a severe reduced rate as well.
To put things in perspective, I had One Handed, Block and Restoration all in 100, while my armor rating was still at 20.
After removing the mod, things worked as intended. I haven't done enough testing to say if it is a mod or not that affected this mod, or if the Circlet/Helmet bug was the culprit, or many other things, but as far I know, this was the only mod to affect armors in my list and it either reduced severally my leveling of armor or outright removed it.
Please take what I say with a grain of salt since once again, I haven't done enough testing to come to conclusion as to what the reason was (for as far as I know it could have been Skyrim simply catching a bug).
You can still use it if you don't/aren't bothered by the slower armor leveling, and could still use Console Commands to level yourself up if worse comes to worse.
There is also Equipment Toggle mod which I used to replace this mod instead: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/44097?tab=files
Do perks like deft movement and matching set also not require a helmet anymore? The descriptions still mention either a full set or a helmet so I am curious if I can use them or not without wearing a helmet.
Thank you for the mod. It works exactly as it says. Now I can finally put on a cloth Hood while it's raining (Frostfall) with my light Armor without breaking my Perks!
Thank you, was looking for a helm-requirement removal mod that didn't break if you wore a helmet. I wear light, but prefer the look of the iron helmet, besides not breaking the perk if wearing a mis-matched dragon priest mask :D
And, no, making the helmet invisible isn't what I'd call a "fix" for perks breaking.

It works just as described. Even works with mods that create new armor sets with more than 4 pieces of armor.
Levelling up the heavy/light armor skill level up normally.
Matching Set perk-fix
