Thank you guys for your support, advices and interests in this mod. Though, I'm not interested in promoting this mod, or continue my work at this mod. I published this mod for Skyrim SE, because I got asked frequently to convert my Oldrim mod since SSE came out.

So, please don't waste your time by asking me to add something, or to promote this mod for more downloads. I won't. Hope you enjoy this one anyway.

    Cheers

It would be a tad bit involved, but you could just open the plugin in XEdit and delete the records for the male bards.
Or just work around it by overwriting the ones the mod adds that you don't want replaced with the default sound files.

Would you be able to provide a tutorial for how you did this? I am trying to add Malukah's Tale of Tongues and Ragnar the Red an am encountering 3 issues.

1.) In SE I have downloaded facefxwrapper, creation kit fixes and Fonixdata lipsync fix.   I have also followed these instructions.  https://www.reddit.c...n_sse_creation/

The WAV file I am using is in the correct format, 44100 mono, 16bit PCM.   The LIP generates fine from the WAV but it doesn't match.  In game the lip starts immediately, about 5 seconds before the song dialogue.  I thought this was due to instruments at the beginning of the song... so I muted them so there is no sound in the WAV until the actual voice dialogue starts.  This did not help at all, as it seems to pretty much ignore the mute/silent beginning of the WAV in the LIP.

2.) I used a custom version of Ragnar the Red for females and for some reason they don't play their lute, they just hold the lute idle and passively.  Yet looking at the records there is absolutely no difference between the default vanilla record for males and the new one I created for females.

3.) I am not able to test Tale of Tongues.  This song is suppose to come available when Dragon Slayer (MQ305) is completed and the epilogue (MQ306) begins.  I have used the console to setstage mq305 200 to complete Dragonslayer and setstage mq305 260 to start the epilogue "MQ306 has no stages".  But the song request is still not available on any bard that should have it.  I even tried removing the conditions from the dialogue topic and song verse so it doesn't require the quest at all but that didn't help... I still can't request Tale of Tongues.

I looked at the example video, and I noticed that when the NPC sings there is no subtitles, only the name of the person who sang is written.is this really so? remove the caption and leave only one title in place?

Yes, and you're the first one in 10 years complaining about the subs crediting the author.

Hey amazing work, but have you ever thought of using Peter Hollens' music for a mod like this. He does ALL the songs. You could replace all the male versions with him.

The Malukah songs completely destroy any immersion. Last time i checked, there are no reverb amps in the medieval times and it's suppose to be ONE singer, not a choir..

If it comes to that, I have yet to see a full symphony orchestra and a crowd of people in dinner jackets and evening gowns singing their hearts out nearby whenever I kill a dragon.

Hey, you know what else they didn't have? Magic. Dragons. Trolls. Giants. Draugr. And the list goes on and on and on. You're complaint is so out of place to be patently ridiculous.

That argument always comes up when people complain about immersion. It's a terrible argument. I suppose we could use that argument to address bugs in the game too, right? For instance, who cares if mammoths are floating 50 feet above the tundra because Skyrim has magic and giants and trolls. Or how about the black face bug that occurs when modders forget to update the facegendata? No big deal at all because Skyrim has dragons and enchanting.

Or how about this. What if someone made a mod that added clown hats to all the dragons and trolls and draugr? Would the argument then be "clown hats on monsters is okay because the game has monsters?" At what point does that which is unbelievable (monsters) become unacceptable?

In any work of fiction, the reader or viewer must judge for themselves whether the author has stretched believability too far. For some, the issues mentioned here are small, for others they're too big to be acceptable. To each his own. But dragons and magic and trolls being in the world doesn't automatically make it okay to have a solitary bard singing with an invisible chorus or whatnot.

Well, I'm sure that in medieval times 'bard colleges' wouldn't repeatedly crank out tone deaf performers who sing off key and add awkward pauses in between each phrase while playing drums that sound twice as big as they actually are, but lo and behold that's what vanilla gave us. The mod author never claimed to be making an immersive mod. They just offered an alternative to the vanilla game's way of breaking immersion. All YOU've offered is a complaint, sooo...

I think this discussion here has gotten a little out of hand. computertech82's complaint isn't invalid because of "lol but there's dragons" or "why dont you make a mod yourself?". While being immersed can be a nit pick at times, other times just fixing the problem or patching it can make the experience genuinely better. He wasn't being rude or judgemental or anything. He's simply giving a valid critique, which I would personally agree with (though the song itself is wonderful on its own). All the mod author has to do is be more selective of his song. But at the same time, he doesn't have to also, since its his mod. And yes, computertech82 could actually learn how to use Creation Kit to make a bard mod for himself if he really wants to (actually you could download this mod and find a way to replace the song you don't like with one you rather want to hear). None of you guys are helping the situation.

Which in fact wouldn't be too hard, actually. You just need to replace the audio files by using the same file name. Can't remember the format (guess they are renamed MP3 files even), but they are easy to identify since they are the biggest files. And, if my memory serves me right, they are even placed in a separate folder. However, you shouldn't mind the bard's lips does not follow the lyrics of your song...

Well, I'll send you an MP3 of a country hillbilly plunking away on a Banjo = you'll enjoy the realism far more, right?

People here get offended pretty easily. The guy has a valid point, It breaks immersion. It's supposed to be a medieval themed game, which means we shouldn't expect one person singing and sounding like an entire modern orchestra. It's supposed to make the tavern songs better, which the other songs do quite well, just not this one.

Replying to paradoxnrt "Well, I'll send you an MP3 of a country hillbilly plunking away on a Banjo = you'll enjoy the realism far more, right?"

That would indeed be somewhat more authentic, but since the banjo is an African instrument (its been called "a drum with strings"), it would be no more appropriate for a Scandinavian style medieval, high fantasy world than the 20th Century electronically produced music under discussion here.

Searching for a replacement for the unfortunate vanilla music, the best I can find is a mod -- Alternative Bards Lute Songs -- with lute music by Hungarian musician Csaba Béke. Unfortunately, I've found no traditional sounding vocal music to replace the ghastly vanilla performance.

You will probably need to go to "hillbilly" land to get the best vocals for this performance style in the United States. You can look up Elizabeth Laprelle or Donna Ray Norton to hear current younger examples of ballad singing in the old style. Some of the lines from "Ragnar the Red" could have been pulled from the old ballad "Little Mattie Groves" which can be traced to at least the year 1613. Elizabeth LaPrelle sings it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gajbmVvUpk
