For anyone it may concern: The ini tweaks listed after it tells you to close BethINI, you can edit them all IN BethINI under the Custom tab

Hello, just a quick question - should I additionally install any compatibility patches suggested by LOOT?

On side note - NMM doesn't allow me to activate Draugr and Designs of the Nords mods. Any idea?

    Thanks !

Hi. The guide is not completely up to date at the moment, so it is very possible that there are new compatibility patches available. I suggest to check those out that are suggested by LOOT. But avoid installing them blindly. It is possible that you already have a compatibility patch installed that LOOT doesn't reckognize.

I will probably look into it soon to get the guide up-to-date in that area.

No idea why NMM doesn't want you to install those two mods. What does NMM say exactly?

Yeah, I'll definitely look at LOOT suggestions,

As for the 2 mods I can't install - NMM just doesn't react. I double click these and nothing happens. Super weird.

      Best.

A hunch considering NMM installation issues:
More and more small Special Edition mods, especially patches, get transitioned from using standard ESP plugin files to ESP files flagged as ESMs in their header. The big up side is that these don't count towards the normal plugin limit and make merging of patches almost obsolete. The downside for some is that Nexus Mod Manager NMM can not handle them. I can't help with the details, as I use none of the most popular mod managers.

Actually LOOT has gotten pretty good with finding duplicates now, if you install two patchs it knows about it will tell you which is better and to remove the other.

    Thanks for this list.

Im really looking forward to you updating a bit.

For now, i have to ask:

I still want to add a couple Mods that you didnt list, including some you purposefully didnt include, like AFT and Wt & Cold. Is there a problem with the folliwng Mods?

Moonlight Tales/Bloodmoon Rising, The Glamoril, Wildcat, Open Civil War, Forgotten Magic.

2 of them are Magic Mods so they shouldnt add much problems. But what about Wildcat? As far as i know its a rather clean Mod. Open Civil War may add some issues, but i would honestly say its worth it. Moonolight Tales/Bloodmoon Rising are the 2 big werewolf overhauls and important in my eyes.

    Thoughts?

Install everything through Vortex, If you need to change over from NMM do so, or use Mod Organiser 2
This way you can keep your game install clean of loose files and switch between mod loadouts easily. I already posted an update in this thread about my experience starting a fresh install after a good six months had past.

Check what LOOT says make sure you have the latest versions of Xedit, Mator Smash and LOOT.

Some Info is a bit outdated in the main guide this post serves to remedy some questions
Vortex is the new manager now.
Adding more detail as I freshly did an install.

    LOOT:
LOOT is now smart enough to inform which patches are invalid/or specifically needed with direct links to get them for a number of popular mods including a lot in this list. (based its own recommendation) for example, leads me to this https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/18369
(as this includes many patches which you have not specified needed a patch but are required anyway)

It also when comeing across two patchs which it understands does the same thing it will determin the better of the two and refer you to remove the outdated patch/patch's

    XEDIT:
Also is much smarter and a few of the cleaning requirements are fixed, along with catching some new records from the latest versions of Skyrim SE, also there is an automated clean process you can use to auto-detect and clean mods or masters without user interaction by use of starting XEdit 4.x.x with the command-line argument "-quickautoclean"

    DynDOLOD:
Download for DynDOLOD standalone has changed too: https://forum.step-project.com/topic/13894-dyndolod-beta-for-skyrim-special-edition-and-skyrim-vr-256/
Download for DynDOLOD Resources SE: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/59721/?tab=files
(make sure you manually download the "DynDOLOD Resources SE" main file)

You now download "DynDOLOD Standalone 2.56 beta" or later versions, Also there is an optional " DynDOLOD DLL" which can be used instead of scripts to generate Dynamic LOD and ALL OLD VERSIONS OF DynDOLOD below 2.4x are redundant and the newer versions have a slew of bug fixes specifically for SE/VR SE and corrects multiple issues with a few land mods in this load order. READ THE QUICKSTART GUIDE INCLUDED IT WILL EXPLAIN ALL

    Notes/Misc
A few patches are outdated and or have missing links now or just not required anymore, namely the Audio Overhaul for Skyrim no longer has a patch for Realistic Water 2 as of version 3.0.0 much has changed and the mod was re-made nearly from scratch.

The grass mod from this guide no longer exists on Nexus, replacements? who knows any of them probably, and if you are decent with XEdit you can patch out any odd clipping issues in towns manually from mods you cannot find the patch for.

I think that is about it, besides some tips with Vortex, you may now find that instead of simply getting an overwrite dialogue you end up with a huge list of what should load before or after or be removed when certain mods are loaded alongside, Vortex Nexus's answer to Mod Organiser 2, it has some of both worlds in the package. as most of you reading this are probably savvy enough to follow large load order guides, Gopher has a great vid which will run you through the new correct way to decide what is going to override another mods assets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSkurhkPSyw

Also when installing a mod using Vortex DO NOT PANIC! Installations now work like this, Download > Install Mod > Mod now resides in your chosen install location > Enable installed mod > Mod is Hard linked into your Skyrim Directory this is great because no longer do loose files or any file you install with Vortex physically exist in your Skyrim SE directory they are instead linked from the installation path you choose meaning anything you can install can be undone just easily with no permanent effect to your game's installation allowing you to easily hop between different load orders and mods which you can save into profiles, the only thing I have not tested is if profiles swap your save and ini data aswell as this would really make the differnce if it did.

Got another tip for you all, it is possible to fix the havoc speed and unlock your framerate to make use of 120/144hz displays and Freesync/Gsync

Hey there, i have put more than 4 days (full ones) into modding (still low stability), so this build is really nice.
Just a question though. Are there any plans to add a Vortex mod manager option in the guide? Thanks anyway

Hey. Sorry for the late reply.

I will probably look into Vortex the next time I'm installing the mods. MO2 does a really good job nowadays, but I've heard good things about Vortex, too. So it's worth a look I guess.

I've followed your guide but removed a fews mods, havent added any others. I've run into an issue infortunately. Everytime i follow the path from helgen to riverwood at start of game, i crash. Same for going near bleakfalls barrow, so i can't progress in the game :( i followed a post about doing something by force loading riverwood and get the crash then as well, what mod could cause this / how too proceed??

      Sorry for the late reply.

My last information is, that there is a JK Patch for blowing in the wind. But it's an outdated patch that could cause problems. I haven't tested it, though.

Does anyone know which mod causes the player camera to lose focus and then regain it occasionally when it's raining, snowing, or you walk under dripping water in ruins? I can't find any way to disable it and it's driving me mad.

Have you tried to disable Depth of Field?

It doesn't sound like an issue by a mod but rather a vanilla problem.

If disabling Depth of Field doesn't work, you might want to disable Radial Blur or try out the mod "No more Radial Blur".

I have depth of field disabled. The reason I think it's a mod is that it's reminiscent of when in Oldrim the Wet and Cold mod would do the same effect if you looked up while it was raining, simulating water going in your eyes. I will try disabling radial blur and get back to you as to whether that worked or not.

      I see.

Only Wonders of Weather and Obsidian Weathers and Seasons should alter the rain in this setup.

Turns out it was Wonders of Weather, despite being undocumented. I only found this out because I removed it due to encountering a CTD while Alduin resurrects the dragon from the burial mound on the left of the road South out of Rorikstead. The weather was changing to a storm of some kind and it would crash me every time. I should mention however I am running several mods not part of your guide so any one of these could be responsible for the crash, however I was able to solve it by removing Wonders of Weather.

I see. That is interesting. I haven't tested the current setup in that situation, yet.

Wonders of Weather is supposed to be really stable, but you never know.

Wet and Cold used to have that feature, not sure if it still does or not. Had it for rain, snow and ashes.

the amount of expansions is slightly concerning for me…

Will a i5-8400 be able to handle it?

There are expansions with less performance than others.

But overall, they don't differ from the original world of Skyrim that much.

I'm not exactly sure, where the i5 8400 stands at the moment. But I have an i5-6500 and no problems regarding the CPU. My GTX 1060 bottlenecks slightly

you will be perfectly fine with your cpu you've got what 6 cores ? i5s have always been great for gaming. hell this modlist can run nice on a i5 2500k :) it's a lot more to do with the gpu's vram and your HDD (unless u use SSD) that the textures will affect performance the most.
I've used guides like this on the i5 6600k and a gtx 960 on oldrim :)
edit: enable some sort of cpu overlay ingame or the task managers performance monitor in a second monitor to check on the cpu usage while running around :) thhat'll tell you a lot.
