Hey Andrealphus, would it be possible for you to incorporate another possible path for getting into Sovngarde, through using Mehrunes Razor to cut a path into Sovngarde, with its own drawbacks? I feel like it still fits thematically with your ideas here, and additionally, it doesnt require doing a separate faction almost to the end.

      Maybe. A couple of points:
      1. Is there anything within the lore that indicates Mehrunes Razor is capable of doing this?
      2. If I were to do this, it would have some major drawbacks, like a permanent debuff that would be much worse than the one you get for using the Skeleton key.

      1. "By reading Mankar Camoran's Commentaries on the Mysterium Xarxes, one can learn that Mankor utilized Mehrunes Dagon's relic, his bloody Razor, to 'flay himself into new shapes'. Through Mehrunes' Razor, Mankar cut his own protonymic - the component tones and syllables of his soul - and rearranged its pieces into a new form. In doing so, Mankar became the architect of his own birth, rewriting his entire history and eliminating all trace of his father's influence on his being. Thus, he ceased to become the Bosmer Mankar of the Camorans, and thenceforth and for all time was reborn as the Mankar of the Stars, Ayleid and Dragonborn, fit to wear the Amulet of Kings and bring about Dagon's vision of the end of Tamriel."
-Mankar Camoran | VS Battles Wiki | Fandom

With this idea in mind, it could be theorized that the Dragonborn could cut their own protonymic, and become a version of themselves capable of breaking into (or being worthy of) Sovngarde. Bonus points would be making Tsun's Dialogue always default to being unworthy because you chose this method, but that's a lot more work than I would want to put on you.

      2. I'm completely fine with that. I like that it gives a third option to try and break in another way, and attempting to do so in an imperfect manner by cutting yourself, or the path, to the Afterlife sounds fitting that you'd be faced with a permanent drawback. Especially considering that the full Mysterium Xarxes isn't in the game, just a page. Could put a requirement for the player to have read the page, and have the dagger, to get that option (if possible to flag it that way), and that the drawback is because the player hasn't fully read the Mysterium Xarxes (putting the flaw in the process).

That actually sounds very cool. I'll think about it.

I think this would be more worth it if someone added more content and random stuff to do on Sovngarde. Party with the heroes of Sovngarde or something, minigames, interact with the heroes idk lol. Give the player more reason to go back to Sovngarde after main quest. Otherwise it's good if you just want to make the main quest longer, more challenging and potentially more rewarding in terms of accomplishment. This reminds me of old skool videogames. Nice.

You can't get back to Sovngarde with this mod after the main quest, to avoid certain issues.

@darth, there's always this mod, Unmarked Locations - Sovngarde. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/87899

However, like Andrealphus mentioned, you wont be able to get back into Sovngarde when you leave. Should still feel worth it, though

Cult of the World Eater - Dragon Priests Buff Alduin is technically compatible, but it would make little sense if you already need to collect all the masks. However, if you use the alternate method (see spoiler), it will still make sense.

Any mods that edit the Call Dragon quest for Odahviing, will make you unable to ride Odahviing back and forth to Skyrim.

Any mods that add mapmarkers for Skuldafn should be compatible.

But if you also use End Times....

That would be a challenging playthrough. I'd love to see someone try it. I actually have seen someone livestream the Dawnguard version of End Times with my Dawnguard overhaul. That was really fun and thrilling to watch.

  5. I love this idea a lot but I have some questions;

Do the mod marks the dragon priest locations or do we have to find them ourselves? It could be a little bit annoying to find them everytime you do a playthrough. Also can we take the masks back after we kill the Alduin? I use LOTD and I need them in my museum lol

This mod doesn't add questmarkers, nor do I have any plans to add any. I may add a lorebook with descriptions of the dragon priests.

Also can we take the masks back after we kill the Alduin? I use LOTD and I need them in my museum lol

      Description:
(...) Or what if we want to get our masks back, afterwards?"
Fear not! I have made some edits to Odahviing, which will allow you to ask him to take you to either
Skuldafn or Skyrim. (In the latter he'll drop you off in Dragonsreach's perch, where you originally fought and captured him.) If you use the "Call Dragon" shout to call Odahviing, give him a moment to find a place to land, before you talk to him
    2. Thank you for taking your time to answer me! Great mod!

I would recommend Defeat the Dragon Cult for this!

Technically you can if you gather all the masks (and the Konahrik mask) and then use the Skeleton Key to open the portal. Otherwise you'll need to have the Konahrik mask placed in the bust to keep the portal open.

Will any 9 dragon priest masks do, or does it have to be the 9 from Skyrim? There are 4 more on Solstheim, after all ;)

    Hi Andrealphus,
You shouldn't say that  Cult of the World Eater would make little sense with SPR because while the PLAYER knows that the Dragon
Priests buff Alduin (because its the player that installed that mod), the Dragonborn does not.

Yet, you do COULD think that  Defeat the Dragon Cult would make little sense with SPR but I wouldn't agree with it.
You see: I think that this AMAZING Sovngarde Portal Requirements of yours
not only DOES  make sense with Defeat the Dragon Cult but it even
EXPANDS IT even further and here is (in my very very humble opnion) why:
Defeat the Dragon Cult basically just tells you "Dude, kill the Dragon Priests
before fighting Alduin at the Throat of the World, trust me!" hinting
of Alduin's buffs applied by the Cult of the World Eater mod...
So I thought... Why shouldn't/couldn't the encouragement given by Esbern's
note in Defeat the Dragon Cult mod also apply to the Dragonborn vs
Alduin final fight that will take place on Sovngarde, ESPECIALLY given
the ABSOLUTE COINCIDENCE - of which Esbern knew nothing
about* -  that you DO NEED the masks that Dragon Priests drop after their deaths to EVEN JUST ENTER
    Sovngarde?

    * This gave me I very stupid idea, although a bit outside the scope of this mod ( I would do this myself if I had any
knowledge of modding): an optional version/modification of this SPR, for Defeat the Dragon Cult mod user - in which, after killing Alduin AND the dragon priests, you could tell Esbern  something along the line of "Thank you for
pointing me to the dragon priests. It turned out i needed their masks to
open a portal to Sovngarde where I defeated Alduin"

The reason I said that is because you would need to kill all the dragon priests anyways to get all the masks, meaning by the point you have all the masks, Alduin will have lost all the buffs of the mod (since you killed all dragon priests anyways) and be at normal strength again. (like when you didn't have the mod installed) The only difference is when you use the Skeleton Key to bypass the mask requirements to enter Sovngarde.
