    INIGO SE is here!

    =============================================================
*** I have a store! Get your Inigo merch HERE! ***
    =============================================================

Get Inigo for the original version of Skyrim HERE. The current SE version is essentially the same as V2.3 for the

original Skyrim, with a few tweaks and minor additions. Check the change log for details.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Update instructions:

    • 1. Make sure he isn't riding, waiting, or relaxing.
    • 2. Save the game using the save menu and then quit to the desktop.
    • 3. Replace the Inigo.esp and Inigo.bsa files with the new versions.
    • 5. For those that use any kind of patcher, ASIS etc, be sure to re-run your patcher.
    • 6. Restart the game and continue from the save you made.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Changes:

    • Inigo has been edited in the new CK, tested in SSE, and cleaned with SSEEdit. Landscape edits are intentional. Inigo does not require cleaning.
    • Inigo's eyes were re-built in line with SSE's new meshes.
    • You can now refresh the aliases of npcs that Inigo can talk to with a new option found in the Talking section of the "Mind if I ask you something?" topic if one of them has been altered by another mod. The new option is "Think about the people you'd like to talk to. Maybe you're forgetting someone?" (Please read the description page section on npc scenes before reporting an issue.)
    • A new way to start the spider conversation has been added for those who use a spider replacement mod. It will now be available once you've settled the matter of your shared past, providing Inigo has fought a number of mudcrabs.
    • All random dialogue quests can be shut down manually with an option that appears at the top of his main topic list if one of them is running when it shouldn't.
    • Countless lines have been re-conditioned (many fired at a slightly different rate in the SE and have been adjusted to take this into account).
    • A new note has been added called "A load on my mind" that triggers his random loading screens when in Inigo's inventory. Remove it if you don't want to see the custom Inigo loading screens.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Placing Mr D on Inigo's belt in V2.4 -

Since an Inigo MCM isn't currently possible for the Special Edition, CdCooley has kindly added a way for you to place Mr D on Inigo's belt without it (on by default). The guy's a genius, what can I say. Use the console command below, replacing the # with the number corresponding with the option you prefer: (0 = not visible, 1 = large back, 2 = small back, 3 = small front)

    setpqv InigoStatus ShowMrD #

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CDcooley has also added a few new commands for recovering Inigo and his gear. See the "I lost him!

I lost his stuff!" section of the FAQ on the description page for details.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch this video guide to learn about Inigo's most important features

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WARNING: Do not try to control Inigo with options from other mods.
    You will break his brain!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch the User Guide Video and read the FAQ before asking a question or reporting an issue.

    ---------------- WHEN IS V3 COMING??? ----------------

I'm currently working on V3 (where Inigo's quest will continue and end). If I have to stop for some unexpected reason this post will disappear. V3 is massive and I've had various setbacks (actors dropping out, my back going, covid, my pc exploding), but work continues.  It will take as long as it takes. If you ask when it's coming out you will just be referred to this message.

    ========================================================================
If you're interested in seeing a little of what I've been up to with V3 check out the Making Inigo V3 playlist.

If you used Wabbajack to install a 'modlist' containing Inigo (especially if you can't talk to Inigo), or if you installed Inigo as part of a 'collection', read this before you post:

It has come to my attention that some 'modlist' creators have made changes to Inigo, without permission from us or warning to us.  That being the case, while I can still answer basic questions about Inigo the way he SHOULD be, if you need any support for any problem involving Inigo, first read the ENTIRE readme/FAQ and any documentation from the 'modlist' author, then read the entire front page of the Inigo mod, then if you still have the question/problem, ask it in whatever support forum the modlist creator provides, as I can not help you when I have no idea what they have done to change Inigo.

One example of this is Total Skyrim Overhaul, which evidently makes modifications to Inigo without Smartbluecat's permission, and without warning to Inigo support, so we get repeated reports of a 'problem' that turns out to be something they changed on purpose.  And we still have no idea what all they changed or why.

An Important Message from Gary and Eolhin
    (Updated July 2022)

Eolhin: Both sections are now updated, spoiler tags added to reduce length to scroll past.  Expand to see the actual updates.

Gary: "Due to a slew of real life trials and troubles neither myself or Eolhin are currently able to reliably monitor these pages for the time being. On my side, this year hasn't been much better than the last, and I can't justify spending the little free time I have here when I could be using it to work on Inigo. Usually the wonderful Eolhin takes care of the day to day Q and A, etc, but she can no longer perform that role for reasons she outlines below. We humbly ask that those in the community who can help others, do so when they are able. Inigo has been out for a very long time and most of the issues/questions you may have will have already been solved/answered many times. If you get stuck, read the front page, FAQ, and sticky posts, search the forums, watch the user guide video, or give it a good old fashioned google. A massive thank you to those who step up and answer what they can in our absence. Stay safe and well, guys and remember to keep an eye on the Smartbluecat YT channel and twitter for news and progress updates."

    "Dearest friends of Inigo,

As many of you know, my life hasn't been the same since covid. The years just before covid were no picnic either, but since the pandemic things got worse... then continued to get worse. Far less security from my day job has meant relying on more freelance which in turn has left me less time to focus on unpaid work like Inigo. Progress is still ongoing, but it has slowed to a crawl. There was a time when I could afford to work on Inigo every day, now I have to grab an hour here or there when I can. There are factors outside of work; real life problems that will remain personal, that have also restricted my free time. That could change at any moment, but for now rent, bills, and family have to come first.

To be honest, I've considered posting that I can no longer work on Inigo; that due to circumstances outside my control, I have been forced to abandon the project (to stop the endless questions filling up my inbox, if nothing else), but that isn't true. No one wants the years of work I've already completed on Inigo V3 to reach fruition more than me, I still get, all too brief, periods where I can fully immerse myself in his development, and his character and story are always on my mind. I do however think it's best for people to understand that I am no longer in a position to dedicate my life to his development. I wish it were not the case, but there you have it.

Despite my apparent lack of progress, I still receive occasional donations. I am beyond grateful for this, and the extra support has really helped. That said, I have a request for those of you who are considering donating explicitly to support Inigo's development: please don't. Given the situation outlined above, I'd much rather people donate for what they've already enjoyed, not what they expect to enjoy in the future. Let's be honest, the way my luck has been going, if I do manage to finish V3 an asteroid will hit the UK just before my finger hits the "publish" button.

In better news, some substantial freelance work fell into my lap a few months ago which, should it continue as it has been, may give me the security to continue work on my best blue buddy properly for, intermittent, yet more prolonged, blocks of time. That would be fantastic, so fingers crossed!

I continue to be in awe of the community that surrounds Inigo. The constant love and support from that quarter has made these recent terrible years all the more bearable. With or without Inigo, you guys are utterly amazing.

Stay fantastic and be kind to one another.

    Much love always

    Gary"

"My brother, who I lived with and have been taking care of all this last year, passed away recently due to the cancer, which metastasized and ate his lungs.  Just two weeks before he passed away, our mother, who is disabled and has dementia, and who I also care for, fell and broke her hip.  The anesthesia made her dementia MUCH worse, so she was in a nursing home/recovery center when my brother passed away.  I had a brief few weeks to get a TON of paperwork, arrangements, and other such taken care of.  During that time, I tried to still do at least some of the Inigo support, though I am sure you will have noticed that I did not respond to everything, and things are not getting covered like they used to.  Now the nursing home has sent mother home, but she is still worse off than she was before breaking her hip.  I am averaging two to three hours of sleep a night, sometimes less, and I can't leave her alone at all.  I have to get someone to stay with her even to just get the groceries and prescriptions, or any other errands, and that is not always easy to arrange.  She frequently needs help during the night, thus the sleep deprivation.  Which is all to say, I will be even less available for now than I was when caring for my brother.  I hope that things will settle down, and I will be able to get decent sleep again eventually... but that is far from certain.  So as I said before, I don't know how things are going to go for a while here, and I may not have the chance to answer things at all for stretches of time, like recently.  As Gary said, anyone with long-standing knowledge of Inigo who can check in and answer questions should please try to do so more often."

I have a problem with Inigo's quest about getting his summon from Langley. I talked to him and never got the spell. This would be fine but the quest isn't complete and Inigo won't follow me. Even if I force his book in my inventory and use it he still won't follow me. I tried force completing the quest but that didn't work. Setstage also diddnt work. Does anyone have an idea to fix this?

Yeah, the way the quest is built, various things turn on and off with the lines said at each stage, not with the stages being met, so forcing the quest stages really won't work.  Several questions:

Have you tried going back to a save a bit before that, and going forward again?  If it was a game glitch that messed something up, that will usually fix it.  (Try this first, please, as it is the easiest solution.)

Are you using any of those mods that make it so that you don't learn spells immediately from spell books?  Or that changes the magic system away from spell books?  Those can really mess up Inigo's quest.  Depending on the mod, some of them have a way to exclude the contents of a given mod, just because of problems like this.

Are you using any terrain mods that might be preventing Langley from starting to walk down the stairs?  If so, using the console to move him a bit further down the stairs might get things moving again.

At exactly what point do things fail?  You said you speak to him, does he agree to give you the spell, but then it does not show up in your inventory?  Or does he not agree to give it to you?

You didn't let any follower control mods grab Inigo, right?

Try going back to an earlier save if you possibly can first, as that is the most likely solution, but if that doesn't work, go down the list, and answer the questions/rule things out.

I can't go back to a save before unless I want to drop back to level 11 (I'm level 26 now). I didn't know I was supposed to hard save often with Skyrim. I do have magic mods, but I can still learn magic from books. I also don't have any terrain mods. I don't fully remember what was said, but I believe it was after I said I'm closer to Inigo than he is.
I will note I am using a modpack from Wabbajack. I did ask in their discord and used the search function to see if anyone else had my issue, but no help. The mod is an essentials plus a little more modpack, so I don't think they altered Inigo.

Oh dear, on several fronts...  Yeah, Skyrim has a lot of glitches caused by the game itself, where the only solution is to go back to a save from before the glitch happened, and that only gets more complicated with mods added in.  I can end up with literally hundreds of hard saves (that I actually hold on to longer term) in a playthrough, mostly before or after critical events, or adding any new mods, but I will be constantly rotating through a batch of 'current' saves, so that if something happens, I have lots of points to go back to, without losing too much progress, as well as a few points further back, in case I didn't notice a problem until it had been around a while.  It would be highly unusual to manage a full run of Skyrim without having to revert to an earlier save due to a glitch at some point.  Usually quite a few times, if it is a full playthrough.

The other 'oh dear' is Wabbajack modlists.  See next to last sticky post on the subject above.  Some include Inigo, many do not.  Of the ones that include Inigo, most are fine, but some do alter him significantly, in ways that we can't fix or troubleshoot, as we have no idea what their intensions were, or what they changed.  Wabbajack lists should be supported by the list creator.  If you can't get any help or support from the creator on a problem, that is a bad sign.  If your modlist did NOT include Inigo, and you added him separately, then there shouldn't be anything in the list specifically changing Inigo, so we can troubleshoot as normal.  If your Inigo did come with the modlist though, it might have changed him, we can't know.  Which makes it hard to tell whether this problem is due to that, or due to a basic Skyrim glitch at the wrong moment, or a mod conflict.  That is why mod authors often do not support modlists/collections, as it makes figuring out problems ten times harder, if not downright impossible.

You had said you tried using the console to force-complete the quest, or advance the stages of it, or give yourself the spellbook... When that didn't work, you went back to a save from before trying that, right?  Because if not, that likely broke other things beyond what was already not working.

Here, this is a video of someone doing the quest.  I set it to just after they gathered the eggs.  Perhaps this will help you figure out what point things broke at, though it remains to be seen whether it is something we could do much about, without a save to revert to.  If you haven't played the mod before, don't watch too far ahead, because spoilers.

after watching the video I did stop after I said Inigo and I know each other well. and yes I did make sure to save before using any commands. that's why I saved last time due to another follower disappearing and having to use console cmds to get them back. I don't think the modpack author did anything to alter Inigo as they said they simply only added popular followers. the server also has around 6k users so someone would have probably had my problem if it was due to a mod conflict or the owner changing anything. but thank you this is my first time playing Skyrim so ill definitely make sure to hard save more on my other playthroughs

iirc, someone is actually making a tabaxi mod for BG3! There was some preview pictures of their progress on the Baldur's Gate 3 subreddit a month ago I think. And with BG3 modding tools coming soon, who knows, it might even be possible to make an Inigo-esque hireling/mercenary. One can only hope lol

I think I have found a bug or possible incompatibility?
while Inigo was riding frost, I fast traveled to markarth cuz yk. Why not

anyway upon losing our horses in the city, like it happens, inigo started floating. First I didn’t notice, but upon entering the abandoned house, Inigo was slowly rising to the ceiling, his limbs slowly bugging out more. Leaving didn’t help either, he just floated through the wall.

Possibly an incompatibility because I’m using convenient horses, which may alter frosts AI, maybe affecting Inigo, cause he currently owns him?

Nah, that is an old vanilla bug and goes for any follower, not just Inigo.  Essentially, if you enter an interior (or just non-riding, like a city) world space while your follower is riding (or swimming), they can get stuck in that animation, usually floating and helicopter-feet for riding, and swimming through the air or ground for swimming.  If you have a save from just before entering the city, just wait for Inigo to catch up and dismount before entering (or dismount before fast travel), and all should be back to normal.  If not, you can try to break him out of it by asking him to do various animations, like sitting in a chair, mining, etc.  You can also try drawing and sheathing your weapon, crouching and standing, etc., but the longer animations seem to work better to break followers out of this.  The game can do this to a vanilla follower without any mods.  It seems to be an unfixable 'feature' of the game engine.  So yeah, just make sure your follower has dismounted before entering a no-riding world space or interior to avoid it.

If you mean multiple other followers used alongside Inigo, that is fine, he even has interactions with some vanilla, and some custom followers, and you can use quite a few custom followers, and one vanilla follower all at once without problems (other than getting through doorways).  BUT, if you mean a multi-follower/follower control mod, you should never use those on Inigo, as it will break his brain.  (See big red warnings on front page and in sticky above.)  There are a couple of them that you can use alongside Inigo, as long as you are very careful to never let them touch him, and never use any option from them on him.  One of them (I think it is Nether's Follower Framework?  I am not 100% sure.) has the option to make a token to give to Inigo (or any other NPC you want excluded) that will keep the mod from seeing Inigo.

So, I already had a couple of playthroughs with Inigo. But now, after Langley gives you a spell and we discuss if he is trustworthy or not, Inigo comments about our shared past, but the dialogue after that doesn't appear. The one where if we deny our shared past and presses on, he goes 'Can we please talk about that at a later time'

This is normal. Inigo isn't immediately ready to acknowledge this truth, and the player character can't force him. You have to wait some time and go on adventuring, during which (I believe upon exiting combat) Inigo will say something to the effect of "I am going to miss this." Once he's said this line, you can ask about your past again and he suggests talking somewhere safe. Sitting in an inn or player home or whatever, both player character and Inigo relaxing, you can begin the dialogue where Inigo does acknowledge the truth of the matter and proceed with his and your relationship.
