Mods Compatible with Serana Dialogue Edit (as of Version 1.02) Any mods that only changes Serana's appearance - Since those mods only affect her textured appearance, those mods are compatible with this mod. This applies to the weird appearance mods that change Serana's race. Any mods that removes Serana's hood - The hood is based on one script that is DLC1_NPCMentalModelScript. I avoid that script like the plague. So, they are compatible. Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch - TES5Edit will scream about a slight conflict with a few dialogues. I removed those dialogues in my mod and consolidated them into one area (instead of multiple areas where only one of them really worked). Otherwise, the mods are still compatible and there is nothing to be worried about.
Mods That Seem Compatible with Serana Dialogue Edit (as of Version 1.02) Amorous Adventures - Not 100% sure, but since this mod in Oldrim never had an issue with AA before, it shouldn't be an issue now. Feedback will move this up to the top. Relationship Dialogue Overhaul - Same thing with Amorous Adventures. There was never an issue in Oldrim, it should not be an issue now. You might get a few 'conflicts,' but they are minor and nothing to scream about. Put mine or RDO last in your load order (user choice). Immersive Amazing Follower Tweaks - I never had an issue with AFT and iAFT is just a continuation of AFT from Oldrim. More feedback would bump it up, but I am sure they are compatible.

Questions that are commonly asked or said in the discussions page "The latest version of you mod is crashing on start-up!" As of Version 0.9, the mod now requires the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch. That will be the reason why.
"Is this mod compatible with 'X' mod?" Please read the first sticky above as they contain the mods that are compatible with this mod. If a mod is not listed there and before you post a question asking about it, ask yourself "Will this mod, that changes Whiterun's appearance (for example), really going to affect Serana's dialogue?" Don't be afraid to ask. But at the same time, don't be stupid.
"Hi, I obviously didn't read your sticky. Can you please make your mod compatible with a mod that is already compatible with your sticky." *facepalm*
"Why don't you use audio from other games for this mod?" Because this violates Nexus' policy on using assets from other games. Porting is not allowed on here nor on most mod sites. There are some exceptions (in particular, assets from CD PROJEKT RED allows all assets to be used for non-commercial use), but that is in very rare cases.
"Why don't you use audio from TV shows/movies she has been in/voiced on for this mod?" See above response and multiply the trouble I would get from those studios times a thousand.
"Why not ask Laura Bailey to do extra lines for this mod?" Because I don't have her on speed dial? That and the chances of her actually doing it are silm to none.
"Why not e-mail her? You never know!" Because I have a lot on my plate already and I want to at least have a full mod finished first before I even attempt going to this route. I will eventually go down this route, but not until I am happy with how for this mod is developed. But chances are that she will probably say no (for various reasons).
"Well, why not pay her to do the voice over work?" Because of very complicated reasons, that is not an option (especially after the Skyrim Romance Mod incident). So, I am just putting my foot down on this option. All talk about the use of kickstarter or paying for her services will be ignored.
"When is the next version coming out?" Check my schedule in the description page.
"When is this coming out for SSE?" *facepalm*
"When is it coming out for Xbox One?" Mod has been released for Xbox One as of July 4, 2018.
"This mod altered Serana's appearance!" No, it didn't.
"But-" This is a dialogue mod... nothing more. This mod does not alter her appearance in any way (unless you count allowing Serana to be cured on the Vampire side as one). I left her appearance alone so you can use the 12,904,113.5 Serana appearance mods that exist.
"This mod broke Chasing Echoes!" No, it didn't.
"Now I KNOW you are lying!" And I know that you don't understand the concept of testing this mod before releasing it. I have 1,000+ test saves and I know exactly what works and doesn't work with this mod. Dawnguard is a DLC that was very rushed, with a lot of concepts being scrapped for the sake of releasing the mod earlier. Serana, herself, is a modding nightmare with some modders refusing to not go beyond altering her appearance. This is why there are VERY FEW non-texture mods for Serana out there.
But I am also an experienced programmer and engineer so I wouldn't purposely break a questline nor would forget to test a mod before releasing. I do make mistakes from time to time, but I am not an idiot.
"This crashed my game!" How? Also, no it didn't.
"When I removed your mod from my game, the crashes stopped!!!" Correlation does not imply causation. Explain to me how a mod that ADDS dialogue managed to CTD your game? If that was the case then every follower mod would crashing constantly. Hate to break it to you, but you have bigger issues than some small dialogue mod.
"I have an idea for this mod!" Check the forums page for ideas.
"Why not have this mod merge with 'X' mod? I don't like that there are a lot of esps for this one person." Not my responsibility. If you want to merge the mods, learn to do it yourself.
"When is marriage coming for Serana in this mod?" It's not.
I said that I will be making a separate mod for that. This is done because I don't want the horrible concept of Serana being married ruining my good mod. But since I won mod of the month here, I am going to make it for those users, but as a separate mod.
Is it fine to use this alongside SDA? I dont care if the dialogue make her look like different characters, I just want the extra content without crashing my game or anything.
Wondering the same thing. The FAQ for SDA says they aren't compatible but doesn't actually specify why, or if it's just considered "incompatible" because she'll be switching voices around if they're both used.
SDE and SDA both make changes to a few dialogues' positions in her dialogue tree and where they branch off, so there'd be more than just voice inconsistency. In my (limited) testing you can still use SDA's old 1.0 version from it's Misc Files section with SDE, since it was much lighter in implementation and scope, but not the newer releases.
Apart from all kinds of technical issues this is a terrible idea.. SDA is a badly written, immersion breaking, but completely voice acted mod, this uses her vanilla voice.. gonna be jarring. And trust me when i say: I've done 3 playthroughs with SDA.. this one is much better.
(SDA is more of a Seductress Faye 2.0 I feel, if you ever played that one. Edit is much closer to her vanilla personality)
@Broo70 thanks for clarifying. I wish SDA would be more transparent about how much they change Serana. It's quite literally an entirely different character. And honestly, judging by the images alone on that mod's page, I think you can get a pretty clear picture of what she "becomes". I get that people can and should do whatever they want with the game but I can't help but wonder, if that is what you want, why not just make a new follower of your own?
The work on "Immature Teenager" makes perfect sense. Serana always lived protected and isolated from the rest of the world, with parents who were busy enough not to educate her properly.
@Broo70 Nope it isnt badly written clown. Thats just your loser opinion. Its written very well and add so muc to her instead of making her boring like the vanilla Serana is. She has depth now and actually can move forward instead of just whining 24/7.
Choose this mod if you want serana as a (young) woman and don't live in videos games. Choose SDA if you want a virtual immature girlfriend and live in videos games.
How about I actually find out myself and don't follow some idiot's opinion on both mods? "Immature girlfriend" isn't a criticism and "young woman" tells me nothing. Good job making a fool out of yourself.
Wow. Who pissed in your coffee? Seriously, do what the rest of us do, research. Read the descriptions, check out Reddit posts, watch videos and then try the one you think might suit you best. This comment was mostly a joke targeting those of us who have tried one or both mods. R.I.P. your sense of humor...
TBH, she's kind of an annooying "Twilight"ish style wannabe in vanilla (gawds that dialogue with Valerica), if anything she's less so in SDA. SDA at least kept me from shouting her off every cliff when she was following me to get a break from her petulance. If this goes further in the same direction, that's great.
The work on "Immature Teenager" makes perfect sense. Serana always lived protected and isolated from the rest of the world, with parents who were busy enough not to educate her properly. Add to that the fact that she carries with her the trauma of having been turned into a pure vampire by Molag Bal himself, that her own parents agreed to something like that... If you know what that entails, you'll understand what I'm trying to say. Based on those facts, the team of people who worked on the SDA mod did an amazing job capturing the essence and history of the character. It's not surprising that she has that attitude of a resentful teenager with her parents, more marked thanks to the mod. I understand that many here like mature people (myself included), but it must also be understood that that attitude was given to her because of the background that the character has in itself, not because they wanted to create a completely different character.
SDA almost made me break my PC. Just visceral cringe. "Hands off my boyfriend!" as I'm fighting a dragon priest, literally took my headset off and uninstalled the mod
I don't totally hate Serana's character in SDA, and kudos for the sheer amount of work they put into all the facets of her personality and responsiveness to the world. She freaking responds to EV-ER-Y-THING*. And while her personality might not be for everyone (this interpretation of Serana makes her try too hard to sound smarter than she is), I personally think it's miles ahead of mods such as Improved Follower Dialogue: Lydia, which has similar world responsiveness (and even has banter with SDA, which is super cool), but presents a very, erm, polarizing Lydia, whose every comment is some form of arbitrary harangue, backhanded compliment, or obnoxious repetition.
But back to SDA... DAMN is that a finicky mod, even with (or perhaps because of) its constant updates. A lot of it comes down to how Serana's AI is inherently broken from base Skyrim, but a massive chunk of SDA's problems come from additional features that:
no one asked for
constantly break
and are all done better by other mods.
The outfit system in SDA? Broken; enjoy your endless suspended stacks, disappearing gear, and armor that won't unequip. Spell toggle? Also broken, and will almost assuredly cause black face bugs with appearance mods if you don't know how to patch them. Use horse mods? Well screw you, SDA has a far inferior (and mandatory) horse riding implementation which overrides and conflicts with horse mods while presenting a litany of bugs, from Serana face-humping her horse instead of riding it, Serana running after you as her horse chases her, Serana and her horse falling out of the sky like a Witcher 3 montage opener, and so, so much more.
Even something like her follow-distance options are absolutely broken, to the extent that the SDA team tells us not to use them because they might irreversibly break her AI. For me, this manifested as a permanent bug where Serana literally wants to live inside your bunghole because her follow distance is set to something like -1. She'll push you while you're trying to pick stuff up, causing you to accidentally steal things in front of guards. She'll push you while you're trying to stealth snipe, making you miss and causing a whole barrow of draugr to dogpile you. Hell, she'll push you clear off of cliffs because the view of Nirn is so pretty that she wanted to hog it for herself.
To Martimus and Co.'s credit, they have a very responsive support team who seem to be available to answer questions 24/7. But unfortunately, their answers are usually pretty generic, as they fail to resolve problems and are generally swept away as "problems caused by another mod." Many of the bugs are so longstanding that they've seemingly become a part of the experience now. And she sheer amount of script bloat from this mod is a horror show; this mod is a lot of things, but efficient is not one of them.
TL;DR: SDA is neat, but due to its feature-heavy overreach and Serana's inherently buggy AI, beware of its myriad bugs and undisclosed conflicts with other mods. If there was a version of SDA that ONLY had her dialogue and none of the broken features, it would be a permanent fixture of my modlist. But alas.
*Serana responds to everything... if you don't accidentally break her AI, at which point it'll become a dice roll of whether you'll get the correct response or a response at all.
I agree with you on just about everything. Version 3ish was fine to a point, but then it went downhill for me. I know a lot of work went into making that, but I ran into bugs that ruined it for me. So I came back to this mod, which I used first before SDA. No issues and it looks like mod author has come back so that's exciting. I would recommend anyone to at least try SDA. It does add a lot, but Im glad I came back to this mod. I missed Laura Bailey's voice.
I appreciate the comments of Tenchigumi and kansas72 in particular. Been re-doing my modlist and SDA was installed as part of the original Wabbajack list. I hadn't progressed far enough into the game to experience the issues that have been noted but the amazing detail and honesty of Tenchigumi's post in really sealed the deal for me. I had known about SDE and see the on-going developments (studies and exams permitting!) which are very cool.
Just hearing Serana speaking in Laura Bailey's voice is ... comforting. A good kind of nostalgia. Having a lore-friendly expansion by ThatGuyYeah makes her even more awesome.
It only took me 10 minutes to clean some masters in xEdit (incl. Synthesis patches) of locations that SDA adds, plus a necklace. That was it. And it sounds like my gameplay will be more stable and coherent as a result. Sometimes less (feature creep) really is more.
Is there anyway to check the relationship mechanics progress? When you free Serana from the crypt and talked thru her dialogue I got text on the upper left side saying that "Serana tolerates you" and something like "Choose other dialogue - TRUE" but now I've played thru the entire DLC and I've gotten texts saying that Serana likes and loves some of the dialogue choices I made but never any update to the actual relationship from tolerates in the beginning.
I'm aware the mod author is currently working on it and I was wondering if it's worth installing the mod right now (for the first time) since I have no idea if it will be safe to update it mid playthrough. Does anyone know anything about this? Last thing I want is to come back here and whine about how the mod is making my game crash lol
Hi there! Just want to let you know that this mod IS incompatible with Flower Girls! Upon completing Serana's main romance questline, this mod removes the ability to have anymore intimacy scenes with Serana. I've previously run FG with "Serana Dialogue Add-on" without conflict from Flower Girls, but your mod has this issue.
Hello! I noticed that the dialogue that you ask to Serana for marrying does not appear. I don't care if she refuses, but it strikes me that the dialogue doesn't even appear once the Dawnguard questline ends. (I checked that my character had Mara's amulet)
i hear that ussep wont be needed in update. that cool cuz i remember wanting to try this mod out but didnt want to have to add ussep when ive been able to avoid it for the rest of my mod list. i hope its coming soon as i am literally rn working on my modlist to startup a new run after ive made my own mod making the vampiric drain stronger and blood of the ancients effect infinite duration
