A patch for Stress and Fear by JaySerpa that makes the stress system more nuanced and less detrimental in combat.

I really like the concept of stress encouraging the player to take a break from combat, but I feel it punishes the player too much for engaging with a core system.
This instead rewards the player for being at low stress and adds smaller, but still relevant, penalties for high stress. I was also a bit disappointed to see no "prize" for reaching 100 stress, so I added one.
This mod does not modify any sources of stress or ways of lowering it.
All damage buffs affect physical damage and the damage done by destruction spells. There is also a patch for Mysticism's poison and sun spells.

No changes are made to the fear system.

Only one stress stage can be active at a time.


No Stress
Stress range: 0-25
Beneficial effects, focused on utility and stealth. This is the level you want to be at for crafting and market dwelling.

The following effects apply:
  • Speech is 10% better
  • Buying and selling prices are 10% better
  • Pickpocketing is 10% easier
  • Lockpicking is 10% easier
  • Created potions and poisons are 10% stronger
  • Enchanting produces 10% stronger effects
  • Tempered items are 10% better
  • Sneaking is 15% easier
  • Shout cooldown is lowered by 10%
  • Spells cost 10% less magicka
  • Health, stamina, and magicka recover 10% faster
  • All skill increase 5% faster



Low Stress
Stress range: 26-45
Beneficial effects, focused on combat. This is the level you want to be at when fighting.

  • Sneaking is 10% easier.
  • Shout cooldown is lowered by 10%
  • Damage dealt is increased by 10%
  • Spells cost 10% less magicka
  • Health, stamina, and magicka recover 10% faster



Moderate Stress
Stress range: 46-65
Small beneficial effects, focused on combat. Weaker than the stage before but still positive.

The following effects apply:
  • Sneaking is 5% easier.
  • Shout cooldown is lowered by 5%
  • Damage dealt is increased by 5%
  • Spells cost 5% less magicka



Severe Stress
Stress range: 66-85
Detrimental effects. Mostly bad for barter and such.

  • Speech is 10% worse
  • Buying and selling prices are 10% worse
  • Pickpocketing is 10% harder
  • Lockpicking is 10% harder
  • Shout cooldown is increased by 5%



Critical Stress
Stress range: >85
Significant detrimental effects.

  • Speech is 10% worse
  • Buying and selling prices are 20% worse
  • Pickpocketing is 15% harder
  • Lockpicking is 15% harder
  • Created potions and poisons are 15% weaker
  • Enchanting produces 15% weaker effects
  • Tempered items are 15% worse
  • Sneaking is 10% harder
  • Shout cooldown is increased by 10%
  • Damage taken is increased by 25%
  • Spells cost 10% more magicka
  • Health, stamina, and magicka recover 10% slower
  • All skills increase 15% slower



Stressed Out
At 100 stress you will get the Stressed Out perk, which doubles damage dealt and received. It does stack with Critical Stress.
