Some notes: I am using vortex; I wanted frostfall to function for mod [21612] Lustmord. That was not happend (in a new games as well)
- take of all armor and stuff. - reset all frostfall settings in the mcm, let frostfall reset the wamth/coverage values for everything. - shutdown frostfall - do as in description page said... - only the Papyrus DLL was to overwrite, no other files. - deploy your mod, AND disabled the 4 original mods. - While all esp/esm/scripts/... are there, it should work out without a loot rule. But in case, this new mod is now the base for all patches like CACO_Frostfall or so. So it has to be sorted before those. - ReDo Bash Patch was not needed, while no changes recognised by WyreBash.
Start skyrim, switch on frostfall. Now it should work as intended.
For the armor mod Lustmord. Here I set the frostfall keywords with help of SSEEdit (before I tried your solution). This didn't do it alone. Only after I went to combine these 4 mods it worked. I can now set the settings for warmth/coverage throug the frostfall mcm. But I advice only to use 1-3 equiped parts while changing the frostfall settings in the mcm armor tab. When equiped more, mcm often hanged...
B.t.w. I didn't test the lustmord mod out of the box. It might be the case that you need to set those frostfall keywords for other armor mods as well. (See: http://skyrimsurvival.com/home/frostfall/armor-compatibility/#1477767297517-3ae17b36-f4d6)
As I described, I only found 2 differences to a normal installation. The overwriten Papyrus DLL (<- I think this is the problem), as well as the missing frostfall keywords in the armor mod. Well It works, that's what's counting...
Just tried installing this today, deleted my original campfire and frostfall mods and followed your tutorial. Started a new game and once I activate Frostfall from the mod menu, the game crashes upon opening up my inventory.

Thank you so much. This instruction corrected the issues I was having with Campfire working poorly (Vortex telling me about a mismatch between SKSE version and Campfire apparently). You are doing a great job.
Now I know why everyone want to give you a big fat wet kiss, this Guide works like a charm, I used to play this about 4-5 years ago and I remember it being super fun, so you can imagine my sadness when I saw a bunch of $$$$$ all over the text, I've seen this before and I knew it wasn't a bug, So I started searching for a fix (I just started a brand new game with the latest Inigo, Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, Legecy of the Dragonborn, Bruma and Helgen reborn), it was going to be with Frostfall and campfire which I had never done before, So thank you from the bottom of my heart, Bless you,
Thanks you so much dude. 7 days i try to solve this issues with papyrus campfire, and no hud , mcm bug with frostfall, i buy survival mod CC, but with requiem SSE, its not work, ( ESL bug with reqtificator). And with your manip, all is ok. No bug, HUD, all works, and papyruss work for campire and my dyndolod is ok.

I've searched periodically for a couple years on how to get this working, reading message boards, etc., and somehow never managed to find this page. I followed step by step and IT WORKS and I want to kiss you. Thank you!
Oh man, I hope this works. Frostfall and Campfire are now canonically necessary mods for my Skyrim experience, and as I'm finally about to make the jump to SSE I'm now pretty worried about getting them to work.
The only issue I've had so far is that I can't get the Process hotkey to work, so I've had to do each step manually. Eh, it's a pretty small thing to live with.

Can you tell us what you did to make it run properly?
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\SKSE\Plugins\CampfireData
Because campfires outdated papyrus version is in a different folder than the never one it does not get overwritten when instaling via mod managers
