sushisquid released an update to his original mod back in January, which i only just realized. The new version is available for SSE and can be found here: Special Edition Followers
Specialized Followers SE will no longer be supported, so long and thank for all the fish. A special thanks to sushisquid!
Edit: Went to change Ghorbash and noticed a whole lot of other NPCs that are not set to calc max level 50. Some of them are set to 0 which means that they will scale up with the player all the way, others are set to 25 or 40 etc. All together I had to change about 8 or 9 followers to cal c max level 50.
Followers are not retroactively updated, if you have met them before installing this mod. I heavily suspect this is what happened here. Nothing to do with the mod.
No I went in to change Ghorbash in SSEdit....he was only set to max level 30. Several other followers were set to lower levels as well or 0 which means that they scale infinitely with the player.
I remember that I stopped using this mod after it came out originally for Oldrim and ended up making my own. I think Sushi just missed a few of the vanilla ones or decided to leave them as is but then it makes it inconsistent.
I remember going through them all one by one and confirming the lvl 50 cap. But thanks for letting me know you used the check SSEdit to verify the issue. I will have a look again myself to see if something went wrong here at some point.
Very interesting. I'll have to see if this plays nicely with AFT.
Upon a first run, I notice Jenassa had the dark face bug. It looks like this mod will interfere with anything that visually overhauls followers. In my case, it was the Bijin series.
Fortunately, it looks like placing Specialized Followers .esp above Bijin's AIO .esp fixes it.
As an extra note, even though I started tracking this mod today, and the mod page has been updated today, it doesn't show as being updated in my tracking center, nor does it show up in "New Today Edited Files". I don't know if that's business as usual in the Nexus, but I only stumbled on this by chance.
sorry for the late reply. This mod isn't compatible out of the box with other mods that edit the same followers. You would need to merge the two mods/make a patch with Xedit/Merge plugins, and if one mod changes the look of a follower, i suppose you would need to do some manual fiddling to fix the gray face bug for them again. I guess Bijin's AIO did change the face of Janessa and had the necessary files to fix the gray face bug for the changes. but since you loaded SF later, it reverted the changes without reverting the facial mesh files.
In other words, yes, this is know behavior and sadly, with the way modding in Skyrim works, this is the part where users need to get their hands dirty themselves. Let me know if you need any help getting started with tes5edit.
BY FAR the single most under-rated mod in on the nexus. Or at least the most under-rated I've stumbled upon. I have a whole list of stories of cool stuff my specialized followers have done that have added every bit as many memories as dragon diversification mods or enemy AI overhauls. Other than Inigo, the best follower mod out there, this is the only other mod I can think of that actually makes followers helluva Fun. Fun, with a capitalized F.
I love follower mods and I always had this mod when i play through skyrim. thanks for bringing it to SE. Would like to see some specializations with the DLC followers (Serena etc.) please and thank you. keep up the good work.
Hi, I stumbled across this because I'm searching for a mod that prevents my followers from drawing their bow and pew pew while in combat. I'm a mage so I'm squishy and I want my tank to stop fucking off and just tank. If I choose followers who specialize only in melee weapons, does that mean they won't play pew pew and stick to melee only? Thanks!
I think what weapon they use is defined by their skills and combat style. Followers tend to favor the weapons their combat style favors, and also weapons that deal more damage, taking skill level into account. They still use several weapon though, so they don't just decide on one forever, but switch between them based on percentages calculated from their preferences. Since Bows have quite a bit of base damage, they tend to be favored a lot in early levels.
Long story short: if you want them to stick to one weapon, take all others away from them via barter. I'm not sure if you maybe need a mod to allow you to take their beginners' bow away.

I left all NPCs with higher level limits as is, but updated 3 that had limits still lower than 50.
Thanks for catching that.
cheers
But I also want to know if it's compatible with Capable Housecarls
cheers
