Force Lightning i mean Electric Kamehameha i mean Lightning Storm is a fun spell except, to the surprise of no one, Bethesda apparently never bothered to actually try using it themselves: it has its own "pre-cast" hand-wavy animations like all channeled spells before it actually starts firing, which is fine, EXCEPT the animator apparently never actually does any combat because it makes your crosshair flail all over the place. Which is just brilliant for a pinpoint-tiny effect you need to keep on target.

sooooo tl;dr any way to have the "precast" keep the crosshair where I &*()$?!!ing put it?
Very nice for anyone who isn't ready to install a complete magic overhaul (or can't for system limitations, or just doesn't want to :D ).
I changed mine to 1.5 seconds for personal preference. It is ludicrously easy to do so. Go into xEdit and you will see maybe a dozen lines for SPEL records. Each one has a field called "Concentration Time" and set to 1 second. Change it to anything you like. Any casting bar mods you have will automatically be in sync with whatever time you choose so you don't have to worry about that.
I made one additional change in my own copy: for the Lightning Storm magic effect (that's the MGEF record, not the SPEL record), i deleted the "image space modifier" entry that is what makes the screen fill with purple lightning in your face that you can't see your &*(_$?!! target through and now you know why i removed it ;)
Endorsed!
PS. Do NOT remove or change the "manual calc" flag, or everything will go Horribly Wrong (tm)
Very nice but maybe some people would prefer something between the vanilla 5 second cast and your 1 second wich may feel too overpowered Something like 2.5 or 3 seconds as an optional file?
The base cast time of all Master Rank spells is already 3 seconds in vanilla Skyrim. I could make a 1.5 or 2 second version if so requested but 3 seconds would just be achieved by deleting the mod entirely.
Considering you're rooted to the spot while casting, and anyone who sneezes in your general direction will interrupt the spell completely, I'd say there's nothing OP about 1 seconds. It's supposed to be a MASTER SPELL, yeah?
Update: eating my words a little, see my post. After faffing about 1 second seemed a bit abrupt, i settled on 1.5 and left Lightning Kamehameha as the author set it because it's tied to the "Concentration archtype" animation anyway.
Anyone who comes along and finds this, not wanting to use the unofficial patch is the modding equivalent of being an anti-vaxxer. Get the damn patch. If you have doubts, crack it open in xEdit and look at not only HOW MANY things it fixes, but how FKN STUPID many of those errors were. Then slap your forehead and realize how many broken things were in your games until now that didn't work and you just thought you were doing it wrong.
Thanks for this! I think Bethesda may have gone too far worrying that the master spells would be unbalanced. You can never use them because you never have enough time to cast them when you really need them the most.
This mod doesn't affect any Master level spell added by a mod so while it wouldn't lower the cast time of any of Apocalypse's spells, it should also not cause anything to break with said spells.
