What this mod will do and what this mod will not do
Many people misunderstand what the "brawl bug" actually is.
If punching the NPC makes them hostile, that's not the brawl bug.
If the NPC refuses to talk to you, that's not the brawl bug.
If other NPCs turn hostile during the brawl, that's not the brawl bug.
As the mod description says, the brawl bug is specifically the fact that the NPC will turn hostile when hit by a player's magic effect (and complain about magic use) even when the effect is flagged as non-hostile (and likely hidden and unknown to the player). Many mods give the player a hidden cloak because it is the only way to apply magic effects or scripts to all enemies, but because the vanilla game erroneously does not check for hostility, doing so will break brawls. This is a very common issue because many popular mods have hidden cloaks, and this is what this mod will help with.
If any of the above mentioned things happen to you, your issue is not the brawl bug and this mod will not help you. There are brawl cheat mods that remove all restrictions on brawls, or you can fix your load order because they are generally symptoms of a problem with other mods in your load order.
Likewise, this mod does not allow you to cheat and fireball the opponent in the face. If you want this, or you have something on your character that spews hostile damage everywhere, you again need a brawl cheat mod.
I was having trouble too. I think I must have had a mod that altered those scripts already, and because the mod author loads the scripts from BSA the other mod was taking priority. If you extract the script files from the BSA using something like BAE, this may fix it for you - it worked for me.
skelliebro2, after extracting the files using BAE, where did you place the files afterword? leaving them in the Modern Brawl Bug fix folder didn't accomplish anything for me.
Brawl Bug Fix 1. Get the Modern Brawl Bug Fix Loose file from Script Optimization and Fixes Compilation. 2. Delete the existing Modrn Brawl bug fix script file and replace it with the Modern Brawl Bug Fix Loose file. 3. Fix the bug.
guys, I'm having a bug where I can never start a brawl, the npc just stand there after dialogue! I know this mod isn't supposed to fix this bug, but does anyone knows a fix for that?
This was happening to me for Benor. He just takes my money then walks away lol. What fixed it for me was going to the inn and waiting until he showed up (after 7pm), asked for a brawl, beat him and completed the radiant quest.
I was playing as an orc character and I was planning to go to all orc fortress and defeating the chief in a brawl, then I would mine the ore in their mines and use it to craft my armor. I could only brawl the first orc chief and after that this bug started happening, spoiling all my fun, so I started a new game and the bug was gone. I guess when brawling the orc chiefs must somehow break the brawl quest for me...
Also some pointers before engaging in any brawl: - If you're using Nether's Follower Framework, go to Gameplay > uncheck Improve Combat Awareness. This fixes the issue where followers attack your brawl opponent. - If you have Vilja as a follower, disable her via console. Open console, click her then type "disable". Then after the brawl type "enable" to re-enable her. Having her in the same cell as you would cause issues with brawling.
Saddly the NFF trick doesn't work. Unchecking it does nothing. As soon as I attack the person I'm in a brawl with, all my followers will start attacking them as well.

Hopefully this gets updated.

Bethesda games don't have bugs, they have features.
Honestly, bethesda owe the modders so much of their success it's unreal.
