I've used the mod to successfully teach J'zargo some higher level destruction & restoration spells, but he seldom uses them. I tested him out in a number of combat situations, & he only tossed 1 or 2 thunderbolts at a distant legendary dragon. When it came within Sparks distance, he would switch to that exclusively despite it's notable inferiority. In other fights, he didn't use appropriate higher spells at all. He's got plenty of Magica from enchanted gear, so i don't think economy is at issue. Is there a less convoluted fix for this than fooling around with some additional follower scripting mod? One thing I considered was unteaching his lesser stock spells so he will be forced to break out the heavier ordnance, but that's if all else fails.
Anyone else having similar experiences? Cool mod all the same. Thank you!
Edit: After more testing, It turns out he was just using his stock Lightning Bolt spell, never the Thunder Bolt I tried to give him. I subsequently added another mod to check what spells my followers had, and he had never learned any of those this mod said he had.
This is a late reply but I would recommend to use the MFF (Multiple Followers Framework) mod, as it spruces and spices up the follower management neatly, but doesn't create any issues, and it even can coexist alongside other follower management mods like NFF or EFF. MFF (and other follower management mods) allow to assign a class/archetype to the followers: ranger (archery), berserker (melee), wizard (spells), etc.
If you specifically wanted enhanced AI for distance-based combat tactics for NPCs and followers, then this mod does precisely that: Distance Based Combat: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/60855
Thanks for the Tips! I've since tried NFF, and was quite impressed with what it can do. I think I'll be using it along with MFF off the bat on my next playthrough. Good stuff.
For anyone out there who can't get this mod to work & just wants to add a few spells without a mod, just open console> select desired npc with the cursor> enter "addspell ********(the desired spell id #) and the desired spell will be added to their spell list. Use the "help" search fuction for spell id's as needed. Usage frequency of said spells seems to be dictated by cost and situational factors, but they should use them.
Removing junk spells you would like to take out of their casting rotation (Sparks; grrr) is unfortunately not so simple. The console "Removespell *********" command doesn't seem to work on the proprietary versions of common spells that npcs come with. I'm told xedit is the best recourse to remove these & completely redo a characters magic, but I haven't bothered to go that OC with it yet.
"If your follower is from the vanilla game or using a vanilla voice then simply put the spell tome into their inventory. They will instantly read it just like you!
However, if your follower is a blue cat or some drunk you found in the Whiterun stables there are two steps: First, give them the book "How to read Magical Texts" which was added to your inventory when you first loaded the mod. If the spell tome is not there grab the spell tome on Farengar's desk. (I'm sure he won't mind). You can then take the books away for your own reading pleasure. Next, give them the spell tome as normal."
hi i've activated and read the book to make copies of the follower spell book, but i dont know the name of the spell tome to search it under the magic tab?
does this work on modded in followers or just vanilla followers because i don't use vanilla followers. I've tried using eff system and while i can teach them they don't use the magic i teach em. Would be nice if this mod lets me select which spells they use too.

Just to ask, but I've had issues regarding installing scripts similar to this into current playthroughs. (CTDs on load etc. etc.)
Edit: Installed, save worked fine.Is this mod safe to install/uninstall mid-playthrough? I'm not very mod smart, so forgive my ignorance.
Definitely need a friendly fire mod, frost storm from Aela kicked my ass.
